Game of Thrones (no spoilers)

Recommended Posts

It would be nice when all is said and done, if they go back and do some prequels to GOT

I think it would be cool to see how Robert took the throne...how the Targareans took over Westeros..course George Martin writes so slow, I'll just be happy if he finishes the series.

Depends on 2 things

A. If they catch up to the books - this is the likely scenario - as they could show the rise of the Iron Throne , the Mad King, Etc. -- much like they did with Spartacus when Andy Whitfield was dying (the main actor) - they created Gods of the Arena as a filler so they could find a replacement.

B. If the show continues to be the #1 HBO series like Saprano's was all the way through - they could milk it for additional. Also the writer might actually do it if the rest of the books (6 & 7 ) are mega hits also.

Jon Snow's parents are probably Lyanna Stark and Prince Rhaegar Targaryen---in the books Ned finds Lyanna(after she'd been with Rhaegar for a year) in the tower of Joy and she makes him promise something, probably...hey take care of this baby and raise it as your own. Remember it was open season on Targaryen kids that day.

Yes... that is what I'm referring to.

Actually, I think I remember reading somewhere that HBO has commissioned a GOT prequel. It might be based off the Dunk and Egg novellas.

Well you said the books hadn't referred to it...I think they're have been a few hints...least that's how I read them. Anyway  last night was pretty dang cool, great season so far.

I will say Jon Snow is one of the main Characters if not the main one.. So anything is possible in regards to him...

Since he's dead by the end of book 5, I would say that some things aren't quite possible.

Hey Catleyn came back ... :dunno:

I have the book at home, and he took a world-class ass beating, and was probably dying(think the book said stabbed 4 times), but dead, beyond a shadow of a doubt. I'm not sure, unlike Rob who at the end of book 3 was all they way dead.

Jon is also a warg, so he could have gone into his direwolf. I don't think Martin would kill him off completely. Mainly because of the spoiler we already discussed. But hey... Lyanna is dead. Ned is dead. and Rheagor is dead... There's only one person left who knows the whole truth of that story, and I'm not sure if it will come back around to him. But I still think Jon is too important to be dead.

Well Rob definitely dead as they described at the Red Wedding - but Catleyn was also till she wasn't :) . I don't think the author kills him off as he is the glue that ties everything together - to kill him off would make it difficult to write books 6 and 7. It would also mess up my ending of Dani and Snow - King and Queen somehow happening at the end with it being revealed both have dragon blood.

So last night's episode, "And Now His Watch Is Ended" is one of the best GOT has to offer so far. Great, GREAT Episode.

Having only read Book 1 - I do struggle to keep up but here's my breakdown of it all:

Night's Watch / Craster

OK - just not sure why we've had to put up with Craster so long? It make me suspect that The Lord Commander is somehow in on Craster's evil and lunacy? Why let this one man continue like this for so long?

Theon

What? I'm pretty lost here. Who's working for who? Who did Theon kill - Starks or Farm kids pretending to be Starks?

Jaimie - former "Hand" of the King

I think I'll get Mrs. TD a Pandora Hand Charm! Someone in this thread hinted a Jaimie making up the "Sapphires" story to save Brynn - good call - another "obvious" but "entertaining" arc playing out. Best like was Brynn's though, paraphrasing: "You get one tase of the real world where thing are taken away from you every day and you cry like a girl? Eat or you'll die. Stop your crying"

Margaery / Sansa

Poor Sansa, constantly a pawn completely frightened and alone, not knowing who to turn to or if there will ever be a friend or confidant. Is Margaery it? I want it to be so, but I am skeptical. I like Margaery but maybe only because she's "winning" against Joffrey and Cersei.

Varys

An American Hero - started with nothing. Kicked around and abused. But worked, waited, worked and climbed. And now he has his tormentor in a box, mouth sewed shut. [tyrion] I Like Varys [/tyrion]

VArys continues to be involved in some of the best dialogue:

Lady Olenna to Varys "You here to seduce me? What happens when the non-existent bumps against the decrepit?

Varys to Olena, RE: Littlefinger, "He would see this country burn if he could be king of the ashes."

Tyrion / Podrick

Not sure why this whole Podrick "The Love Master" angle is so important. I'm thinking it's to bolster Tyrion - it's Tyrion's way of re-paying Podrick for saving his life, "A Lannister Always Pays His Debts". Tyrion paid those girls to create the Legend of Podrick and this kid just got a gift that no money can every buy: every woman in the World wants to sleep with him now. It just makes me like Tyrion even more (and so, answers the question of why it's so important).

Arya / Brotherhood

First time I've noticed the Brotherhood and "Lord of Light" referenced together. So are they part of Red Witch's Church? Cuz' see, I like them and their cause and all - but this Lord of Light stuff is a bit wack-o. Is this like teh Muslims of Westeros? Some good, some radical and you just don't know what you'll get?

Dany

What a great scene. What a great culmination of everything we've waded thru in the Dany story line. She is the new Ned - that one character that is honorable, likeable, and bad ass. Scares me really, because it only sets up to see her die just like Ned did.

No question, I saw this whole thing coming - or rather HOPED this whole thing would happen. Maybe that's the genius of Thrones, it rarely pans out this good so when it does, you enjoy it even more.

