Homer Mock Draft - ** DISCUSSION THREAD **

Recommended Posts

Heh, there's only one trade up I'd like to see. :wall:

Wont happen though. The only probable trades I'd really want done are just like last year; trade up for a second 1st rounder. When it's all said and done, I wouldn't be upset at all as long as we take defense in the first round.

Here's to the NFC West. :pointstosky:

Too early for Beason there, with Posluszny and Timmons still there...

In light of the HOU/ATL trade for Schaub which includes the 2 teams swapping 1st rounders (8 <--> 10), I wonder if chris dub would have taken Brown or Quinn at the 8 spot for ATL or stuck with Landry who he got at 10 originally.

ETA: Houstors 2nd round pick goes to ATL now too.

That's why I was lobbying for the mock to start 1/26 :ninja: :D

Yeah, but now we get an extra level of speculation. With trades happening in the middle of the fraft :dunno:

ETA: Surprised Beason went at 20. I read the Pats had him in for a look, but my guess is that is was for the 28th pick :dunno:

21st.......Ginn Jr to Denver

The only reason I think this is even remotely a decent pick is for Ginn's return capabilities. That said, I think this would be a horrible pick for Denver. They can get by just fine with what they have on their roster and should be picking defense in the 1st. Seems to me you can find a decent return guy later in the draft.

I think getting Ginn at 21 is pretty good value, but I agree with JB, not sure how he fits in DEN, given their need for an outside pass rush.

I knew these criticisms would come. But Denver's #1 need now is for a return man. Last year, Shanahan resorted to using Rod Smith when Darrent Williams wasn't back there. Ginn is simply the best value at 21.

I would have loved to have taken Carriker at 21 but the way mocks are going, I don't see him being there. The options at DE were the kid from Purdue and Johnson from Georgia. Neither one seems like an every down DE. They're both undersized (unlike Carriker). Denver drafted Dumerville last year and as a pass rushing specialist, he racked up 8 1/2 sacks. I don't see either of those guys unseating him in that role.

The other player I was thinking about here was Griffin out of Texas. Denver needs to get younger at safety, as Lynch and Ferguson are both over 30. But, word is that Foxworth may get moved to safety.

I went with who I felt was the best player that could make the biggest impact for this team. Denver is definitely not the fastest offensive team out there and Ginn can't do anything but help.

The major reason I grabbed him was his return ability, obviously. A major, MAJOR void that Denver has not yet addressed.

value or no value Ted doesn't fullfill a need for a team that just signed stokely for a year and still has javon walker. (I will admit the return issue, but to spend the first round draft mainly for a special teams need. I'd probably gave gone for the safety.)

Even the adrian peterson (not filling a true need) pick was better because of how edge performed last year. Though a draft at improving the oline for the running game could have helped more.

Good breakdown CH. As I said I agree with the value of Ginn at 21, and in a year or two I could see him opposite Walker (when Rod retires). I guess I just have a higher opinion of some of the DEs on the board, that's all

Any comments on my Buff. pick of Lynch, RB?

No

Dallas Cowboys, Pick 1.22

I considered basically three players here (Due to players still being available I won't mention the others), but eventually the decision was to go with Safety Michael Griffin of Texas. Here's why:

Dallas' offense is in OK shape at the skill positions with Romo, JJ, Barber, T.O., Glenn, Witten and Fasano. Yes, they could get younger at WR, but there is depth there in this draft. The O-line got some help this offseason with the signing of Leonard Davis, but Dallas could use help at Guard if it decides not to put Davis at guard, which has been discussed. Dallas also now needs a backup center, but it's way too early to consider that there.

On defense, Dallas has solid defensive ends, but could use an upgrade, youth at nose tackle to pressure the QB more. Dallas has built a solid LB crew that hopefully gets better this year with Bobby Carpenter getting more playing time.

Dallas' big problem at the end of last season was pass coverage, especially deep and over the middle. Roy Williams is a good strong safety, but he needs help in pass coverage. Dallas had to use a combination of players, including rookie Pat Watkins, at free safety last year. By bringing in Griffin, he alleviates some pressure off Williams and allow for Tony Parrish to either leave or move back to cornerback.

Now, if Dallas signs Ken Hamlin here soon, as could happen, then the Cowboys probably will look elsewhere with this pick, probably nose tackle or wide receiver.

Any comments on my Buff. pick of Lynch, RB?

The pick makes sense to me. It's a huge need now with McGahee in Buffalo, but it will be interesting to see what happens if Buffalo should happen to get Michael Turner in a trade from San Diego.

The one knock on Lynch could be he is going too high at No. 11, but Buffalo's hands could be tied here with Green Bay picking at 16 and possibly looking to move up should it feel the need to jump the Bills to land that RB.

1.22 Michael Griffin, S, Texas

Solid choice for the Cowboys. Pretty good in coverage which is what they need.

Sure.

I don't like it. I think Buffalo could get by either with what they've got on the roster, or picking up Chris Brown or trading to SD for Mike Turner.

I think you should have gone either Leon Hall or Patrick Willis here. Those positions are some of Buffalo's biggest needs and both of these guys look solid. You could have taken either one.

I would have chosen differently. Am I dead to you now too?

Buffalo took Whitner 8th and McCargo what, 25th last year? I don't think they really give a crap about taking players "too early"...

But I like the Lynch pick. I think he's a pretty good, explosive back.

patriotsfatboy1 and I were happy to get Pozluszny at 1.24, nothing earthshattering here, sort of an as expected pick. With Bruschi having lost something after his stroke and getting another year older, ILB is a top need for the Pats. Pozluszny also brings versatility to the LB corp having played both inside and outside LB at PSU in the 3-4 and 4-3 allignments. And we all know how much the Pats like versatile players.

I'll add more after our 1.28 pick.

I thought this was a great pick up for the Pats. Not the steal of the draft, but I think he is an excellent addition and fills a big need for them. As you mention, his versatility fits the scheme.

I want to pick with the assumption that the Raiders will be picking up David Carr with their 5th round pick.

A great pick for the Pats. I'm not sure they'll be so fortunate in real life though. :(

Where the hell is kilroy? Knocking a shack over in his back yard again?

I have a feeling the NFL might make it through the first two rounds before we ever do.

This link still has New England in the 60 spot, and I assume the order is up-to-date, since the Atlanta-Houston picks are included. <_<

If I'm not mistaken that's the pick NE sent to MIA in the Welker trade. I don't think it was a conditional pick of any kind.
