I heard this on a podcast about Aaron Hernandez and the research behind CTE. 

Obviously, this mostly applies to tackle football at a younger age and head injuries. But I found in very interesting that if only 10% of mothers (not sure why they didn't mention dads) didn't allow their children (mostly boys) to play tackle football, eventually there would be no NFL. 

Also, not sure if this is a moon landing since that article is old, but I don't really care.

I am just saying that I found it an interesting statistic, 10% doesn't seem like it would have such a large effect on the NFL but it makes sense.

We already are seeing this in some of the suburbs.  This is as football rabid of a place as you can be from.  But when it comes to football, more parents are steering their kids towards other sports even if they want to watch football on Saturdays.  Of course it helps now that the AHSAA has become essentially a deal where if you're good enough, your parents are going to end up with great jobs in one of the city school systems where the booster money is nuts for a high school program.  So in many cases, these systems are often importing their players from poorer districts in order to win.

This was talked about years ago, that with increasing awareness to things like CTE, as well as the general beating football players subject their bodies to, that parents would stop allowing their kids to play and steer them toward other sports and the NFL would become flag football. 

I disagreed then, and I disagree now and my rationale will 100% come off as racist. Basically, I think we have already seen a shift in more affluent areas where kids are leaning toward baseball, basketball, lacrosse, soccer, etc etc. Some really talented kids may not wind up playing college football or NFL because they have other options or academics... But there will always been a stream of talent funneling to the NFL from areas where kids use sports as a way out. And if little Marshawn Lynch is talented enough to go pro in basketball, maybe he will, but if he is clearly most talented at football, no one is going to stop him or steer him in another direction. the NFL (and now college) is how they will feed dey families (and the other people who latch onto them)

Willing to bet there a racial aspect purposefully left out.  Considering that black people make up 80% of the NFL, if black mom's (probably that 10% of the whole), said "no", that would greatly diminish the athlete participation. 

Also, I'm guessing that dad's aren't mentioned because it's a battle husband’s/dad's aren't willing to fight, in the relationship dynamic.

Agree.  Maybe a few less elite QB’s and offensive lineman, but the NFL should be fine at the rest of the positions.