I guess I would have like to witness a bit more of the Slave Army and Dragon crushing the bad guys, the quick cut to the end with smoke and ashes made it easy to understand what happened.

Well we've already seen Bran&Rickon, so we know that he didn't kill them. Now we find out who he did kill, if you spaced out during that 45 second bit about the foster kids/Master Luwin/Bran bit from some time in season 2.

Minor Spoiler/maybe:

The people who have Theon, really like to torture people...and that was a pretty good mind fock. You're FREE...ummm not so much!!!!

yeah - who was hanged and burned in season 2? Wasn't it some Farm Kids?

But did Theon know it wasn't Starks but hanged them anyway and pretended just to look like a conqueror?

And he admitted to his false liberator that he never killed the Starks? He admitted that it was foster kids or farm kids or whatever? And after getting that info, they brought him back for more torture?

It was a neighboring farmer's kids. Yes, Theon knew... he knew he wouldn't be taken seriously if the people at Winterfell had known he was bested by a couple of kids. And yes... he just admitted that to his captor.

He got to the farm in season 2, no Bran & Rickon, so he burns the 2 kids there, so he can bring them back to Winterfell and say to all the people who live there, "this is what happens when you fock with me". Theon said in his confession last night, the one guy killed the farm boys, the other guy burned them, so he was there, probably was his plan.

The Night's Watch has been able to use Craster's Keep as a pseudo outpost for their rangerings in the past, and Craster hates the Wildings and Mance Rayder. It's a 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' kind of deal. Why do we continue to tolerate Saudi Arabia? Also, Mormont is an honorable guy, and one of the most dishonorable acts in the world of Westeros is to attack someone under their own roof after breaking bread with them. So he kept his guys in line as long as he could.

One of the best lines of the episode, around the funeral pyre "I never knew Bannon could smell so good."

flaming sword.

OK - yeah, I kinda' remember that - not sure if it was from reading Book 1 or Season 1 or 2 but I do remember the fire sword.

Reminded me - Where is the Comet? Remember the Comet in the sky? Wasn't it part of the whole Fire God angle? Or at lease everyone was making it part of their theology/predictions. What happened to the comet?

Right - but Craster is one guy? Why couldn't they just off him and post one Crow there instead? Not trying to be difficult here parrot, just don't quite get it.

Craster is enemies with Wildlings, and Mance. But Wildlings never over take him?

Craster "feeds" White Walkers? So do White Walkers "protect" him?

Why can't he just simply be offed and replaced by 10 Crows? 20 Crows?

Maybe the books explain better.

And thanks, I didn't understand the whole, "Break Bread Under Roof" custom. Explains the Lord Commander a bit better, in a Ned Stark kinda' way/mentality.

I'm not sure anyone knew how Craster managed to do just what he did, in managing to keep any of the different factions from taking him out. I guess that would be part of the risk in trying to send anyone else, even a sizeable garrison, in there to take his place. There may have been a more complete explanation in the book, but it's been a couple years since I read. That's just what I could remember off the top of my head.

fixed but I don't think the New Testament is even 500 pages let alone 2K. And actually the New Testament was formed in like 300 AD as the official religious text of Rome. If your talking about the entire Bible (Old and New) I still don't think it is 2000 pages (maybe like 12-1500) If you go back to the flood I would say it spans an easy 5000 years if you take the bible literally which most people don't.

My take personally, is because he is South of the Wall...and as long as he isn't a threat to the 7 Kingdoms, they basically let him be. It's not their job to judge-just protect the wall.

Even as book readers were not sure what the results of him feeding his sons to the Others, are. It is only implied that he believes he will be safe from them when the time comes.

Varys is my new favorite character thanks to that scene. I like how even Tyrion was visibly shaken by that, and he's usually a pretty cool customer. Also, got to give him credit for really driving home is point about patience.

Only read if you really want a huge spoiler

Tyrion is clever but patient maybe not - as he kills his father Tywin because he lied to him about his first wife being a ######

then again that was likely his only chance

The guest right is a sacred law of hospitality. When a guest, be he common born or noble, eats the food and drinks the drink off a host's table beneath the host's roof, the guest right is invoked. Bread and salt are the traditional provisions.

When invoked, neither the guest can harm his host nor the host harm his guest for the length of the guest's stay. For either to do so would be to break a sacred covenant that is believed to invoke the wrath of the Gods both old and new. Both the teachings of the Old Gods and the Faith of the Seven hold to this. Even robber lords and wreckers are bound by the ancient laws of hospitality.

If you notice what Thoros is wearing it has a bit of red in it right?

The worship of R'hllor is a religious tradition on the continent of Essos, but has not gained much popularity in Westeros.

Varys is a great character, and the actor is doing a fantastic job. My only problem with this week was Ros explaining the importance of the two feather beds to him. Varys would have seen immediately what that meant. He's the one who explains sh!t like that to other people, not vice versa.

Maybe he was just testing her...

The guy playing Tywin is another one not getting a ton of recognition but just nailing the role. The role doesn't require a ton of range, but be's exactly how I envisioned Tywin. The scene with Cersei was excellent.

"If I would start a war for that lecherous little stump..." :D
