RicemanX 20 Posted March 24, 2006 The Raiders will have a better record this year than the Niners. He seems optimistic about this Brooks to Moss TD thing (which only will happen around 10 times I project). Should I take the bet?

TimmySmith 2,783 Posted March 24, 2006 He seems optimistic about this Brooks to Moss TD thing (which only will happen around 10 times I project). "Only" 10 tds for Moss. That should be more than the Niners get as a team. Niners will be lucky to improve by a game this year, their division is getting tougher. Getting rid of Norv should be worth a 3 game improvement for the Raiders.
listen2me 23 1,952 Posted March 24, 2006 Id be shocked if the 9ers win 5 or more this year...and naything can happen in the Nfl as we all know ....but i would still be shocked... Raiders will win about 6 or
Fumbleweed 555 Posted March 24, 2006 I think the Raiders will be the better team, but they also play in a tougher division and a tougher conference, so the records may be close to the same.

football_scooter 0 Posted March 24, 2006 The Raiders will have a better record this year than the Niners. He seems optimistic about this Brooks to Moss TD thing (which only will happen around 10 times I project). Should I take the bet? I took the exact same bet with a buddy last year, but it was $100 and change the name "Brooks" to "Collins" for the exact same reasoning. And today I am $100 wealthier as a result. Decent bet, but I dunno if I'd make it this year - Brooks is just inconsistent enough to play well enough to screw you, and Moss might actually be healthy again. jockdoc 0 Posted March 24, 2006 Here's one for ya. The Niners and Raiders have the same futile record combined for the past three seasons. They both are 13-35, ouch. Only one out of those three years did the Raiders have a better record, good odds. So much for the "Commitment to Excellence".
Raider 84 29 Posted March 24, 2006 Don't bet against the Raiders! I'm sure your friend will raise the stakes if your willing.

pollardposse 0 Posted March 25, 2006 I'd take that bet in a minute. The niner's have lost the above-average players they had on the team. Who will replace Peterson and Carter? No one. Lloyd was only an average receiver, but is Bryant any better? Quick, name three of their five offensive linemen...... The niners will be lucky to win 4 games this season. If the over/under was set at 4, I would be inclined to take the under. The Raiders at least have a hard nosed coach who will keep them competitive. The last time Shell was on the Raiders sideline, they didn't have this much talent and still managed to play competitive ball. A real bet would be who wins more between the 49'ers and Jets. This will be a lesson in futility for both teams!

manola 0 Posted March 26, 2006 haha, i'll take THAT bet right there Honestly, what makes you think the 9ers will win more than the Raiders? I'm not saying I don't think they will (though if I was forced to choose, I'd say the Raiders win more), but I'm interested in knowing what makes you think the 9ers win more? I'm not saying I don't think they will (though if I was forced to choose, I'd say the Raiders win more), but I'm interested in knowing what makes you think the 9ers win more? I think the Raiders are losing JUST as much talent as the Niners this year, their biggest transaction this offseason is picking up Aaron Brooks, who is coming of his worst year. If "Long-Bomb" Collins can't get the ball to Moss, why would ANYONE think Brooks will be able to? The Niners signed Larry Allen, who is going strengthened the running game, and will give Alex Smith more time in the pocket. We picked up Antonio Bryant to replace Lloyd (who is going to be a bust again this year). Rashan Woods said he was 100%. There is no possible way Alex Smith can do worse than he did last year. I didn't take the bet with my friend, not because I think the Raiders are going to be better, I just don't trust my Niners this year. Maybe after the draft, I might reconsider the bet again. RicemanX 20 Posted March 27, 2006 I don't think you've watched Allen block the last couple of years. Well, he might not be an all-pro anymore, but he is going to help the young O-Line grow and improve. The 49ers outbid several suitors to put the 6-foot-3, 325-pound Allen on a line that improved last season, but still struggled just as much as every other part of the NFL's 32nd-ranked offense. Which means that there are several teams in the NFL that knows Allen can still contribute to the team and in the game.

He has done nothing - former quarterbacks are beating him for playing time - My heart is with the Niners but my $$ would be with the east bay!

t.j 35 Posted March 28, 2006 The last time Shell was on the Raiders sideline, they didn't have this much talent and still managed to play competitive ball. Actually, Shell's old L.A. Raiders were more talented than Shell's new Oakland Raiders are. Players who played most or all of Shell's years that are better than what the Raiders have now: FB Steve Smith OL Steve Wisniewski, Don Mosebar, Max Montoya, Bruce Wilkerson DL Howie Long, Greg Townsend DB Terry McDaniel, Eddie Anderson K Jeff Jaeger Good contributors who played part of Shell's years: QB Steve Beuerlein, Jeff Hostetler RB Bo Jackson, Marcus Allen WR Tim Brown OL Kevin Gogan DL Bill Pickel, Bob Golic, Anthony Smith LB Mike Jones DB Mike Haynes, Vann McElroy, Ronnie Lott Most of the Raiders who are currently starting at running back, offensive line, defensive line, and in the secondary can't hold the jocks of the players Shell had then. Moss and Porter are big upgrades but WR is about the last position I'd really want to have a strength at. The LBs sucked in Shell's first gig but they still do. Other than Moss and Porter, the only real upgrade in talent is P Shane Lechler. Howie Long and Bo Jackson alone made the 1990 team more talented than the 2006 Raiders. Little Big Head 6 Posted March 28, 2006 The Raiders have better and more established talent at the skill positions on offense. I really don't know anything about the 49'ers except that they don't have much of anything on either side of the ball, and play in a division that has some pretty potent offenses. Is there something about SF that makes you think they have a chance to win you this bet?

Simply, Brooks/Moss/Porter/Jordan >>>> Niners O. Both Ds stink At least the Raiders can put up some points. The Niners are heading in the right direction, but it will take another couple of years before the drafts show results on the field. Losing Peterson didnt help matters any as well.
