Schiff, Warren demand to know if CBS is ending Stephen Colbert's 'Late Show' for 'political reasons'

Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., said the public "deserves to know" whether CBS’s decision to cancel "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on Thursday was politically motivated.

"Just finished taping with Stephen Colbert who announced his show was cancelled. If Paramount and CBS ended the Late Show for political reasons, the public deserves to know. And deserves better," Schiff wrote.

Warren added, "CBS canceled Colbert’s show just THREE DAYS after Colbert called out CBS parent company Paramount for its $16M settlement with Trump – a deal that looks like bribery. America deserves to know if his show was canceled for political reasons. Watch and share his message."

CBS said in a statement that the long-running late-night show will end in May 2026, but it was "purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night," adding, "It is not related in any way to the show's performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount."

There had been speculation about the future of the Paramount-owned late-night programs, which also includes "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central, as its planned corporate merger with Skydance Media is expected to take place later this year.

Why does the public deserve to know the reason a private company fired one of it's employees?

i mean, a few people got fired from the City I work for last week and not a peep from either of these hacks

Colbert and more directly Kimmel made it absolutely clear that as a conservative, they were not interested in my viewership.  In fact, Kimmel basically told me to go f myself.   Now I don't know how deliberately telling 1/2 of American viewership to pound sand is a good idea, but this is what these guys wanted.  FAFO

My sources tell me Schiff backed down from his stance last night after meeting with Paramount.

In a totally unrelated move.  Paramount will be announcing Adam Schiff has been cast in the lead role of their Webster reboot.

He will just get an independent show. Network TV is dying. CBS is full blown liberal anyway. It's so ridiculous that Warren and Schiff can turn their blind voters toward any subject regardless of how unimportant it is.

I think that only happens when Kyle Griffin or Kappy are involved.  IYKYK

Schiff is going to have bigger problems to deal with it soon.

He’s going to be forced to wear a leather outfit and stay chained to a trunk in Tim’s basement?

Have you watched those shows since the election?

They are really not "late night" entertainment anymore.  Colbert and Kimmel are so obsessed with Trump they can`t go even one show without constant Trump talk.  By now we all know their dislike of Trump.  We get it.    At this stage it just gets tiresome and stale because the so-called humor of these hosts has been replaced with pure hate.

I never like Colbert that much even before Trump but I used to like and watch Kimmel.  Now Trump has taken his whole funny persona away from him and made him bitter to where his monologue has been ruined.

Make one joke and move on, but it carries in through their whole shows. TDS is real for them.

Nice analogy

It's all very simple.  Paramount wanted to sell to Skydance but needed govt approval.  Trump had a pending lawsuit with paramount over a kamala harris interview he didn't like.  In order to get govt approval, Paramount needed to pay off Trump for the lawsuit.  They probably also had to fire Colbert who Trump doesn't like.

It's the golden age of corruption.

Or they fired a blow hard who ranoff at the mouth about his employer.

In any event the public still has no right to know why they fired him

Now, back to you Trump bashing

No I haven't watched them.  I'm a conservative republican, they told me not to watch their shows.

This is a sad day. My favorite segment was when Claire Danes starter talking about "the intelligence community allying itself with journalists" & then Colbert had to change the subject.

Kimmel is emotionally a female.  That’s why he often cries on his show.

😆 poor gutterboy.

All he does is make shlt up.all day because his TDS is raging inside him.

Colbert's 'Late Show' was reportedly losing CBS $40M a year as critics speculate politics drove cancellation

Puck News' Matt Belloni reported the late-night show "has been losing more than $40 million a year" for CBS and that it had a budget of "more than $100 million per season," contrasting it with network's daytime and primetime programming, which he noted were "still profitable."

"'Late Show,' with its topical humor and celebrity interviews pegged to specific projects, has struggled on Paramount+. And of the three network late-night shows, ‘Late Show’ has by far the smallest digital footprint on YouTube and other platforms," Belloni wrote. "So from a business perspective, the cancellation makes sense."

Unlike you, I don't take advice from Comedians. But nice try Timmay.

I'm unfadable Cuzzo. 🏆
