And "fair" is not the word I use to describe $20 for a starter job intended for HS kids with no training or education.

Was definitely sad. Who wouldn’t be? But I got amazingly lucky. Heck, I’ll tell the story: She died April 2013. By summer 2014 I was feeling ready to try to begin living life and having love again, but my kids understandably were still pretty wrecked. I tried to do something to revive my 16 yo son’s interest in being alive and growing up. I’m a big Neil Young fan, and he had become one as well. During this time, Neil was developing a high end music player called Pono. (It turned out to be a failure for a couple reasons but it was a good concept). He was having a couple of launch parties and was inviting folks (for a fee) to meet and have dinner with him, get a PONO player, and see a presentation about it. One was in Chicago, where my family are from. I decided this would be a good way to cheer him up. I can’t remember what my ask was, except that it was pretty expensive and I think I asked if they’d sponsor Max to come? Couple days later I get a VM from Eliot Roberts (which I still have on my phone), saying Neil would like to invite him to a private meeting and give him a signed guitar before the dinner. I can’t remember if they paid for me and Max and I paid for my 13yo, or it was just Max and I paid the other two, but whatever we were all going to Chicago! It was Nov 1, 2014. On Halloween night I was bored and like I said I was starting to come back alive some so for giggles I checked out Chicago Tinder. My profile pic was a robot smoking a cigarette and my son thought I was an idiot: “No woman is gonna swipe a robot, dad.” I said “the right one would.” I got two right swipes (or whichever direction is Yes). One was a bot, the other I’ve been with pretty much since that night. We didn’t meet until 2 months later but we got married in 2019 and I had no idea marriage could be this easy. Not necessarily all the you go through when married, but the relationship itself is one of a kind. No dis to my wonderful first wife but we had nowhere near the connection I do now. (The next day we went to Neil’s hotel room at the Waldorf on Michigan Ave, talked for about 10 minutes, Max got a half size signed Martin acoustic, and then the five of us—me and the kids, Neil and Eliot—went to the elevator and down to dinner together. That may have actually been the coolest, just strolling through the Waldorf with Neil Young to dinner. He was so nice, came to every table and talked to every person, hugged my daughter and whispered in her ear “take care of your Dad.”)

Rubios can blame the minimum wage but the truth is they’re a mediocre product who over expanded in an area where there are Mexican restaurants and taco stands on every corner. There are restaurants thriving here everywhere. Also, and this I say with direct, inside knowledge: Rubio’s site selector and director of leasing did very poor jobs choosing locations and signing leases.

You don't see the blatant contradictions in what you are arguing. It's amusing at this point.

You could've been an NBA point guard or physicist. You just didn't work hard enough to develop those skills

I did not realize that I suggested the poor did nothing to deserve being poor. If that was actually stated somewhere then I was speaking in error. If you find yourself poor in this nation then you have made bad choices. This is not rocket science. You can ignore this fact, but it will remain. This is a major failure of the liberal mind.....pretending we are all equally allotted in terms of ability, and of the system were just more fair everyone would have equity....which is galactically stupid, not to mention abhorrent.... Its time to grow up and set aside this childish notions of how the world works

Oh so the reason they're poor is they make poor life choices now? Huh. You've been making the case that the reason they're poor is because of Biden here for months, and you've been railing on anyone that doesnt empathize with what they're going through. But now it's because they made bad choices. You're hilarious.

What an ingenious long con! My favorite long con was a guy whose neighbor got a new car and was bragging about how great the mileage was. “I’m getting 32 mpg on my way to work!” So at night he started going over next door and putting more gas in the tank. The guy kept getting more and more incredulous: “I haven’t filled up in a MONTH! How does a car even GET 70 mpg?” You know what happened next: he started removing gas each night, just to see his neighbor go from exultant to puzzled and then frantic with worry. LOLOL

I had no part in any of those things. And someone defending J6 NEVER gets to call someone else out on revisionist history. Your lack of self awareness and inability to appreciate nuance and detail is striking. Have you ever had an original thought? I guess you have, because you claim to somehow "win" exchanges here despite the fact that you're the only one dumb enough to believe it. Torridjoe's return has really spun you out.

This is such a tired perspective. I'm going to call you out because you're smarter and much more well balanced than a MAGAMOOK, so it will hopefully sink in. "My side" is America. My side would never loot or burn because my side cares about what happens to other people, even when they disagree with me. Much like J6, it's okay to admit that the vast majority remained peaceful, and that majority should be applauded for having the fortitude to make themselves heard in a peaceful way. And then people with bad intentions came and fukked it all up. Those people are not on my side.

