MontanaOvahBrady 0 Posted March 23, 2008 Went to PF Changs with a group of friends tonight, it was my first time in there because I never got the temptation to eat expensive chinese food, and I tell you, I will never go back there again. Selling average Chinese food at expensive prices? Who the hell do they think they are? Seriously, mongolian beef, my favorite dish was 15 dollars. And it tasted worst than the one that I get for 7 dollars at my favorite chinese place. Mixing chinese sauces and calling it their own special sauce? Who the hell do they think they are? Its every sauce you can find at any chinese place...mixed together, wow, how creative. Can anyone explain PF Changs to me?

Bier Meister 1,522 Posted March 23, 2008 i guess everything is relative. i grew up in SF and am pretty hard to please when it comes to chinese food. i was pretty disappointed when i moved to colorado. chang's is ok for a franchise, but isn't as good as all of those little mom-n-pop restaurants i have come to know (at half the $$). IGotWorms 3,366 Posted March 23, 2008 Yeah that place sucks ass. The food is just OK, and with 2 people and a couple of drinks you end up shelling out $50. Screw that.
Rattlesnake 0 Posted March 23, 2008 Never heard of the place. Chinese food

Hurricane Ditka 0 Posted March 23, 2008 It is one of my favorite places to eat and get a couple drinks. I usually get the roasted duck. And some lettuce wraps.

Bah, give me a local chinese restaurant that is clean and run by actual chinese(or ones that look like them, i couldn't tell a chinese from a vietnamese anyway) and I will go there everytime. Chains are ruining it for the lcoal business man, this is just another example IMO.
Lionsjunkie 1 Posted March 23, 2008 Absolutley love the place....solid food at a decent price...may be slightly over-priced but very nice restaurants (for a chain) with a nice ambiance.

The Moz 69 Posted March 24, 2008 Silly fock The extra price is to not worry that you are really eating Mongolian Kitty or Mongolian dog ! IMO the extra money is worth it on that basis alone ! ETA: I actually like the more American chinese places as everytime I go to Chinatown and eat " authentic " chinese food It takes me like 20 minutes to chew a tiny strip of beef that in the back of my mind was meowing a few hours before. PF Chi-Changs > the corner chinese take out place
Cruzer 1,993 Posted March 24, 2008 yea, i was pretty disappointed the first time i went too. i mean, it was "alright" but from all the rave & hype being tossed around - i was practically expecting martin yan to prepare my meal. it's obvious you're paying for the atmosphere - which is fantastic i'll admit. but their little sister pei wei is just as good, if not better for 1/2 the price. we have a PFC 2 blocks away from the office - i walk right past it to this place instead. wiffleball 4,659 Posted March 24, 2008 I've never been overly dissappointed, but have only been a few times. I guess one of the things you pay for is the perception at least that you're eating quality ingredients. Let's face it, a lot of M&P's serve some pretty questionable meat. At least at PFC, I can tell what kind of meat (white chick breast meat) is in my dish. Yes, overpriced. To be sure. But as with most chains, you pay for a certain level of comfort over say, cutting edge flavors. PFC is the Applebees of Chinese food.

jerryskids 5,273 Posted March 24, 2008 The "PF" is for Paul Fleming, whom I'm pretty sure lives here in AZ. So I feel a little defensive about his restaurants. That being said, I think PF Changs is OK to Good, since you are paying for quality ingredients, ambiance, hottie clientele, etc., and it is not ridiculously expensive. Of his other restaurants that I know: Z Tejas -- outstanding. Southwest influence, great food at acceptable prices. Fleming's -- excellent. High end steaks and ambiance, but you pay for it. Pei Wei's -- meh. Leveraging the PF Chang's franchise; cheap chinese but more expensive than cheap chinese. Interestingly, I find that I don't like any of his restaurants for business meetings; the acoustics in general are not good, and it is difficult to have a good conversation. kilroy69 1,014 Posted March 24, 2008 Silly fockThe extra price is to not worry that you are really eating Mongolian Kitty or Mongolian dog ! I could care less if it is cat or dog. As long as it tastes like Sesame Chicken its all good.
supermike80 1,314 Posted March 25, 2008 Since when does paying more guarantee quality? Come on. I can buy the atmosphere and if you feel justified paying for that, then good for you. But paying more $$ for some unwritten promise of better quality is foolish IMO. There are certainly some M&P's that are not up to standards, just as there are some that are clean and good. I go to the ones that are clean and good. Paying more is no guarantee.

This can be true for dates as well. I once took a woman to PF Chang and we got seated out in the middle (damn booths were all full). I swear we each only heard maybe half of what the other person said. I should consider myself fortunate though, as it later turned out that she wasn't that interesting anyway. Hurricane Ditka 0 Posted March 25, 2008 Well you can all stick a finger in it. I like PF Changs. Best appetizers happy hour in the world. And back in the Cali days, you couldn't believe the high class well dressed fake boobed chicks that would hang there. Never had a bad meal there once. Yea, I would say it would be a good pre-bar destination. A few appetizers, a few drinks. But for dinner, I still say hell nah.

But in general, sure high prices and quality may not be synonymous, but the incidence tends to be better in my experience.
