12th Man 884 Posted December 20, 2016 How many of you guys use ESPN for your fantasy leagues? We have used RTS for many years but some owners want to switch to ESPN and save the fees. Any thoughts on ESPN?
Frozenbeernuts 1,652 Posted December 20, 2016 I think as long as your league isn't super custom, it's fine. I have no issue with the site at all, though I know some don't like it. the app is nice and streamlined, though I don't like how I can't view the Commissioner league notes in app

Any thoughts on ESPN? My league has been on ESPN for over a decade and I love it - especially as compared to nfl.com and yahoo. *shudders at those memories*
Law 220 Posted December 20, 2016 Despite what others might think and what is consider cool, ESPN and other sites don't even come close to the customization available on Yahoo. For examples, when looking at available players on Yahoo, I can sort by Season Total, Season Average, Last 4 Weeks Total or Average, next week's projection, next 4 weeks projection, remaining season projection, or even a given week in the future. Few of that other Season Total and Average is available on ESPN. On ESPN and NFL because that's what other commissioners chose, but Yahoo is better. Even if it's not "cool."
Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted December 20, 2016 We pay Sportsline and I don't think that it is worth it. I think that we will be considering moving. We have 10+ years of history, but who really cares?

We made the mistake one year of trying ESPN and actually bailed on it mid-season. Been on Yahoo since 2002 and very happy. As noted - ESPN has basically no customizing capabilities in the free leagues. Yahoo has quite a few options and their app works way better than ESPN's (I was in an ESPN league last year and it was inaccurate or crashed a lot of the time)

I'll join those expressing satisfaction with Yahoo's search capabilities and add in that I like the Fantasy Points Against page and the flexibility of the Adds/Drops page. Yahoo has so many leagues that I think you get a good depth of information on how developments that change the landscape are perceived by the crowd, via the Add/Drops page. Loaded Box 5 Posted December 20, 2016 I prefer Yahoo over ESPN. The Yahoo app doesn't allow you to view your playoff bracket - to my knowledge - but other than that I zero issues with it. Any other preferences besides Yahoo, NFL and ESPN?
Jarvis Basnight 119 Posted December 21, 2016 We used to pay for CBS. Then switched to ESPN. Not a fan. Someone in our league said Yahoo much better than ESPN. We're switching next year. Is there anything ESPN does nowadays that doesn't blow?

Captain Goomy Noomy Roo 47 Posted December 21, 2016 ESPN is a little clunky compared to Yahoo. I like the waiver searching capabilities better in Yahoo. For pay sites myfantasyleague.com is pretty cool and has some add-ons that make the season interesting
ralphster 274 Posted December 21, 2016 MFL > all others. Costs $6 team (12 team league) and offers the most customizable UI and league options. If you're in any dynasty or keeper leagues it's the best, speaking as a mish and a manager in multiple leagues. (Not a paid endorser)
thePRO 78 Posted December 21, 2016 CBS App is the best. It literally has everything you could find on the full site. I just hate CBS doesn't let you customize anything, so I'm probably switching. I like NFL.com, but I despise the APP. It's terrible. I hate Yahoo's full site. It's the worst. The one thing I notice with NFL.com is it has articles like CBS, but if you continue your league every year it keeps track of W/L stats. For example, I read an article last week that I beat a team and overall am 5-1 against him these last 3 years. That's pretty cool to know for bragging rights and just statistically. redsrback 30 Posted December 21, 2016 You can view the Commisioners note under 'League Info'. Make sure your logged on to read it. Also customization is however you choose to set it up before the season. Any problems the commish can contact espn. With that said, its nice to mix things up if you have not experienced other sites. WhiteWonder 2,172 Posted December 21, 2016 Espn is superior to yahoo not close really. Mfl is good if you need super customization. Otherwise it's set up like a highschool Web design class. Very very clunky. I've learned to live with it duet it's popularity.
Quickolas1 80 Posted December 21, 2016 Saying ESPN is customizable is a stretch. There's a few settings you have to choose before the season starts - and can't change them?! after the fact if you missed something - but I wouldn't use the word customizable. And they hide Customer Support email. Not that it matters, emailing or calling them (they advertise the 800# - which isn't even a dedicated fantasy website knowledgeable support line - to cut down on people contacting them) is pointless. The CBS app is missing the Watch List. If you want to put in a quick add/drop on your phone, you have to go find the player. Not a deal-breaker but they should add the Watch list. If you want a true auction-salary cap league, none of the big media companies have it. You couldn't pay me to go back to one of those after switching to MFL and self-teaching myself how to customize the site appearance. And it wasn't hard and I'm not a coder. MFL is also going to get a big upgrade in 2017. (mobile responsive templates for commishes who don't put forth any effort to customize)

And think he did change something during the season before by contacting them.

Quickolas1 80 Posted December 21, 2016 It's very easy to contact fantasy support and they respond quickly. Just an fyi Thanks. I stand corrected. I just went through the Help/FAQ area of my baseball league and it definitely looks better than it did at the beginning of 2016. There's a clear submit feedback button now at the bottom. Before, it was almost impossible to find and there was always a "call 1-800" message on each of the FAQ pages!
uwmalcolm 73 Posted December 21, 2016 The only thing I find annoying about ESPN is that you can't have multiple matchups per week. CBS has that (as does MFL of course). It's not worth 150 in my opinion. I'm happy with ESPN and have run several leagues on there for quite a few years. Yahoo is okay too but I prefer ESPN. NFL.com is horrible so don't even consider it. LunaTick 29 Posted December 24, 2016 As it Free, is tolerable. Note, I am referring to their League Manager product. They also have another product, but I don't believe it retains year to year stats, etc. Tolerable in that every offseason I desire to move elsewhere, but only to another Free site. Every year, do not find another offering enough site improvements to make the move. Love to get a good recommendation myself. Some Issues I have with my leagues rules are 1. we restrict FA adds to 2 a week. ESPN cannot admin this rule. I can only limit the total number a season. 2. Once players Current Game starts, they are locked from FA until Tuesday AM. (league had allowed Next week FA occuring after start of game) 3. Alternate Playoffs have to be manually set. We do a 2 bracket. 1 is a loser bowl. 10 team league. 4 teams do not make playoffs and participate in this when and out format. Loser of this tourney bring some of the beverage for next season. 4. Lacks ability to develop or improve its products Yahoo - As commish I am concerned, it cannot customize our rules correctly. ESPN isn't that great either, but is slightly better. Doesn't Yahoo require you use a Yahoo email to setup your league? Problem with all these free site. Customer service in this regard is non existant.
