Hair Loss Thread

Recommended Posts

Hey, I've been using propecia for several years and I have not lost hair, but I also have not gained.

I also use Nioxin System 2.

I think I'd like to try 5% Minoxidil. Anyone know where I could get it at a decent price?

I don't have a membership @ Cosco, BJs or Sam's Club.

FYI

TIA

I use minoxidil and it works great. I’m fifty six and always want to look. My best.

Just throw on some Jorts and go with the Stone Cold Steve Austin look.

That's what I did. Bad knee's, so braces completed the look.

I am very much not 'metrosexual' but have always tried to maintain my hair. Had super thin hair and was always self conscious about it. Middle school and high school I used a lot of thickening shampoos and more or less just changed my diet to add more veggies and proteins. I never had thick hair or good hair but it definitely improved. My hair has more or less remained the same with phases of thinning and then phases of seemingly thickening again. I don't so much have hair loss or hair falling out as much as just thin hair strands in general. But I have also diligently paid attention to my hair through the years.

I've used finasteride. As recently as early 2023. I can say that when I got a prescription for it that time, my pharmacy said my insurance did not cover it because it was considered cosmetic. So I ended up going through Keeps instead and it was much cheaper. a 3 month supply was less than $100  (the pharmacy price was like $80 for a month) and the Keeps dosage was higher so I could cut the pills and it was a 6 month supply.  Just a tip if you want to save money on propecia. I don't even use it anymore. I've used rogaine foam but not consistently.

I've always believed a lot of things are best tackled internally and naturally. So I tend to go the supplement route. I use collagen pills, biotin, saw palmetto. And I still use thickening shampoos. American Crew makes a good one. And I try to rotate between 3-4.

And when eggs become affordable again, an egg wash is great for your hair. But again, more so for thickening not regrowing.

No bother. Off using my memory, that one is a Viofairly Hair Growth Serum. Don’t know if i spelled it right, but it really works, and fast, and it’s 5% minoxidil/biotin. It’s a jell and you just rub it on your cranium and let it absorb. It comes in a medium size black and gold bottle.

56 and my hair is turning silver grey and I started growing a half goatee that is grey/silver. If I was young, I’d finger me a lot. 🥕🥕😛

I had a good beard going last year and went on a 2 week vacation/bender featuring dudes only, many rock concerts, camping and off-roading. To commemorate the occasion, I shaved my beard in a non-traditional manner (i.e. silly) for yuks. Once I got home, I shaved my face clean to go back to work. Life went on like normal.

Now I am growing the beard out again, and the areas on my chin only (not upper lip/mustache) that I didn't shave for my vaca have come back completely white. It was salt and pepper before. It was a little startling at first, but I have come to accept that I look like I have a baby skunk on my chin. At least it's symmetrical, and the ladies love being tickled by it.

I have a friend that used propecia for 5 years and his balls shrunk in half and he produces almost no semen.  Propecia blocks your testosterone which your frank and beans need to survive.  If you think hair is more important than your nuts and pen1s than go ahead and take propecia.

While at 49 I have, 90+ percent of my hair and only my beard is graying, I find the responses to this thread unsatisfactory.  Let us not "look at me" but rather "look at us".  I'll be 50 later this year, Is there really some shampoo or something that prevents hair loss?  I always try to be proactive rather than reactive.  This could be a great thread.

Did your nuts and peepee shrink due to propecia blocking the testosterone production in your body?  How is your load?  Did it decrease in volume?

My friend swears he shrunk in half.

If you’re going to take pills, supplements, etc… the rest of your life wouldn’t it make more financial sense to just get a transplant?

Shoot, I wish I’d go bald.  I have a full head of hair and no sign of that changing.  I go with a very low cut and get it done regularly just so that I have little to maintain.

What I would really like to talk about is graying.  The hair on the scalp has only gone a little but the mtherfcking beard is PURE WHITE.  Not gray…white.

Seems legit, I'm just wary of these things.  Some magic pill, it all feels more snake oil than anything.

Again, I have 90% of my hair but I can tell its not the same as it was 20 years ago and its only a matter of time after 50.  Part of me is like just embrace it and be "au naturel".  Another part of me is like fock that its 2025, mofo's in Hollywood would be bald and gray but there are advances out there too.  :dunno:

I agree with you if the route someone is taking is propecia/finasteride (script drug) and rogaine/minoxidil (otc but harsh chemical drug). If you’re balding and feel the need to take this stuff daily maybe it would make financial sense to go the transplant route or at least try PRP treatment.
vitamins and supplements have full body benefits and are inexpensive so it depends on a persons situation.

I’ve always shied away from these things. Nioxin, Nutrafol because they are marketed specifically for hair loss and cost a premium, which makes me think snake oil.
I also have 90% of my hair and I’ll stick to regular healthy supplements

I shaved my head for charity one time. It was NOT a good look for me.

I did it twice right after Katrina and I love my hair. Crazy thing was, it came back thicker. I looked like a serial killer and hated it. Fin McCools Irish bar has a hair drive for those with cancer going through chemotherapy. It’s a great cause and they give out free shots of Jameson and lots of really hot and healthy wemens. 😁🥕🥃

Holy shite there's a hair loss ad banner on the bottom of my screen. I am not cut out for the modern world.

Now it switched to an ad for a panasonic beard trimmer. Fock you Panasonic, I already have a Norelco!
