Took me more than 30 minutes just to fill out my ballot.  Federal, state, local races, judicial retention, a dozen or more ballot questions and initiatives.

Meh, I plan all that out before I go. Easy peasy.

Check check check check check check check bye....

Why can’t we just vote online?  It’s 2024.  Put Elon in charge if he wants and do it through X or something

No. Don't you know that every voting center is surrounded by tsunamis ready to wash over and kill you? Tornados too. And lava. Lot's of lava oozing all over the 10 hour long line of people waiting and suffering there. And if you live on a mountain, and the snow is 40 feet deep on slopes that are at a 45 degree angle, you have to drive through it all for 300 miles to get to the voting center in the first place.

It's hard to vote unless you get ballots in the mail to be able to mail out from the comfort of you own home. The only hard part about that is figuring out how many of the ballots you receive are you going to send in. And under whose name are you sending it for.

The only mail in ballots should be absentee ballots. And those should be reserved for deployed military and possibly citizens working out of the country long term.

Everyone else should vote in person, on election day, with I.D.

"Problem" solved.

I have no issue with any person applying for a mail-in ballot.  You apply, you fill it out, you mail it in.  I do not approve of official ballots being arbitrarily mailed out to everyone, to be filled out.

The FBI somehow can't figure out what's on Hunter Biden's laptop, but oh boy, our government can surely handle the security of online voting.  Oh wait, who's in charge again and is handling it all?

That is a ridiculous ruling. It should be sufficient that it was postmarked by election day.

How long should the election be put on hold waiting for the stragglers lost in the shuffle?  #Every vote counts

On our mail in ballots you have to fill in that damn circle completely with a black or blue pen.  It is not as fast as "checking" a box.

Let’s try this again. Someone explain why this shouldn’t be the way everyone in the US votes.

Register for a mail in ballot (we can bicker about what this process is but for the sake of forwarding the discussion let’s just say it is whatever your state currently requires to vote in person), they mail you a ballot by 3 weeks before Election Day, you also receive a voting packet explaining the various initiatives, candidates, etc., you fill out at your discretion, you sign and tear off a tracking code unique to your ballot, you return by an agreed upon date that is clearly marked on the ballot (we can just agree this is by Election Day), you can double check your ballot was received a few days later.

Why wouldn’t people want this system?

I live in Oregon and absolutely hate mail in ballots.  It is easier for fraud and I just don't trust it after seeing videos of a same woman unloading hundreds of ballots at a drop box in 2020.  Everyone should be going in person.

Because that would be racist.  The Democrats said that requiring ID's to vote is racist because black people don't have them.  They also think black people are too poor to have the internet.  Just ask Joe Biden, he'll tell you.  Black people are poor (even though they're just as smart as white people... apparently).  He'll also tell you that Obama is the first intelligent and well spoken black man.  So, if you vote online, you'd need the internet and an ID to verify you are who you say you are.  This is probably why Biden wrote the Crime Bill to put black people in prison for smoking pot.  All that means is that black people can't vote, and thus, it's racist.

I was making fun of liberals.

I suggested online before... not here, but to someone who's now running for county commissioner (in my county).  He didn't like it.  He said that takes away the anonymity to voting.  I mean, he is right.

Don't forget they also think black people are incredibly dumb and stupid too.  They don't even know how to get an ID or how to use the internet.  They need their white liberal saviors.

No way.

Register to receive a ballot. They mail it to you a couple weeks before. You fill it out sign it and tear off a tracking code. You drop it in ballot box or mail. You double check it was received a couple days later with tracking code.

This is how all states should do this.

If people want to go to the community center and wait an hour knock yourself out.

In AZ, our absentee ballots are tracked automatically.  I get both a text and email notifying me when my ballot is mailed to me, when they receive mine back, and when it is counted.  I don't need to proactively track anything.

New this year is that they've had some polling places open early.  I chose to drop mine off at such a place instead of mail it in.  That was earlier this week, and I was surprised by the steady stream of people voting.

I couldn't imaging voting in person this time around.  Our ballot was two large sheets of paper, front and back.  In addition to all of the federal, state, county, and city positional elections, we had over 10 state constitutional amendments, another 10 initiatives from the state/county/city, a bunch of judges... if you went into the booth without having researched it, you would be there for an hour or more.

On a side note, my basic strategy was to vote "no" on constitutional amendments unless the amendment makes it harder to propose an amendment; those I voted "yes" for.  I don't understand AZ's obsession with amendments.  We have legislatures whose job it is to make laws.

Same experience in my area in terms of what’s on the ballot. A handful of tax related issues. A bunch of local elections. Takes awhile to get through even if you are prepared. I definitely appreciate being able to do this at home and it is miles better than doing this in person.

We did have a change this year. The tearaway tracking thing is gone and you can register for texts or you go online to check status.

