Florida's First Congressional Seat

Recommended Posts

There's a focking five alarm fire going on down here.

This is a heavily Republican district and should be a slam dunk for the GOP. Unfortunately, the GOP candidate is Jimmy Patronis, the biggest focking stiff I've ever seen "run for office". The dude doesn't even live in the district and he's put in zero effort to try to win it. The dude is totally AWOL. Non-existent. I put "run for office" in quotes because his name is on the ballot but there is no actual running.

What a focking loser.

So, you know the deal with Matt Gaetz. Anyway, Trump says, "I endorse this a$$hole from somewhere else, who cares, Jimmy Petronis for the open seat." Well, Petronis declares but then he stopped trying. That is as much as he's done. He's treating Trump's Congressional district endorsement like a gift-wrapped ugly sweater he doesn't want to wear. He didn't even show up to the Republican debate. he won the primary by default because Trump endorsed him an all the other candidates split the trying hard vote.

I haven't seen nor hear or see any Petronis ads in the mail or radio. Who I HAVE heard from and who is seriously putting time, effort, and money into running is the Democrat, Gay Voldemort. Everything I know about Jimmy Petronis, I learned from Gay Voldemort and everything I know about Gay Voldemort I learned from Gay Voldemort. She's running a totally centrist campaign and never ever, mentions her toxic party affiliation. The election is April 1st and the only reason I know that is because the Voldemort campaign told me.

The best candidate here, and the one who deserves to win, is the Democrat and it's not close.

I'm voting for this bum Petronis, but I have never been this dejected to vote for somebody before. The only reason I'm voting for such an unethused and uninspiring a$$hole is the R after his name. If he bothers to vote at all, it'll be for Trump's agenda. Meanwhile, if Voldemort goes to Congress, she'll get the same Borg implants that every other Democrat has.

Petronis is singularly the worst candidate I've ever seen 'run' for office in my life. If he wins this race election, and he should because our district is ruby red, he'll replace Kamala Harris and Jumanji Jackson as the poster child for "didn't earn it".

Volty, finally seeing what the modern GOP has become, still going to vote for them though.  That'll show em.

If the district is 'ruby red", it won't matter. Just like blue districts. The constituency will vote for the party regardless.

This turnip wouldn't stand a chance in a purple district. Which is why he's running where he's running.

Hopefully he doesn't turn out to be completely worthless.

This is the two minute news clip from the Republican debate Petronis didn't bother to attend. Even in his statement on the phone, when Petronis called in, the reason he's running is "because the president asked him to and that's not something you say no to". What a useless focktard. Any one of those other eight would be better.

You should vote for the best candidate, regardless of party.  If it happens to be a Democrat, you have to suck it up and vote for that person.

Never happen.  Tlaib moved to her district because John Conyers ran unopposed forever. Any Dem that wins has a lifetime pass.

Maybe under normal circumstances I'd consider it.  Once somebody is an incumbent, they're in there forever, and I don't want to be saddled with having Jimmy Petronis as my Congressman for as long as he wants to stay. Give the seat to the Dem this time to keep Petronis out, and go with a GOP candidate that actually wants to serve next time.

No. I can't do that. Mike Johnson is already dealing with a miniscule majority. The last thing he or Trump needs is another Democrat to fock things up.  But yeah, if the GOP had a safe 20 seat majority, I would not vote for Petronis. Gimme the Democrat and we'll try again in two years when a GOP candidate I actually want to vote for arrives.

Trump saddled us with this guy and I'm not happy about it.

Wrong. A vote for any Democrat is a vote for their wacko national agenda. I don't care how normal they pretend to be. Because it is ALL pretend. Once they get to DC they vote lock step with the national party.

I will literally vote for a rock before I vote for a Democrat.

Not anymore. The lines are drawn. Besides, since the advent of Trump I have yet to see a democrat that pushes against the liberal agenda. And neither have you.

This'll test that.

There is no reason for any swing voter to go for Petronis. He's not making a case for us, let alone them. I listen to classic rock radio in the car on the commute to and from work.... not a single Petronis ad, yet Voldemort is all over it. I'm a registered Republican, this is an unusual April election due to a vacancy with one thing on the ballot, so the turnout is going to be low. A competently run campaign like the one Voldemort is running should be able to get its people out. Petronis or the party or somebody should be be contacting me encouraging me to vote. Nothing.

This election is going to be a lot closer than it should be and it would not surprise me in the Dems steal this seat for this term of Congress.

I've seen as much of Jimmy Petronis as I have of Jimmy Hoffa. The dude's a danger of blowing this.

That is exactly what I'm doing and for these exact reasons.

I'm voting for the parrot in the Monty Python skit.

I hate this guy. The House is in a razor thin majority. His country needs him, his president needs him, the House speaker needs him. The people who live here could use somebody with a pulse for constituent services.

And this dude... he's AWOL. He doesn't focking care. He's a lump.

I don't have the money and besides that, I've said enough here over the years to sink any campaign. its not like there isn't a lack of enthusiasm in the district. We had ten other people run in the primary. https://ballotpedia.org/Florida's_1st_Congressional_District_special_election,_2025 You can see them in the debate video I posted earlier where Petronas literally phoned it in. Petronas stood out because he had Trump's endorsement and that was all he needed for the primary. None of the others could separate themselves from the pack to take him on. Now we're riding this dead horse. Hopefully Trump's endorsement is all he needs for the general election too.

