Zarqawi -dead-

Recommended Posts

Who is going to find them? Think about the history and training of Zarqawi. He is irreplacable. Sure somebody could take over his role, but with limited knowledge and little organization.

Al-Qaeda IS limited knowledge and little organization. That's what makes them so tough to stop--they're really not very tightly affiliated at all. Think Mary Kay--you get the supplies and the pep talk, but the job you do is up to you.

It is always good to have hope. But remember, the capture of Saddam, the death of his sons, were all supposed to slow things down too, and look how well that turned out. It's hard to imagine this not helping though.

They said they dropped two 500-pound bombs on his house. I'm just surprised there is anything left of the bastard.

actually, getting saddam and killing his sons help slow saddam and his sons from killing people. the main gas-on-the-fire in iraq isn't coming from saddam's homies.

So they get to keep the pink Uzis?

The cunning part was luring him into the Dateline NBC house with promises of wild sex with an underage camel.

Somewhere, in another plane of existance, 70 men are raping this assbag's assh0le.

Are the men virgins?

If they are, they won't be for long.

I know. And it's hard to tell how much has been coming from Zarqawi's homies as well. The Sunnis and the Shiites still hate each other. We'll see if Zarqawi's death will help change anything. I'm just saying it's hard to be overly optimistic when the past has proven that things don't always get better when we're told they will.

true enough--unfortunately, if you haven't noticed, the hip death in Iraq these days isn't via suicide bomber OR IED attack...it's by abduction and execution. And THAT, as you say, is an entirely internal situation (ie, non-al-Qaeda).

I thought it was still car bombs?

Exactly, that is why time in, contacts, experience plays such a huge role. No one can replace Zarqawi, not even close. And anyone who tries to fill his shoes will certainly not have the foundation to build anything up like he did.

Nope, it's ethnic retaliations. Read the papers from Sunday and Monday. Several incidents that are generally indicative of the huge numbers of deaths that are occurring lately--people literally being just pulled off of buses and executed.

i never said this would make it all magically better. just clarifying that saddam and his sons are no longer killing people.

Your response to my point that there's little top-down influence is to say, "exactly, that's why cutting off the top is such an important step?" :headbanger:

And are you aware that many in the intelligence community (for what that's worth these days) are still unclear on the extent to which Zarqawi actually directed many of the larger operations in Iraq?

Here it comes, the playing down of elimination of Zarqawi. Really only a matter of time I guess. BTW I read the blog, it appears that while people differ in his effect, they pretty much agree it was significant.

another angle for you, torrid: do you think he deserved to die? not asking what impact this will have.

You are out of your mind dude, the main threat is IEDs, just as it has been, and it will be. Thats our focus, and to say otherwise is complete garbage. Sucks that some people got their heads cut off, but there is definitely a focus on finding IEDs, there are hell of lot more of them as opposed to crazys with big knives.

How it works. The left will say this doesn't change anything, the right will ride it as proof of 'death throes' straight through the election.

From your link

In describing terrorist activity in Iraq in late 2004 and the key role of Islamist groups, the US State Department assessed that as of 2004 Abu Musab Zarqawi and his Jamaat al-Tawhid wal Jihad organization had emerged to play a leading role in terrorist activities inside Iraq

Bush is starting to scare me. He warns us that this is a great but single step in moving forward, AND he declares that "deportation just ain't gonna work?" Maybe he should have stopped listening to Cheney a long time ago...

What the hell does one have to do with the other?

I didn't say it wasn't significant; I said it's still unclear as to the extent of his direct involvement in foreign-terror activities.

You're right that it was only a matter of time--the President beat me to the punch by a few hours.

You need to keep up a little better. I'm not talking about terrorist kidnappings for ransom or publicity. I'm talking about sectarian revenge killings, thousands of them since the year began.

The main threat to US soldiers is IED's. But the main threat to life right now is being executed by the ethnic group you're not a part of (Sunni or Shia, respectively).

another angle for you, torrid: do you think he deserved to die? not asking what impact this will have.

Nobody deserves to die, no. Can his death be justified and beneficial? Yes.
