Mark Davis 424 Posted Wednesday at 11:28 PM Most valuable probably a PSA 9 graded 1986 Fleer Michael Jordan rookie card. Most prized, either Lance Berkman's AA BP/alternate jersey or a cracked Louisville Slugger name stamped bat from my since deceased HS teammate when he got a short stint with the KC Royals.

I still have a couple, I think I have the Kings and Bucks sealed from 1986. I have an 86 Fleer set in the registry. I was top 50 but may have slipped some. Haven't checked in quite awhile. So stupid not to sell during Covid.

So stupid not to sell during Covid. Yeah, I actually sold a few high dollar cards I got graded PSA 10 during Covid but I bought a lot more and got credit card debt that I finally paid off. And I lost out on a lot of money by holding almost all cards I have which is a ton. My collection is still worth a lot of money but not as much as it was. I should have sold everything, I could have upgraded to a significantly bigger new house. I mean I guess I could still today or anytime but it's harder to sell now with less interest from potential buyers.

I definitely got ahead during that time. Around the start of Covid I took an interest in finishing that old 86 set again I used to have and buy and sell in for money while in college. I got some 10's. One I did buy/flip was the Steve Johnson. I realized it was low pop. I bought one and when things got nuts I put it out there and sold it. I bought it for around $330 in late 2020 and got $8K for it in April 2022. I wish I had bought all of them up I could find rather than just 1. They were like low 80s in pop count for 10s. So that lick definitely helps. I picked up my Jordan as an investment for $5350 back in late 2019. I'm obviously way up but not near what I was. I had Heritage Auctions ready to do my set with stickers at the time but the packaging to send to them was onerous. I should have followed through because my normal business was stalled during Covid. My set was top 50 back then, I just checked it and I"m bumped down to 54. It's weird b/c the valuable ones just sit in a box at the bank. I have that set all 9's and 10's, then stickers with a 9 Jordan. I am missing the Jabbar. The estimate on the auction was I'd get around $100K (I can't recall if the Johnson 10 was still in the set or if I'd sold it and put a 9 in it's place). Talk about missing the boat. Yeah, mine are stored in plastic boxes with lids and the best cards in my safe. I just like owning them for some reason. Now I collect carded Star Wars The Vintage Collection figures and sealed in box starships, etc. The figures are in plastic boxes too. I pretty much got every carded figure from all the movies and shows all purchased just this year. I keep a checklist with prices paid. For the cards I keep a list in Excel also, with sold prices, except I need to go and update a lot of those prices. I base prices on ebay sold prices but haven't been as good about updating those for a while now. At least that 1986 Fleer Basketball graded set is desirable and really nice, so even though you don't have cash for it, you have it which is pretty great. Fnord 2,484 Posted 18 hours ago I still have several hundred comic books that probably aren't worth much, but realistically I'll probably never sell them. I have a first-printing of Back In Black on vinyl autographed by all the band members. It was a gift and I don't really know what it's worth, but it doesn't matter. That one is staying in my collection til I die. My kids can do what they want with it.

jerryskids 7,048 Posted 13 hours ago I'll interject a serious answer. Short answer is I wouldn't say I'm much of a collector. When I was young I collected baseball cards. This was the mid 70s, before it became a big industry. I'd buy a pack of cards with the gum inside when I had some money (I remember when the cost went from 10 cents to 15 cents, it was robbery!). I actually completed the 1976 Topps set that way. But we didn't treat them well -- we'd trade and flip our doubles, or stick them in bike spokes. Topps made cards in Duryea, PA which is like 10 miles from where I grew up. I had a cousin who worked there and occasionally brought me a pile. A lot of it was obscure stuff, like these stamp panels with 4 players each IIRC. I have no idea if they are worth anything now, but I'm pretty sure I still have them all in my attic. When Fleer and Donruss came out and it started becoming more of a business/investment, I bowed out. These days I sorta collect baseball caps. I only have ~30 and 1/2 of them are from (mostly) local sports teams, but increasingly I've been getting them on our travels. In the past 2-3 years I've picked up hats from Mount Rushmore, Bandon Dunes Golf in Oregon, the British Open, Skagway Alaska, Jerome AZ, and most recently from the Hudson Whiskey Co in upstate New York. I have a little sports memorabilia, but nothing super. A signed game bat from Geraldo Perdomo, signed football from Anquan Boldin. The DBacks love to give out bobbleheads so I've got several of those. The biggest things we collect are tchotchke from trips. We've been doing it since a trip to Rome almost 20 years ago. Something small, and the dumber the better. We also collect real art on trips, usually the larger ones if we see something we like. Most of the pieces have great stories behind them. I'd say it is the memories we are collecting more than the actual art.

jerryskids 7,048 Posted 13 hours ago 1 minute ago, The Elevator Killer said: I had to google tchotchke. Sorry. For others, it is a trinket, generally useless. Quote The word "tchotchke" comes from the Yiddish word tshatshke, which means "trinket" or "knick-knack". It was likely adapted from an earlier, now-obsolete Slavic word, and some believe it may be onomatopoeic, imitating baby sounds. The term became more common in American English during the 1970s. I am of Polish and Slovakian ethnicity, and the word was common when I was growing up. Which was the 70s.

Of all my stuff, I have a few random pictures of days in the past that I keep, and about 15 pocket knives that are not historical or anything but are super high quality and varied. Not much of a packrat in the least in life. In fact, my GF and I probably do spring cleaning about 3 times a year. We are a near opposite of hoarders. Oh, I have a cool small folding magnifying glass in a small leather case that my dad had for many years that he used at his work to view the print on the 4 color press he used to run in his career job. 1