His campaign website has a picture of himself with Trump, a biography about himself and his family, a banner of endorsements, and a place to donate. https://joinjimmy.com/ If you go looking his priorities or his take on the pressing issues of the day, you won't find any.

You mean becoming Winners?  I mean, they did take the House, the Senate, the POTUS and the SCOTUS.

You must have them confused with the Democrat Party.  They're the ones mocking 13 year old cancer patients and letting degenerate males into female spaces.

You know, in a special election, you're only going to get 10% turnout or so. If the Dems are as organized and motivated (and they are) while the Republican candidate is a focking turd who doesn't try, the Dems can win. This feels like a slow motion disaster. Sleepwalking and taking sh*t for granted is not a viable strategy. I really think the Dems have a good shot at stealing this seat. They must think so too because they are running a great and well funded campaign.

And it'll be all Trump's fault. Not for DOGE or MAGA ... but for sticking his nose in and getting this bum Jimmy Petronas to run. He sucked all the oxygen out of the GOP nomination by endorsing a lump. If he didn't endorse anyone, this would be a layup because left to our own, we would have found someone solid and with a pulse. And I'd be hearing that person on local talk radio, ads on the rock stations next to Voldemort ads, a campaign flyer or two in the mail and a phone call targeting registered Republicans reminding me/us to vote April 1st.

Don't fret, Volty. Since your district vote will occur before the continuing resolution budget vote, your pet Republican is probably safe. It'll be after that vote when the shlt truly hits the fan.

This is an R+19 district that Petronas is either going to squeak by in or lose outright.

Either way, the narrative tea leaves that the MSM will latch on to is that "Trump is losing steam, even in the reddest district in Florida." Which will be bullsh*t. The real narrative revolves around the Republicans nominated a candidate that just lays there on the ground, immobile, like Rescuci-Annie the CPR dummy that first responders practice on.

One week later and nothing has changed.

No candidate in the history of the republic deserves to lose a race as much as Jimmy Petronas does. This dude is pining for the fjords.

If this stiff makes it to Washington, the House Majority leader and House Majority Whip are going to have to give him the Weekend at Bernie's treatment whenever a vote comes up.

Someone put a new suit on him every day, some dark sunglasses, touch up his makeup, drown him in Febreze, prop him up in the back corner, and give his voting device to Tom Emmer.

Democrats raise millions for Florida special elections in Trump territory (nbcnews.com)

I'm telling you, unlike the Republicans, the Democrats are actually taking this special election seriously. Jimmy Petronas is a focking lump, the worst candidate, by far, I have ever seen running in my lifetime. Zero effort. Early voting starts Monday and there has been no detectable traces of life from this campaign. The dude richly deserves to lose the election and the GOP may well get pantsed here. This invisible loser is giving away the election. Its madness.

Meanwhile, Dems can be proud of the effort Gay Voldemort is putting in, who is essentially running unopposed.

I'm voting for the houseplant with the 'R' next to his name and it'll be the most shameful ballot I'll have cast in my lifetime. Having this idiot thrust on us and having our votes taken for granted sucks. I'm pissed off with Trump for sticking us with this empty suit.

Welcome to my last 3 election cycles. Unwilling to vote for anyone associated with Trump, but my only alternatives being Hillary, Joe, and Kamala. It doesn't get easier, it just pisses me off more.

I honestly think Democrats will win elections in many surprising places next year, so long as they stick to a simple message:

1. We’re against tariffs.
2. We will protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

That’s it. That’s the entire message. Stick to it they will win big.

This is less an election than a Social Science experiment and feels exactly like the third quarter of the Lions / Redskins game felt. I'm pretty much resigned to the idea that Gay Voldemort is going to win. One of my solid Republican colleagues at work is voting for he and none of us have any enthusiasm for Petronas. The real shock would be Petronas actually winning.

Voldemort is everywhere and Petronas is invisible. And congrats to her if she pulls it off. She totally deserves it.

I mean, I did my part for Petronas during early voting on Monday but in living here, I'm getting a front row seat to the sh*ttiest candidate ever running, running the worst campaign in US electoral politics history.

Rooting for Jimmy Petronas to represent you in Congress is like rooting for Matt Millen to run your football team.

They can't cheat but they can run superior candidates. Gay Voldemort is all over the airwaves and ads that pop up on my computer telling me about what she supports, stuff like a local veterans hospital 'taking on the insurance industry,' while also framing ideas Jimmy Petronas supports and pointing out, correctly, that he doesn't even live here.

Meanwhile Petronas, isn't telling jack sh*t about himself nor Gay Voldemort. What you can do is take the initiative yourself to look him up, and if you do, you can find pictures of him standing next to Donald Trump.

I think I talked my colleague out of voting for Voldemort. He was much more positive on Patronas today. Voldemort is just going to vote like every other Democrat if she gets there. Additionally, I heard my first Petronas ad today, mixed in among the standard fare of another half dozen Voldemort ones.

Then I saw this story, apparently in Florida's 5th district, Republicans pooped out a candidate just as pathetic as Petronas who sounds like he's getting whooped just as badly over there.  Republicans Grow Anxious About Florida Special Election (msn.com)

F*cking TweedleeDee and TweedleeDum are running under the GOP banner out this way.
