Your personal favorite...

Recommended Posts

Was just listening to the radio the other day and i forgot how much i love the guitar solo in "killer queen" by queen. I know there are the old stand-bys like freebird and stairway, but man brian may sure makes the guitar sing, short but sweet solo...

what are some of your personal favorites?

Guest Black Label Society

Dreams by Van Halen is some of Eddies best work.

It's got all of his signature work in, and it's not contrived, but well written, yet spontaneous.

Actually alot of his work on 5150 is downright kickass.

The guitar solo at the end of Hotel California. Seemingly simple, yet evocative.

Layla. Stairway to Heaven. Anything by Jimi Hendrix.

Dire Straights - Sultans of Swing

Eagles - Hotel California

Santana - Europa (the whole song is basically a guitar solo)

SRV - Texas Flood

Elvin Bishop - Fooled Around and Fell in Love

Allman Brothers - Statesboro Blues

Guns 'n Roses - Sweet Child

Alice in Chains - Man in the Box

Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck - People Get Ready

Ozzy - See You on the Other Side

Frampton - Do You Feel Like We Do

Pink Floyd - The Wall and Comfortably Numb

Robert Plant - Big Log (who played guitar on that anyway?)

and of course...

Jimi Hendrix - VooDoo Chile

Sylvia - Jan Akkerman (Focus)

The Messiah Will Come Again - Roy Buchanan

Cause We've Ended As Lovers - Jeff Beck

Daydream - Robin Trower

Cortez the Killer - Neil Young

Cliffs of Dover - Eric Johnson

Most anything by Blackmore

And I hate to admit it but Prince did a screamin' job on While My Guitar Gently Weeps at George Harrison's induction into the RnR HOF.

I dont know about the "Best", and I dont know if this technically qualifies as a guitar solo, but my favorite is Kirk Hammett in the song "master of puppets".... the best intro to a song I've ever heard, and he keeps it up the whole song. A++ job. :ninja:

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb was the first to pop into my head. I can close my eyes and listen to David Gilmour play the last 2 minutes of that song all day long.

U.F.O.'s M.Schenker on "Rock Bottom"

Ding! Been my favorite (8 minute long) solo since I was a pup. There have been some excellent ones mentioned as well. Europa was vintage Santana. While I prefer SATO, Mr. Crowley was among Rhodes finest work. Eyes of a Stranger and Speak both stand out.

Probably #2 to Rock Bottom for me is "Something's Coming our Way" by Frank Marino off the What's Next album. The song is about his race car and is just an excuse to jam.

Appreciate the good word, BiPolar. Good to be able to show up!

Jeff Beck's another favorite of mine. Really enjoy his version of the Beatle's 'She's A Woman'.
