What wildlife do you encounter?

Recommended Posts

Whether on hunting or fishing excursions, commuting or just occasionally in your backyard?

With the bald eagle display it reminded me that just a couple weeks ago just a mile or two from my house is a bean field and saw a bald eagle and a young eagle just out in the field probably having dinner. That was pretty cool.

I never get tired of seeing random bald eagles.  'Murica b1tches!

Aside from all the focking bunnies and squirrels in our backyard I've been lucky enough to see an occasional coyote, bobcat, and even a deer.  The deer was the biggest surprise.

As a trail runner; bald eagles, bobcats, and mountain lions mostly. A friend of mine has seen a bear but I haven't.  Oh and deer and wild turkeys. They are "endangered" around here, so there will be huge flocks of turkeys in neighborhoods.

Fishing in the swamp one morning with a twelve pack, I sawr an albino white alligator sitting on the bank. Have never seen one before or after.  About a six footer. Drank three beers watching it, and him alone and moved on.

I see deer just about every day of the year. Squirrels every day. During the summer we have a bunch of chipmunks. Eagles, hawks, turkeys, pheasants and all kinds of birds. We have two dogs, koi fish and a tank with a crawdad in it. Then there’s the unwanted skunks and groundhogs.

Thats just what I normally see on my property.

Tell me you're from Louisiana without telling me you're from Louisiana.

Sounds cool AF.

Even being in the suburbs here in Denver we get a lot of wildlife.  There are lots of pockets of open spaces and pseudo wilderness where they can live that are within the area.  Tend to see them a lot at night but even during the day you sometimes come across something cool.  I had a family of foxes living in my backyard one summer and a raccoon living under the deck.  A couple years ago had a bobcat walk down the walkway in the development and he stopped and stood for 5 minutes about 3 feet outside our front window.  A month ago saw a raccoon climbing all over my neighbor's house and roof.  That was funny.  Spring and summer rabbits are all over the place.  So different than growing up in the concrete jungle of Los Angeles.

My backyard game came got a pic of a coyote taking a pizz.

:first:

The cam also has gotten shots of deer, a bobcat and a flying squirrel.

That squirrel showed up every night for weeks, and I couldn't figure out what the fock it was.

Finally, I threw it up on social media, and someone immediately identified it as a flying squirrel.

I didn't even know we had those around here.

We've also got every kind of venomous snakes, including corral snakes. I've killed a half dozen copperheads and saw a king snake that must have been 5 or 6 feet long.

We've got a possum that comes up on the front porch and takes a whiz. We call him Pee Pee the Possum.

He was inside a box, and I reached in and gave him a butt scritch. He took off like a missile.

Haven't seen Pee Pee since then,

Did you happen to see Bullwinkle?

Kidding aside that is cool.  I have zero idea where flying squirrels typically inhabit.

Don't tend to see many snakes in my neighborhood aside from the occasional garter snake.

Saw a coyote a few weeks back while riding a bike home from a local taproom. I live in pretty heavily built up urban area and this was right behind a big grocery store so it was pretty odd. He didn’t seem to interested in me and went on looking for cats to eat.

We've already met up for plenty of the ghey secks - so I'm not stalking - but whereabouts was this?

Kudos to @cmh6476for this thankfully non-political thread.

I saw a bald eagle on my drive to work this morning.

I have squirrels that live here and I've fed them nuts before.

Rabbits are here too.

Saw a wild turkey in my yard one time when I was mowing; he was trapped by my fence in the back and the sides and as I got closer he flew away.

I've seen and filmed a hawk eating a small rodent on my deck railing.

I see deer occasionally but not on my property.

How far away was the mountain lion?  I would not want to mess with a cougar/puma/mountain lion.  :shocking:

Did you piss yourself a little?  If so please describe in detail and go slow.. Make it last.

Wildest things I see with any regularity in Philly are possums and raccoons. I did see a fox in Fairmount Park once. And free range junkies on the L train.

It was a good distance away, heading away from us, so it really didn't bother us.

The places that I run have them all over the place, a kid was killed by one last year. https://www.kcra.com/article/el-dorado-county-mountain-lion-attack-teen-survives/60289844

There are fresh kitty prints all over in some areas, there's a certain smell I also can't really describe.

I quit trail running up there shortly before the man was killed up there last year, just didn't feel comfy being out there.

In the Phinney Ridge hood of Seattle. There’s Carkeek Park a few miles from here where I have heard there are some coyotes in but that’s pretty far and a lot of houses and streets to go through!

I can only imagine how strong the puma pee stinks as we've had cats in the past.

I've also stayed at a Holiday Inn Express and have played Red Dead Redemption 2 so I know those bastards can appear out of nowhere and fock you up!

They are marking their territory by urinating on the area. Cat piss is worse than mine.

Maybe they wanted to talk sh1t to the animals in Woodland Park Zoo?  My daughter used to work at a pie shop in that area when she was in college.

I see deer and wild Turkey all the time around here, SE Mass, RI and the Cape. But a few weeks ago I was at the Cape with the boy, who now is 27, and four coyotes came walking across the front lawn like they owned it. We've heard them before but only saw one once at night.

There's also an owl who hangs out right by the house. He'll respond when you go "who, who" which is kinda cool, but never actually saw him.

Maryland. They’re turkey vultures to be more specific.

I fish out these little brown snakes that fall into the pool. They're super passive and almost more like worms than snakes. I just throw 'em in the yard and wish them the best.

I live on 2 acres in the country.

I kind of hope the hogs will show up so I can just blast them from my porch.

The woods behind my house have a creepiness to them. I feel like I'm being watched when I go out there.

😳

Young 4-point met me today in the middle of the road leading in to the farm standing in 4" of snow. I let the dogs out to chase him up the hill. They love that.

This spring is officially exterminate all ground hogs on the farm season. It's nice being able to shoot on the property.

I was contemplating this thread on a drive, and thinking through things I occasionally see.  Many of you seem to be at least neighboring some more rural communities, as I am.  Then I though I often hear coyotes but never really see any.

Then as I'm on my drive, where I was headed to a very small town about 15 minutes away from where I live to get takeout from a local diner, I actually see a fockin coyote making its way through the snow covered field.  I also saw a group of about 8 or 9 deer also in a field off in the distance on the same drive.  And that was all just yesterday.
