Bronny James

Recommended Posts

The LA Lakers drafted Bronny James with their second round pick in the NBA draft. Not bad for a guy who was not even the best player on his high school team. Here were his stats at Sierra Canyon:

He averaged 8.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.9 steals per game in 29 games in his junior season. In his final season of high school basketball, Bronny broke out, averaging 14.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.8 steals per game.

But that is high school. Let's examine if he was a late bloomer in college:

James played in 25 games, making six starts in his one season at USC, averaging 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. James also had 53 assists which ranked fourth among the 2023-24 Trojans and had 19 steals which ranked fifth on the team.

As a Laker fan, I am extremely excited about the possibilities of this father/son duo. Maybe he'll even get some minutes in the G-League. What a waste of a pandering pick to keep Lebron. Discuss maturely.....

If it weren't for Lebron, he wouldn't even get the chance of playing overseas. He literally wasn't even the best player on his high school team.

Maybe they need a really good parking lot attendant or a guy who knows how the pretzel machine works.

Would have drafted him with a #2 and made the Lakers give up a future #1 for him.  You know LeBrick would have made his GM do it.

Does not matter  how bad he is.  LeBron just wants a year with him.

Also, a Lakers fan. Could have drafted Trey Alexander a Junior from Creighton who's a guard who has a nice scoring game.

2023-24 statistics

35 games, 17.6 points per game, 5.7 rebounds per game, 4.7 assists per game.

I thought the same thing. The team drafting 54 should of called and asked LA "how bad do want Bronny?".

But yes, if we're talking basketball, it's the worst draft pick in the history of the NBA. The Kid wouldn't of even received a camp invite if his last name wasn't James. He's terrible.

Nitwit was making more in NIL money (5.7 million) as a freshman at USC, then he will in the NBA (1.2 million)

Thanks Dad.

already discussed in the NBA thread

but I will chime in here and say that what bothered me the most was no other team having the balls to pick Bronny and ruin James orchestrated plan.

I don't blame the Lakers for picking Bronny. James runs the team and the biggest stars run the league. It shouldn't be any surprise. Giannis' brother is on a roster. Rick Brunson works for the Knicks. It's what the NBA is.

Of course is he wasnt Lebrons son, he never gets drafted. But there are examples of players no one thought would have solid NBA careers having just that and coming from the second round. Its not impossible Bronny improves, just not likely and I'm sure there were better dart throws out there.

Couldn't.  They were told if they drafted him, he would play overseas.

Bluff.  LeBron wants to play with him in the NBA.  LeBron doesn't have a lot of years left.  The Lakers didn't have the leverage there.

I understand, and this probably partially played into why no team did it. Even without the threat of playing overseas.

But the team that drafts him does have his rights for a year, no? Someone like the Pacers who I think had pick 50 and had already made 2 selections could have picked Bronny and tried to orchestrate a trade for Lebron.  Lebron is not winning anyone a title as a #1 option but as a #3, he'd make a team like the Pacers into instant title contenders.

Or, again, you still own Bronny for a year. See what LA will give you to make Lebron happy. I'm sure he wants to play with Bronny THIS year

Any idea why the NBA dropped down to 2 rounds? At this point they should have 1 round

Kind of a rat's ass...so Nepo boy gets parked at the end of the bench just like 29 other guys who in the NBA who are virtually worthless. Why care?

I don't care that the Bucks have 2.1 million dollar Giannis Tax in his older brother.

Now, I watch NCAA basketball, but not the NBA.  From an investment standpoint, taking Bronny at #54 would seem like a good investment.  If LeDouche really wanted to play with his kid, he'd get the Lakers to trade their #2 next year for him.  Odds are, that'll be 10 to 20 picks better than this year's.  Seeing who the Celtics picked at #54 (Watson from Gonzaga), I'm 99.9999999999% sure, he goes undrafted and the Celtics... if they really wanted him, can pick him up as an undrafted free agent.

A deal like that for Bronny is a lot more realistic than trading for LeBron, is my guess.

Worst case scenario for the Celtics is that they pay a couple extra dollars to ensure they get Watson and the Lakers don't do the deal.  Doesn't sound that bad of a risk.

exactly.  trading FOR Lebron is obviously the less realistic option but at the very least I have to assume the Lakers would pay up to get Bronny over to LA for THIS year rather than see him playing overseas.

Yup... and who knows, the Lakers may see this as an opportunity to get rid of LeBron and not have to worry about any PR issues dealing with an extension.  So your line of thinking on that front isn't that outlandish.  I guess the only issue would be the cap.  Those I don't really know much of, but I do know that when it comes to sports, teams always manage to make the money work if it's something they really want.

NBA is weird.  The Lakers already sell seats.  Why are they hell bent on keeping Lebron happy?  Lebron is at the end of his career and fights for 10th seeds.

What exactly is the selling point?  Oh come on kids!  Lebrons son is going to be sitting near thr bench in jeans, this is going yo br so much fun!  Are the Lakers really going to dress Bronny because Lebron wants them to?  Give him minutes just brcause Lebron wants it?

So thr Lakers clearly arent interested in winning or trying to win?

Interesting.  We watched most of the game and I was looking for him, but didn't see him.

Suns 2nd round pick Oso Ighodaro had 12/4/5 on 6 for 8 shooting in 26 minutes.  He's from here and we know his mom pretty well (she taught our kids in elementary school).  My wife is already a hooge Suns fan; now every game, even preseason, is must-watch TV in our house.
