On the fence, seems like a lot to give up draft capital wise although having Hunter and BTJ as a one two punch at WR could be fun ot watch.

I just hope they let him excell at one (WR or CB) first before they try the whole both sides of the ball thing

It’s got to be CB, right? You don’t trade a 1st to move up and draft a guy who isn’t even the best WR in his class.

You don't think he was the best WR in the class?  Most of the scouts I read would disagree with that.

Regardless, I'm the coach, I'm using him both ways, and base where he spends plays the most based on the weekly matchup.  Going against a top-flight WR, he's playing more DB---against a weak secondary, more snaps at WR.

Um, he is by far the best WR in this draft.

No, he will start at WR this year as his primary position and may at some point be used as a CB in special packages/situations.

Not according to the predraft coverage I saw. At least, not a wideout prospect worthy of the #2 overall pick.

I’m doubting a guy who weighs in the 180s is going to be able to play more than a handful of snaps on the opposite side of the ball.

Weird. The Athletic pod had that entirely backwards, or else I’m misremembering. Thanks.

What part backwards?

How the Jags will use him to start?

the Jaguars’ staff—led by new head coach Liam Coen—is leaning toward easing Hunter into the NFL spotlight by first deploying him on offense. “They want to start him off on offense and sprinkle him into defense,”

The part about him being an elite WR prospect who can play some CB. At least one Athletic football pod I listened to had the exact opposite take. I’m not doubting you, just asking.

The usual suspects will find some way to work that into the discussion as they always seem to do.

He won both the Bednarik Award and the Biletnikoff Award so he's top shelf at both.

Jags think it will be best to use him prominatley at WR to start and some at CB, then as he is more comfortable in the O start using him more at CB.

As the roster stands now, he is needed much more at WR than at CB for the Jags

If I am the opposing coach i am running at him.  Let's see how he holds up in run support.  I am motioning t.e.'s in his direction, lets see how he holds up against behemoths.

Basically I play him at wide receiver and a few snaps on defense on third and longs.

Well, he could ask Deion how to be a professional DB and avoid all physical contact.  Deion could teach a master class in that.

If he's playing CB I'd imagine it will be in man to man with him and Campbell on the outside, as such TEs wont be his assignment, it will be the slot CB, a nickle S or a LB

I technically live in Phoenix, but it's an area south of South Mountain called Ahwatukee.  Go to Tempe and Scottsdale all the time, tho.

Yeah, that Tortilla Flat drive past the smaller lakes is beautiful, but gets small and rocky fast.

Originally, I thought he was a better CB prospect than WR. Not to say he wasnt a top WR prospect in this class. But I think early in the process you had more "experts" thinking he would be a full time DB with offensive packages.

That is not how the Jags plan to use him, as you are aware. They have already said he will be a WR first.

If I were their GM or Coach, I would have him play WR full time and play some nickleback/free safety on obvious passing downs.

It was a lot for the Jags to give up and personally I am not sure he will wind up being the best WR or best DB in this draft class. But because he is such a unicorn, it made sense for an organization like the Jags even just from the standpoint of generating buzz and excitement, ticket and jersey sales.