In order to be down the middle here, one must not speak ill of conservatives. You’re a sensitive bunch.

Yeah it’s disrespectful, when the “extreme danger to life or property” is that your bagina hurts

We are not all equally allotted in terms of availability. I will never be an NBA point guard, nor a physicist. Some will....and its not unfair, they just have more gifts than I do....there is nothing "unfair" in that. Now....I get that this concept is not resonating for you......but in this nation, you have the ability to rise out of your station into higher station, if you make good choices. Inflation existed before Trump, and will exist after him, what is rare is the stupidity of someone like Biden to inflame it with poor decisions. You seem to lack the cognitive ability to speak forthrightly about these concepts.

So anyone suffering from inflation right now just made bad choices, got it. I'll remember that.

I've already owned all that by saying we had a falling out around that time over that but we've since found common ground and patched up things. You hate this and are trying to dysfunctionally drive a wedge into that because you're insecure about having the leftiest of all lefties back on the board, but it's not going to work. I love the guy, and he's been a great friend off and on for a quarter century. You need a napkin to wipe my ass juice off your face? Your ilk keeps driving me farther left, because your ilk is filled with hate, ignorance, intolerance, fear and violence-supporting fockery.

I too am a former Democrat and voted for that fraud Obama twice. Then I joined the dark side. Feels good.

The whole concept of “sanctuary cities” is weird, given that the entire country is literally a sanctuary according to the constitution. It’s a federal matter and nonfederal LEO have no role.

I agree with you. Poverty leads to crime, as a general rule. But the vast majority of undocumented immigrants come here and are typically able to get work very quickly, mainly because they’re willing to work for wages lower than minimum wage. Not only do they work, they work long hours and are too busy to get involved in violent crime. In addition, they have strong reason to avoid situations that might lead to confrontation with police because they fear deportation. For these two reasons, most undocumented immigrants don’t fall into the “poverty leads to crime” category. Statistics continually bear this out, though all too many people focus on the exceptions who do commit violent crimes.

I am more upset about the Rubio's closing around here. They made good fish tacos.

This. MAGAmooks don't understand that democrats don't hold Joe Biden in ANY esteem, let alone the god-and-savior status Trump enjoys in their ranks. They're so used to worshipping Trump that they forget that it's insane to think of ANYONE that way, much less a CONVICTED FELON pretending to be a leader.

https://www.outsports.com/2024/6/4/24095378/outkick-nfl-pride-month-gay-lgbtq-celebrate/ Anti-gay OutKick idiots celebrate NFL teams they falsely claim aren’t celebrating Pride Month Pride Month is upon us, and the NFL is all over it. The league has again created a whole Pride Month apparel line, celebrating the LGBTQ community, love and our football fandom. This is on the heels of an NFL-sponsored LGBTQ Super Bowl party in Las Vegas. On social media, the league has shared Pride-inspired messages from various NFL teams. This is in addition to the year-round support the NFL and its teams show the LGBTQ community. Yet OutKick hack Armando Salguero decided that, because a handful of NFL teams hadn’t yet shared a Pride-specific message in the first three days of Pride Month, this was cause for celebration. They hadn’t “bowed” to the LGBTQ community. He couldn’t even get his homophobia right. One NFL team that OutKick celebrated for allegedly rejecting Pride Month — the Detroit Lions — literally have a Lions Pride apparel line that they’re promoting on their social media account. In fact, every single NFL team — including some of OutKick’s alleged heroes against the gays like the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs — has Pride T-shirts, hats, stickers, you name it. Another team — the Cleveland Browns — may not have posted a message on X about Pride Month. Yet at the NFL Draft, they had an out gay former player with the Browns — Carl Nassib — announce of the team’s draft picks, and he was accompanied by the head of Trevor Project. On national television. Oh yes, they certainly are rejecting the LGBTQ community! Regarding the small handful of NFL teams — less than a third — who haven’t yet shared Pride Month messages, it’s Pride MONTH, not Pride-first-three-days-of-June. Some of these teams will wait until their city has its Pride weekend. And some teams won’t share a message during Pride Month. That doesn’t mean they’ve rejected Pride or the LGBTQ community or anything of the sort. [...]
