cmh6476 1,185 Posted October 2, 2007 It seems to me that sometimes I feel I am in a different culture or hang with a different group that some of the others that post here. I mean most people I know or hang out with drink. But yet there seems to be this crowd that can go months and months without drinking a drop, and those people really don't get the people that drink on a weekly basis, for whatever reason. I guess my dad was like that, he never drank. if he did maybe it was just a couple 3 times a year, and I never ever saw him drunk. But I don't see drinking as a bad thing, just something a lot of us partake in. Going to concerts, going to Chiefs games, playing cards on the weekend, hanging out at friends' houses, to me those events just wouldn't be the same if you weren't drinking. Maybe I'm weird (or an alcoholic)
SigEp316 0 Posted October 2, 2007 drinking, like everything else, is fine when done in moderation. I think most will agree on that.
DuckStupid 40 Posted October 2, 2007 I drink almost every day, but it's usually no more than 2-3 64 ounce mugs of whisky & water.
cmh6476 1,185 Posted October 2, 2007 I don't get that sense from a lot of people that post here And what's moderation? is me going to my in-laws on a friday night and putting down a 6-pack drinking in moderation? Or do some consider only having one or two drinks being moderation? I know sometimes I drink more than my fair share of moderation, be it at chiefs games or concerts or whatnot. but those are always special circumstances, I don't just sit around the house and put down an 18-pack. So I know I'm not perfect, but I don't see the problem with getting schnockered every once in awhile, as long as you got all your other priorities in line
kutulu 1,727 Posted October 2, 2007 I just drink to make the pain and suckiness go away.

Snoopy1 0 Posted October 2, 2007 well if my friends aren't drinking, it has never stopped me from being the first to pop a top Me either, I've been the first to open up the jack quite a few times. I would guess though, if your friends are drinking you are drinking at a considerably higher percentage then me.
SigEp316 0 Posted October 2, 2007 And what's moderation? I think if you're getting drunk on a monthly basis or more...I'd say you probably weren't using moderation. binge drinking is not moderation.
cmh6476 1,185 Posted October 2, 2007 Me either, I've been the first to open up the jack quite a few times. I would guess though, if your friends are drinking you are drinking at a considerably higher percentage then me. I like to drink. Back around '01 I quit for like 6 months, maybe a little longer. My boss at the restaurant I worked at had some heart problems and had to quit smoking, and I told her I'd quit drinking. I would go to the bars and stuff and drink pop and play pool, it really didn't bother me. So if you think I have to drink because I see other people drink, then I think you are wrong. I just enjoy putting a few down though

I said getting drunk...I drink on a weekly basis. Saturday Night Beaver 2 Posted October 2, 2007 I drink on Sunday when I got to the bar to watch the games. Sometimes will drink on Friday, if I go out to the bar. I don't drink at home, maybe a glass of wine with dinner, but that is rare. I drink beer, some weak shots (SoCo and Lime, crap like that) I do not drink at all Mon-Thurs. I will only go to happy hour if I am off the next day. Everything in moderation.

I know going in when I'm going to get drunk. When I got to a Chiefs game, I'm going to get drunk. Except Sunday because my throat hurts When I go to see Sammy Hagar next month, I'll probably get drunk. Sometimes though on Friday nights I get drunk without that intention, they just go down easier than I was anticipating. I usually don't drink just a couple around the house though, if I drink then I'm usually drinking maybe I do need to call Mrs. Ford

Brad GLuckman 519 Posted October 2, 2007 Drinking isn't a big deal if it doesn't affect any of the important aspects of your life. If it starts affecting your job, family, etc. then you may have a problem. Igo to Happy hour every Friday with friends I've had for 15 years. Usually we'll keep drinking and eventually stay out till 2 a.m. and get pretty much blackout drunk. Depending on how I recover on Saturday I'll do it again, and occasionally on Sunday's. Every Monday I'm early to work, and I never take a day off. Maybe it's where I grew up or something...but this is a pretty normal lifestyle for people in their mid 20's-30's. wiffleball 4,799 Posted October 2, 2007 I think what some of the Mormons amongs us don't necessarily 'get' is that it ain't always about the beverage. Some folks just like to chill before they go home to a nagging wife and screaming kids - or empty apartment. Whether you get together with coworkers, or buddies, or chat up someone at the bar, or - just stare at the TV while decompressing for the day, it can be a beneficial, even cathartic, ritual. I think a lot of wives would be better served if they 'allowed' their husbands a hour or so at the local pub before coming home - at least a few nights a week. Something to ease the transition between a hellacious day at work and Mrs. Wife greeeting you at the door with the news that Sally flushed her teddy bear down the toilet again. In short, it ain't necessarily about the buzz or the drunk for everyone all of the time (except me). They equate drinking with drunk and start with the . But for respsonsible adult drinkers (not me), they can have 3-5 beers, chill and then move on with the rest the night.

kutulu 1,727 Posted October 2, 2007 I like to drink till I can hardly see and then try to have sloppy drunken sex with the wife or whoever. It's just the way of my generation. Bingo for me as well. Most of the time, it's really light on Friday night, sometimes heavier depending on if we have a party to go to. It also depends on who I am out with. College buddies and I tend to drink more. Wife's friends from work, tend to drink less. But then again, I have no problem sitting at the house on a Sunday, by myself, watching football and going through a 12 pack, starting at 11 or so and going until 8 or 9 pm. Some people like to drink. Some people don't. Some people look at drinking as a way to relax and some look at it as a crutch to escape. Some people would frown on drinking a bottle of wine in one sitting while some people think that is acceptable. It's just like anything else. If you think you have a problem, you probably do but no one will be able to answer that question until you are ready to answer it yourself.

Riddlen 1 Posted October 2, 2007 drinking is fine short of drunkeness and becomes less acceptable as you have the children. Thats my main issue, get trashed all you (the imperial you, not YOU) want as longs as you dont drive home and dont have kids at home. If you have kids and you decide to get a sitter or grandma or whoever for the OCCASIONAL night thats fine too. GEtting hammered weekly or more when you have kids at home is wrong IMO. supermike80 2,181 Posted October 3, 2007 I consider myself a fairly functional alcoholic. I have a couple Jack and waters daily and I enjoy them. I don't gte drunk, I barely get a buzz. But i like the taste of Whiskey. I will have a few beers on the weekends occasionally. Bout it. I feel my drinking does not affect any part of my life.
