cmh6476 1,010 Posted September 18, 2011 One game and everyone is already writing them off. They just came unprepared last week, and probably didn't go through training camp as they should have (as the rest of the league did) and it obviously showed. I also think the Bills are going to be better than most people think, and feel they could surprise people this year. Do I think the Chiefs will make the playoffs? Probably not, simply because their schedule is rough and I still think this team is young and growing. But I do think they will rebound and start showing they have some playmakers on this team. I think this will be another tough test this week, simply because you have undersized Casey Weigmann at Center and basically a rookie LG trying to block the best DT in the league, but I think you will see a team that comes much more prepared and showing more signs of a professional caliber team. Justin Houston is now the man at LB opposite Hali so I'm thinking our LB corps will grow and become formidable by the end of the season. I think we have two of the best corners in the league in Carr and Flowers. The loss of Berry obviously hurts, and the real question remains can the 3 down linemen plug gaps and put pressure on the QB. This really might be the right time to buy low on players like Bowe and Charles, especially if you see another down performance against the Lions. This team is still one of the youngest in the league, Haley will only put up with garbage play-calling for so long before he takes the reins, and the Chiefs IMO aren't the doormat everyone seems to be writing them off as already. We'll see, and most just assume I'm always going to be a homer but I just think the team is better than most assume at this point.
Axe Elf 0 Posted September 18, 2011 Buying low isn't all it's cracked up to be, especially when you end up selling lower. It's not just one week, it's been all preseason too. Coach Haley was so concerned that he played the starters well into the second half of the final preseason game--and lost his best TE and took a severe blow to his QB because of it (which is why most coaches only play the starters for one series in the final preseason game). Being willing to risk that, just to give the team a chance to look like something other than the Keystone Cops, doesn't inspire faith that Week 1 was just an aberration. In other news, a busload of special needs children got lost while touring Arrowhead stadium in the preseason, and by the time they were found, they had the Chiefs down 17-3. I'm light at RB this week and could use a special sleeper.
jgcrawfish 232 Posted September 18, 2011 Hugh Jardon. I have many, many jokes for this...most will get me bannored!
Kingstowne Dealers 14 Posted September 18, 2011 Haley will only put up with garbage play-calling for so long before he takes the reins, God forbid Haley take over the play calling. Then you're really screwed
Axe Elf 0 Posted September 18, 2011 You get Hugh Jardon doubling at a wide receiver and a tight end and you're really screwed. Better off sending him right up the middle.

cmh6476 1,010 Posted September 18, 2011 Geez- what a clusterfuck. with all things considered, i think the chiefs have looked like the better team in the first half. They are running on the Lions at will and just haven't converted third downs and missed the opportunity with the FG. That first damn TD drive for the Lions was primarily given to them on penalties, stupid penalites. Suh hasn't been much of a factor at all as the Chiefs have had success running up the gut and Cassel has had time to throw.
Matt Mueller 146 Posted September 18, 2011 Was never high on the Chiefs. Didn't draft any and warned others to stay away. Included Charles/Bowe in my busts on the prediction thread.
swamp dog 0 Posted September 18, 2011 they've moved the ball pretty effectively here in the first half against the lions. only 3 points to show for it so far, though. if a team gets kicked the balls at home they usually will respond with a better effort the following week. swamp dog 0 Posted September 18, 2011 how about another gratis first down lionesses? it's not like the lions haven't shot themselves in the foot, too. stafford had about 100 yards in passing called back in the first half because of boneheaded penalties by the lions. RoadLizard 73 Posted November 1, 2011 Are they somehow better off without Charles? Seems crazy.... but who knows? They apparently have a defense that can keep them in games. And, they are in a division that clearly has NO monster team so the Chiefs making the playoffs is now a very high probability. Whodathunkit?
Laurence Maroney's Nuts 2 Posted November 1, 2011 As a degen gambler, I'm just hoping the Chefs handle their business at home the next two weeks against more cupcake opponents, so that I can get a soft line on the Pats in week 11. Hopefully, the Pats will be coming off a L to the Jets coming in to that game...

To think after losing Charles, Moeaki and Eric Berry and getting schilacked (sp?) the first two weeks as bad as they did and then to have rebounded and played as well as they have the last 4 weeks really seems to be an accomplishment. This team is young and only going to continue to get better. All things considered I still think Cassel is still the weakest link. Our O-Line has played very well the last couple weeks and played their best game in a long time (for the Chiefs as a whole) against the Raiders. With Bowe, Breaston and now Baldwin coming into the mix I think we have one of the strongest receiving corps we have had in a long, long, long time. Add in playmakers out of the backfield like Charles and McCluster and then Moeaki at TE and this should be one of the most explosive offenses in the league. Our young secondary is playing well, as are our LBs. We could still use some pass rush up front but overall the D is getting the job done. If we had a top tier QB this group would be a perreniel playoff team for the next several years. The future is bright for our beloved Chiefs. Too bad we're stuck with a broke-d!ck QB that's somewhat holding us back for the time being.

Indy and Vikings (enough said), Oakland (no QB) and a split with San Diego, who's impressing nobody. Against the 2 decent teams they played, they got shelled. They'll win the next 2 to get to 6-3, but then all hell will probably break loose with the Patriots, Steelers, Bears, Jets and Packers all in a row. That's easily a 1-4 stretch. That being said, they may still sneak into the playoffs by virtue of them being evenly matched with San Diego and the Raiders. All I know is that I'm at the point where I'm rooting for all the AFC teams to start beating up on each other for a possible Bengals wildcard.

Yeah don't get me wrong, there is certainly room for improvement. Primarily with the QB, lack of pass rush and right now lack of a running game. Thomas Jones, Jackie Battle and Dexter McCluster are suppossed to scare anybody? When Charles went down it was a huge blow to the offense but a year under Baldwin's belt and then having Moeaki and Charles back next year should help. I really like this secondary, Derrick Johnson is having a great year and rookie OLB Justin Houston has shown flashes. I don't know if you saw Jon McGraw trying to cover Gates last night or not but McGraw shouldn't even be on the field. Getting Berry back next year is going to make the secondary even better but they have to find somebody that can get to the QB. There's still a few pieces missing, but much like Cincy some of the pieces are finally falling into place with some of the young players. They still have a ways to go before they can compete with the better teams in the league week in and week out, but I think they are getting close.

JT 137 Posted November 7, 2011 They're the very definition of "average", in a lousy division. Nothing appreciably different than last year. Just a more difficult schedule.
KSB2424 3,148 Posted November 7, 2011 The KC Chiefs can go pound sand. I thought they were a halfway decent football team. A team playing against the freaking Dolphins with Reggie Bush and Matt Moore. So I started Jakie Battle over Willis McGahee and picked up the KC Defense and started them. Lesson learned. KC sucks big fat donkey balls. Period, end of discussion.
