rallo 136 Posted May 5, 2006 I'm gonna say mine is Warren Zevon... didn't get the publicity of others during his time. Two songs most everyone knows werewolves of london/lawyers, guns, and money also "headless thompson gunner" gives me chills whenever i hear it very underrated song from an underrated artist

GobbleDog 1,001 Posted May 5, 2006 Scott Joplin - If any of yall know who he is, I'd be shocked. Joplin was the son of a slave who composed music back in the 1900's. His most well known songs were in the movie The Sting... the entertainer, maple leaf rag, etc.
What is the deal? 1 Posted May 5, 2006 Anchondo You can listen here to 2 demos. http://www.anchondo.com/home.html Press play at the top right hand of the screen. Those are their 2 latest songs, but there 1st CD is much better. The lead guitarist kind of has a Santana vibe too him mixed in with some rock beats.

Two songs most everyone knows werewolves of london/lawyers, guns, and money also "headless thompson gunner" gives me chills whenever i hear it very underrated song from an underrated artist I've always loved this couplet from "Desperado Under the Eaves": And if California slides into the ocean Like the mystics and statistics say it will I predict this motel will be standing until I pay my bill
Dr. Octopus 0 Posted May 5, 2006 The Jayhawks. While they are not completely unknown, you'd be hard pressed to hear anyone talk them up much. I have been obsessed with their music since I first heard their major label release "Hollywood Town Hall" and have looked forward to every release since. They are labled as "alternative country" in the vein of bands such as Wilco. They have a sing song, front porch style with excellant harmonies and very clever lyrics. I may listen to their music more than any other artist outside of the Stones.

Zevon's is some of the smartest songwriting of our generation. Scott Joplin - If any of yall know who he is, I'd be shocked. Joplin was the son of a slave who composed music back in the 1900's. Hopefully, folks on here aren't as dumb as you think. Hopefully. Dandy Warhols. The chick in that band has some of the nicest breasteses in rock & roll. Natural, youthful and bouncy. sanders 0 Posted May 5, 2006 My favorite is like, totally Paris Hilton. She totally doesn't get like enough respect and stuff for being so talented. She like, works so hard to be in the public eye all the time and is totally hot. I totally think that people are just like jealous and stuff of her because she totally gets all the hot guys. She works all the time on like her movies, tv appearances, and stuff. I think her best work was her sex tape, I mean who else can suck a hog for that long other than Paris? No one, that's who. That must have been like totally tiring but so totally worth the fame it got her. It just, like, goes to show that you have to work hard to get to the top and stuff and I want to be just like her. From - Every dumbass teenage girl who wants to be a hooker just like Paris......God Bless Them All !!!!! Me likey hot easy girls soon to be legal
naomi 356 Posted May 5, 2006 Ryan Cabrera. He acts really goofy and most of his fan are pre teen girls, but he can actually sing and play well and has a soulful quality.

Dude there is a ton of knowledge here. Newbers knows his shiot. I managed a music store. Scott Joplin's music in The Sting was played by Marvin Hamlisch. Last I heard he was a conductor in Pittsburgh.
Ilov80s 0 Posted May 5, 2006 The Kinks- maybe not underated, but definitely under appreciated. Totally agree there. I'd have to say Van Morrison as well. I am younger (23) so maybe this doesn't apply to the baby boomer generation, but whenever I mention him as a favorite of mine to peers I get the same response: "one-hit wonder". SUXBNME 1,563 Posted May 5, 2006 Dream Theater has got to be the most underappreciated bands of all time. Those who know that genre / style of music appreciate them, but it just seems that the masses have never hooked on to them the way they have, say, Rush or Queensryche.. Only 1 "hit" song in the US (Pull me Under) to my knowledge. These guys have got to be some of the greatest musicians ever to play together in the same band.. Yes, I know this thread is about underrated, not underappreciated.

I am younger (23) so maybe this doesn't apply to the baby boomer generation, but whenever I mention him as a favorite of mine to peers I get the same response: "one-hit wonder". Van Morrison is DEFINITELY underrated (especially among young adults). Whenever I mention him to my friends, most of them say: "Who's that?" And those that have actually heard of him say: "Oh, yeah...he wrote that one song...uh...Brown-Eyed Girl, right???"--and they've never heard any of his other songs. Too bad, my age-groups seems to have totally undiscovered VM, since I think he's probably the best rock/pop/R&B/soul/blues singers ever (or at least one of the best ever). IMO he is right up there with Dylan, Lennon/McCartney, and Wilson for being one of the alltime great singers and songwriters. He is just such a unique performer. He has often been credited as the founder of punk and garage rock (Them) and then amazingly fused celtic, rock, blues, folk, country, r&b, and jazz to make some of the best albums of the 70s. He is still putting out solid albums. Magic Time was a good release.

If you're a young'un into Van, be sure to check out a little Delbert McClinton. A great vocalist, with a wonderful command of the blues. And add Nick Lowe to the list. Condemned by many because all they ever heard is "Cruel To Be Kind". He's the Jesus of Cool.
GobbleDog 1,001 Posted May 9, 2006 The King of Ragtime? He's not an unknown or underrated. Well he was unknown to me until I heard about him and his haunted house on NPR. Then I went and downloaded all his music. Good composer.
