He doesn't ######, he doesn't complain when he gets hit, he goes out there and plays his ass off every Sunday, practices every day. "So, no, we don't question his toughness." Bears coach Lovie Smith said there was no hesitation to pull Cutler after officials determined his knee was too sore to play. He appeared to grow agitated by repeated questions about Cutler's status. "He hurt his knee, and he was out," Smith said. "There's nothing else for me to tell you on that." The Packers earned a berth in the Super Bowl with the 21-14 win. Before exiting, Cutler was 6-for-14 for 80 yards with an INT. He was sacked twice. Cutler could not identify on which play he was hurt, and said he hoped surgery would not be needed. He said it was a "lonely feeling" sitting on the bench in the second half while first Todd Collins and then Hanie replaced him. Asked if he was disappointed when the decision to lift him was made, Cutler said, "I knew that it was probably better that I didn't." In the video, Cutler says he would have kept playing, and they made the decision.

Joey Gladstone 33 Posted January 24, 2011 I wouldnt accept anything less then a doctor confirming that there is a torn ligament. The team can put whatever spin they want on it, and lets face it, with how much they gave up for the guy and how much he's making they pretty much HAVE to spin it. A guy like Caleb Hanie wishes he had half the talent as Cutler. I've never seen a player who's achieved nothing act like such a cocky, arrogant doosh. His career highlight is beating an 8-9 playoff team at home.

listen2me 23 1,952 Posted January 24, 2011 I think it is telling when a few guys say they wouldn't be standing on the sideline if they even had a sprained MCL/ACL. That there tells me at least that Cutler couldn't of been in as much pain as guys usually are. Perhaps he is hurt. But plenty of guys have played through injury. Maybe the staff just didn't want him in anymore and encouraged him to sit...or stand.

bjsteel 34 Posted January 24, 2011 "Maybe the staff just didn't want him in anymore and encouraged him to sit...or stand." This is what I think probably happened, assuming Cutler doesn't have serious knee injury. This gives the lame coaches an excuse and saves face for anohter year! The fact they had Collins as the backup to Cutler kind of screws them IMO. And putting Hanie in when they did, which made sure niether Cutler not Collins would be allowed to come back in, speaks volumes to these coaching clowns ability. He was surprised, actually, that Cutler stayed in the game and even more stunned when he came out for the third quarter. "It was shaking right after he took the hit and walked back into the huddle," Kreutz said. "It was swinging. I knew that one of his ligaments probably went." The whole team is going to have to spin this in favor of Cutler. We'll have to see the reports mid week, but they are going to have to be serious for CHI fans to open their arms for him again. The Moz 71 Posted January 24, 2011 See Ronnie Lott woulda cut his cut his leg off and kept playing dammit. Seriously though if he was on the sidelines with no doctor and looking bored it is sad he came out. Hurt or not he was better than any back up and should of tough'd it out. He didn't even looked pissed and in Chicago people hate this guy right now. Not sure he would of made any difference though.
The Moz 71 Posted January 24, 2011 Rivers played 2 games with a torn ACL in the playoffs. Andrew Bynum played the entire NBA finals with a shredded knee Only player I know recently to take himself out due to a weak knee injury is the great LT2
chroniciguana 13 Posted January 24, 2011 You tear an ACL or MCL, you ain't standing up. You sprain an ACL or MCL, you ain't standing up. You sure as hell don't climb on a bike. The story will eventually come out, but this one is strange.
swamp dog 0 Posted January 24, 2011 So was Jeff George for that matter. bingo. to what extent cutler's critics are being fair or unfair is a matter of debate, but on the other hand...why is he treated with such contempt (even before yesterday)? it seems people have a lower opinion of him as a person than even guys like rapistberger or vick. why is that? is it because where's there's some smoke there's fire? in examining my own criticisms of him, i do equate him to being jeff george. there's just a weird, negative vibe that surrounds this guy. you get the feeling that not everyone on his team would charge up the hill with him or for him...know what i mean? i know he looks goofey-ass and blank-faced standing there on the sidelines...just like george used to look. kinda like he wasn't even there mentally but somewhere else at his happy place. and if your knee is majorly focked up...why stand on it the entire focking game on the sidelines? i dunno...the whole thing is bizarre. kmbryant09 1 Posted January 24, 2011 Anyone else find it kinda ironic, that MJD sat out Week 17 - a mustwin game for the Jaguars, because of a bad knee?? I know, the circumstances were much different, and I ain't question MJD, but just kidna strange that he'd take a shot at a guy for missing time because of a knee. You're sitting down. Chicago will spin this the best they can, but it's embarrasing.

enis_44 0 Posted January 24, 2011 Except for Phillip Rivers playing a playoff game with a completely torn ACL. That's possible depending on when the injury happened, which I can't remember in this specific case. Was the injury the same game that he stayed in, or was it earlier, like the week before and the swelling had a chance to go down?? The first option is superhuman. The second option is completely believable.

I thought he partially tore it just before the playoffs, and had arthroscopic surgery on his knee, and played 2 weeks later?? I very well could be wrong, I don't remember too well. But either way, I've had 2 arthroscopic knee surgeries: One kept me out 6 weeks, the other got infected and turned into a 9 month rehab...so props to Rivers for being able to play thru all that. Jarvis Basnight 119 Posted January 24, 2011 The only reason people are making a big deal about this is because of Cutler's attitude in the past and how he carries himself. Players and media types need to all settle down. Cutler would have definitely played if he could. Typical overreaction.

He got hurt and came out the game. Do all these other players and media folks know exactly how hurt he was? The answer is no. Instead of talking about the 3rd string QB, or the GB defense, or whatever, everybody is talking about this topic.
