First of all you’ve got the disgraced Andrew Cuomo who had previously been in the lead. After killing old folks during covid and the sexual harassment allegations, I’m surprised he has so much support. But his main competition is Zohran Mandami, who doesn’t have much experience and is a socialist. He also supports boycotting Israeli products and has called their actions in Gaza genocide, so with the recent Iran situation you’ve got crazies like Laura Loomer calling him a “jihadist.” Lastly there’s Brad Lander who of course recently gained fame but really has no chance (so for that reason I still don’t believe he wanted to get arrested). He’s also been endorsing Mandami though, and may have succeeded in getting more support for him, as he has taken a lead in polls for the first time. I know Krystal Ball mentioned that Republicans might have had a chance but supposedly they nominated a whackadoodle also (admittedly I have not looked into it). But on the other hand in this age of Trump highly preferable to any Republican: all hands on deck, right? We have to defeat MAGA wherever we can and sort it out later, that’s the only sane option these days. His views on Palestine, at first glance, are a little bit too left for me, as I regard myself on the center in this issue: I support Israel but not Netanyahu or the right wing, and I’m sympathetic to Palestinians but not to Hamas or violence. This guy is closer to AOC’s position and he wants to divest from Israel which I do not support. That being said the typical conservative labeling of him as anti-Semitic seems unjustified IMO. From what little I know I like his social views and not too much of his economic.views. That’s my view of Karen Bassett as well. I wanted Rick Caruso. But Bassett has done a good job defying Trump. 2026 will depend on two things: if Trump’s tarrifs drive prices up nothing will save the Republicans.
