kutulu 1,659 Posted November 7, 2011 What's the early reviews? Any good. Looked kind of dumb to me, but it is on AMC which has a pretty good track record the last few years.

OldMaid 2,129 Posted November 7, 2011 Not even close... There will never be another character as great as Al Swearengen or Seth Bullock ever again.
edjr 6,578 Posted November 7, 2011 Not even close... There will never be another character as great as Al Swearengen or Seth Bullock ever again. When the 2 interacted it was magic. Swidgen did fine on his own, but Bullock needed Swidgen to be great.
Savage Beast 1 Posted November 8, 2011 Not even close... There will never be another character as great as Al Swearengen or Seth Bullock ever again. But Hell On Wheels has more action then Deadwood, so that's a plus in my book. But the cast of Deadwood is miles ahead of Hell On Wheels so far.

Voltaire 5,203 Posted November 9, 2011 Hell on Wheels is the nickname for 2nd Armor Division, it was Patton's division in WWII and the one I ran around the desert with during Smart Bush's war in 1991. We wore the unit patch above our hearts, not on the shoulder sleeve like every other unit. I see it's also a TV series. Dude shouldn't get bent out of shape over his wife being killed. Since all the men have been wiped out, you have prime choice of a whole generation of desperate hotties available to choose from. Rhett Butler was always a step or two ahead of the game, he clearly had that figured out.
edjr 6,578 Posted November 9, 2011 Deadwood no commercials. HOW can't compete with this either.
parrot 789 Posted November 9, 2011 The Hell on Wheels pilot it available online at AMC. I could never put it above DeadWood after a single episode, but it looks pretty solid. Though they should have just gotten Al Swearengin to play the railroad baron.
OldMaid 2,129 Posted November 9, 2011 When the 2 interacted it was magic. Swidgen did fine on his own, but Bullock needed Swidgen to be great. I don't agree with this. But then again I Timothy Olyphant.
IGotWorms 4,057 Posted November 10, 2011 I don't agree with this. But then again I Timothy Olyphant. He wasn't that good without Swearingen. Remember that whole thing he had with the widow? It was the only storyline ever in Deadwood that was actually painful to watch. Reason is her character (the widow) sucked and Bullock wasn't good enough to pull her up by himself like Swearingen could do.
shotsup 832 Posted November 10, 2011 I liked Hell on Wheels and I can't wait to see what he was looking at at the end of the show - won't issue any spoilers !
kutulu 1,659 Posted November 10, 2011 Al's best scenes were with Mr. Wu.

kutulu 1,659 Posted November 13, 2011 Deadwood was awesome. Hell on Wheels seems pretty good based on the first episode.

TimmySmith 2,782 Posted July 30, 2021 Deadwood is #1 for me. So I will certainly check out HoW.

I agree that story line sucked, but not as bad as any scene with calamity Jane. That may have been the most obnoxious character of all time.

Cruzer 1,995 Posted July 31, 2021 A buddy of mine told me this. In fact, he bought me the CD set, but have yet to watch it. Would have to be really damn spectacular to beat Deadwood though.
