Patriots trade Mankins to Tampa Bay for...

Recommended Posts

TIM WRIGHT!

The New England Patriots have traded six-time Pro Bowl guard Logan Mankins to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for tight end Tim Wright and a draft pick, a league source has confirmed to ESPNBoston.com's Field Yates.
Mankins, 32, has spent his entire nine-year career with the Patriots and has been New England's most consistent lineman in front of star quarterback Tom Brady.
A first-round draft selection in 2005, Mankins signed a six-year contract worth $51 million with New England in 2011.

This tells me Gronk may not be back for a while?

or they are going to try 2 TE sets again?

Tim Wright had some huge games for TB. with Mike Glennon throwing to him?

I wonder why. It is not like the Pats line is doing that great. They must really want to get back to that TE-based pass offense.

Mankins cap hit was 10.5 million this year?

$6.25 in salary and $4m pro-rated bonus.

He signed that big deal a few years ago with a big bonus.

ETA: Schefter says that it is a 4th rounder in 2015 in addition to Wright

same time the eagles get that elusive super bowl ring

That is not fair at all. Only one of those is even a possibility.

Hernandez could still make it back to the NFL.

Seems like a bad move to me, they've got a couple minor questions on that line (RG mainly), now they have to add another question mark.

Will miss his nastiness and veteran leadership too

I'm amazed Ball-O-Chit didn't call you for advice before making the trade.

this hurts Hernandez dynasty value.

Keep underrating Doug Martin guys, and keep letting him fall in your drafts. Ill happily take him in rnd 2 if I had an early pick in rnd 1.

I think this speaks far more to their desire to go back to the 2 Te passing formation that worked well for them before than gronks health. It is obviously a hedge against an injury of course too. But the twin te set is my guess.

it speaks solely on not wanting to pay a guard 6 million and 10 million on the cap

That's the main thing but they've been wanting another TE too. They've been bringing in guys off the street left and right but clearly didn't find that diamond in the rough they were hoping for

Wishing death on someone you don't know because you disagree with them on a messageboard? You may want to work on your social skills.

They must have seen something in the Bucs practice videos that made them want Wright.

Apparently jerry Jones is happy with sucking

You may be right. There were some pics released recently that I'm pretty sure involved sucking, and he looked pretty happy.

Apparently Tommy Pigtails is not happy about the trade.

This is all coming from some dude at Bleacher Report. May be true, but we'll need to hear it from more reliable sources first.

I doubt he's stoked, but Mankins did give up eight sacks over the last half of the season and did not play well in the playoffs (remember how Broncos DT Terrance Knighton looked like an absolute world beater in the AFCCG?). Brady likes staying upright

Lol. Really, a QB isn't happy that he lost a 6 time Pro Bowl lineman he's played with for almost a decade? Shocking stuff right there.
