US Federal Government Shutdown Thread

That doesn't mean that they told ATC to stay home does it?  My understanding is that they just cut the flights but it's independent of ATC schedules.  They still want the ATCs to show up whenever they can, but some aren't.

You’re right. My bad.

If you cancel flights then the ATC guys are not working. Thats all I’m saying here.

Not necessarily.

Look, we're on the same page here, the flight cancellations were ordered by Trump as a means to inflict pain on Americans.  Not as a response to ATC shortages.  We've had ATC shortages all year and they've done nothing, and they have been working without pay for months now.  But ATCs have been calling out more than normal and there is not indication that they are told to stay home due to these cuts.  Semantics I guess.

According to the FAA’s order, the flight cuts will increase to 10% over the next week, beginning with 4% on Friday, 6% by Tuesday, 8% by Thursday and finally 10% on Nov. 14.

Again, the flight cancellations were ordered by Trump as a means to inflict pain on Americans as shown by this tightening.  It's not a response to ATC shortages who are not predicted to increase at these same intervals.

All good.

See this is how discourse should be handled on the board.

The top two headlines on CNBC right now.  If that's not a snapshot of what Donald Trump's America has become, I don't know what is.

OK i overstated it about the ATC. My bad. But my point is that this was a deliberate decision by Duffy, they didn’t have to cancel these flights:

Wrong

Just a wittle overstatement, but let me now shift to where I still pretend that AT controllers arent calling in sick like crazy and go back to blaming trump.

Classic ron artist material. I mean con artest. I mean con artist.

Can’t imagine orders coming down to a local ATC manager to order ATC to stay home. Neither would jeopardize a 40% of their high salary plus medical . If it did OIG would clean house

People complaining about flights being cancelled want planes to crash to score political points. Flights are cancelled for safety. The President can’t end the shutdown. Republicans can’t end the shutdown.

60 votes are required in the senate to end the filibuster

There are 53 R’s.

😧

They do? WTF is wrong with you?

Wait, what has anyone critical of Trump said here regarding the shutdown that is anywhere close to your statement (see above) which I will quote again for those that might have missed it:

"People complaining about flights being cancelled want planes to crash to score political points."

We want planes to crash and people killed just to score political points? 😧

There is something obviously wrong with you if you believe that and that was not just trolling this thread.

No, but he can be a leader. He should get Schumer and Johnson in the room and work on getting a deal done. He’s the one who has to get people together.

They'll end it when Trump is ready to end it. Dems will need to be blamed, and Dems need to figure out a way to give Trump credit for something. But they should just do it already, the air travel thing is a bridge too far IMO.

It would probably help your argument if the President hadn’t put a TV personality in charge of the Transportation Department & who’s overseen the worst year in aviation safety in decades.

Some of you were cheering on the Potomac river crash once you found out it wasn't a black guy or gay guy as the pilot.

Elaine Chao had spent 12 years as Deputy Secretary of Transportation, 8 years as Secretary of Labor, she was director of Peace Corps, headed the Maritime Commission, was director of United Way.

Duffy was DA in Ashland County, population 16K. When he was hired he was a tv pundit.

Schumer offered a compromise just now: extend the ACA subsidies for one year only. Thune says it’s a non-starter.

Why a year?  Shouldn't it only be until the full budget is passed?  You know, when negotiation is supposed to actually happen?  :dunno:

I don’t know what the thinking was. But it seems to me that what you’re suggesting would mean simply including the ACA extension within the current CR bill. Which I’m pretty sure the Dems would go for, don’t you think?