The single amendments up here IIRC were started up from a libertarian type guy who got them on the ballots. Don’t mind them per se but they are often written oddly.

Good luck with your choices. Election Tuesday will be crazy, entertaining, etc…but hopefully not too crazy.

Same in CA.  I get my bar coded ballot with a return label.  Fill it out at home.  Mail it.  I get a text when the USPS picks it. When it is delivered. And when it is counted.  I got all three, so I'm done.   Better than having to show up to my old Elementary School Library next Tuesday and waiting in line.

The last time i voted in person, it was like 5pm, after work (you know people have jobs) the line was 100 deep. There was only 6 "booths" to vote in and Helen, who was checking names/addresses and handing out ballots, who was using her wooden 12 inch ruler to cross out names of people who she gave ballots to wasn't the fastest volunteer. (Bless her for trying)  but there was a process to make sure people voting were registered and nobody was showing up to vote twice.  Helen was on it. (Slowly)

Helen was a machine. (slow slow slow but a Machine)  I'm sure she is still there.  My Mom and Dad still vote in person at that same Elementary School Library.  I'll ask them!😂  (they're Retired, so they go early with no lines)

I haven't voted in person since 2016, but the previous 3 elections I scheduled it so that I would go as soon as the polls opened 7AM. Except for 2012, there were at least 50 people waiting when I got there.

The people who say "voting on Election Day is so easy and the votes need to be counted same day!" Must live in BF Nebraska.   My experience is the opposite.  When it's a Tuesday and 3 senior citizens are handling the machines at 5pm when people get off work (god bless them for volunteering) like the city I live in has over 230K people and 12 voting stations.  Cut that in half for kids.  That's still 9,500 potential voters per station.   Imagine the logistics of even bigger cities...?

Heck, when I was 18, the town I lived in was 3 square miles (7 really, but 4 were in the Pinelands and people couldn't build), that had 2k registered voters and had FOUR polling locations.  If the little town I lived in could have 1 polling location per 500 eligible voters, I'd think a larger city would be able to find like 50.

Jersey City is one of the most densely populated cities in the country, and they have about 160k registered voters and they have 36 locations.  Maybe if your state was smarter and better run, they'd have more polling stations.  Seems like common sense to think that the bigger cities would have much easier access to polling locations based on the amount of government buildings they would have.

Elderly?  LOL, where do you live?  Everyone I see at every polling location ranges between 30 and mid 50's.  I lived up in Hoboken for 3 years... I never saw a person at a polling location that was in their 60's.  Like I said, maybe you need to have better people in charge.

I live in CA.  The average age of poll worker's around here I would guess is 55.  Only because there is one 25 year old helper bringing down the average.  It's almost like, we live a big country with different experiences. CRAZY!   Also, Hoboken. What a destination for great Government.

Agreed.  I just thought it was interesting that you thought that only backwoods, nowhere places, had easy voting.  NJ is a Democrat cesspool up north, and those elections run smoothly.  Same with cities that are more conservative in South Jersey.  I just don't understand why a state like CA would have a town with 250k people (probably 150k register voters), would only have 12 polling locations.  It's almost like they want to make it inconvenient to vote on purpose.  Wonder why they'd want that? 🤔

Fair enough.  Imagine how all the residents here ask those questions as well!  That's why so many of us Vote By Mail.  My vote has already been logged and counted and there is a website I can confirm that on.  You would think if Elon wanted to get into Politics so bad, (without bad intentions) he would invent a system where verified and registered citizen voters could vote on "V" an app he would create in conjunction with the Government and make it easier for anyone, no matter who they we're voting for..

Lucky you.  One I voted for is a change in the requirements to get an initiative on the ballot.  Currently it is 15% of the population statewide needs to sign a petition for a constitutional amendment (less for other initiatives).  The proposed change would be 15% from each county, or maybe legislative district.  With the current method, people just focus on Phoenix, a little bit Tucson, because that's where the population density is.  But that kinda leaves the rest of the state without a voice.  Also, the change will make it harder because they'll have to get 15% of, I dunno, the Navajo nation to sign it.  :D

Also, I have officially voted!

I voted in person the other day.  Took me all of 20 minutes and was a very pleasant experience.

At this stage in our country’s history the most important overriding factor should be security and timely results.  And that’s best achieved by voting in person or through selective, reasonable absentee ballots for those who legitimately can’t get to the polls.

I had to vote for 4 school board council members.  I don't have kid's. I don't care to research.    I just picked the funnest names.  Voting can be dumb at times.   Turd Ferguson, yeah it's a funny name.

I've got a few neighbors with yards littered with signs, all liberal.  There are three candidates that show up as a group in all these yards.  I voted for... not them.  :D

Honestly, I've never heard anyone say they LOVE their school board. Liberal or Conservative.  But I'm also very against my tax dollars going to Private schools.  I don't have any kids. But I get a vote.  (Shrugs)
