The US had a long history of using tariffs prior to the great depression. Smoot-Hawley was only a minor tweek to our tarrif policy and is absurd to suggest it caused the great depression⁰. The impact of tarrifs will be minor and many of the negative impacts will be offset by positive impacts like the relocation of production to the US. The ultimate goal is to negotiate fairer tariffs so we can compete on a level playing field. There are no wings to the Democratic Party. It is all full on board with big government deep state authoritarianism. Gavin Newsome is trying to put on a moderate face, but everyone knows what he stands for and what he has done to California.
