Self Defense Killing in Florida...Geeks got an opinion?

Recommended Posts

I read a few articles last night that said what Zimmerman's (former) lawyers did yesterday would probably speed up the process and probably lead to an arrest, even if it was premature. They said that typically the prosecutors count on the lawyers' assuring them that the person in question is not a flight risk and they know where they are and are willing to cooperate.

His lawyers yesterday made it sound like he was a loose cannon and they implied they weren't sure where he was.

I'm curious what the charges will be. Manslaughter? Second Degree Murder?

I'm more curious to see if they are charging him with being white. :o

I think that's why the attorneys held that weird press conference. They didn't want to be stuck holding the bag if Zimmerman took off or did something else crazy.

His lawyers did him a disservice by publically making him seem like a loose cannon... They did this for their own fame and publicity...

He should add them to NBC, new black panthers in his future civil lawsuit list...

My guess is that he'll be facing a few different levels of charges. Then it'll be up to the jury as to how (and if) to convict him. Like that BART cop a couple years ago who shot the guy instead tazing him, and got 2 years in jail.

It's interesting, because what those attorneys did could well be a violation of the rules of professional conduct. Usually when you withdraw from representing somebody, you do so in a way as to not prejudice the person at all. You don't call a national news conference and say that your client is acting super sketchy.

I read it from one of CNN's legal experts. I didn't come up with that on my own.

http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2012/04/10/zimmerman-lawyer-press-conference/

"I think they are obviously concerned about his well-being, but they are also, I think, potentially setting him up for an earlier arrest than they might have, because one of the reasons a prosecutor doesn't arrest someone right away is that the prosecutor is assured by the counsel that, 'Look, he'll surrender. He's not going anywhere,' " Toobin said. "At this point the lawyers don't know what he's doing, don't know where he is, and the prosecutor may say, ‘Look, I’d better arrest this person or he's going to be in the wind.’

That whole "press conference" was just bizarre. I can't even imagine what their motives were.

I read their statements as "We're not saying he's a flight risk, but he may totally be a flight risk" HINT HINT

Why would the say that in a press conference though and not just have a conversation with the prosecutor. Unless Zimmerman had told them to eff off and they just wanted their 15 minutes.

Given the fact he is now giving super secret reports to Sean Hannity apparently, it wouldn't surprise me if he is getting linked up with a more powerful legal team through Hannity or others looking to use this to score political points against Obama...

This might prompt Zimm to dump his ragtag team and simply refer to them as 'advisors' while the Hannity led OJ defense team gets put together...

My best guess, but who the hell knows..

My point is that I listened to the whole thing live. And they stated on several occiasions that he was not a flight risk. Yet the media and now you are 'reading' into their statements that he is, and its a reason why the lawyers bailed. It's contradictory.

The thing is weird but to 'read into' something that goes against a direct statement from the people you are 'reading into' about is just plain dumb.

The lawyers STATED the reason they bailed was NOT because he was flight risk.

Lawrence O'Donnell was convinced that this press conference was PROOF that Zimmerman is guilty... He had 3 black commentators that were also convinced...

Whatever.

I was simply stating something I read about from a guy who knows a hell of a lot more about these situations than I do. After reading that last night, and now it appears Zimmerman is going to be charged today, I found it interesting.

But apparently we aren't allowed to talk about anything we see on the news anymore. We all have to play interwebs lawyers behind our computers and come to our own conclusions.

People have gone full retard about this case. Any little clue they turn into some 'proof' to validate what they want to happen. It's mind numbing.

The mutherfocking lawyers ...direct quote.... said "We do not belive George Zimmerman to be a flight risk". Yet some media that Nikki reads is reading into the press conference that a reason the laywer left was because he was a filght risk.

This stroy has made normally sane people go full retard.

That's probably the most likely scenario. I posted that above too that Zimmerman may have shiit-canned them and is looking for a better defense team (these weren't exactly the creme de la creme of homicide defense teams), and they wanted to get their faces on TV before they were done. :dunno:

Lawrence O'Donnell

Speaking of this guy. I really thought the most annoying and partisan guy's on television were Sean Hannity and Keith Olberman (back in the day). I was wrong. Lawrence O'Donnell takes the cake. He beats both of them. If Rush Limbaugh was on TV every night only he might rival this clown.

The world needs more Peirs Morgans, Bill O'Reilly's, Greta Van Susteran, and Michael Smerconish's than jackholes like O'Donnell and Hannity.

They wanted to distance themselves publicly so there wouldn't be a backlash against them if Zimmerman took off? It's the only thing I can think of, but it sure would be risky given the ethical implications.

His lawyers said they can't find him, he isn't in Florida, and they are concerned about his mental well-being. That clearly screams flight risk, even if they made sure to throw in a disclaimer that they weren't really saying that.

This is probably all academic anyway because I fully expect that Zimmerman will turn himself in when it's all said and done.

Florida special prosecutor Angela Corey plans to announce as early as Wednesday afternoon that she is charging neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in the shooting of Trayvon Martin, according to a law enforcement official close to the investigation.

It was not immediately clear what charge Zimmerman will face.

In custody? No way.

Dude is on the lamb. I read here he may be going to Brazil. That's why his lawyers quit.

If they're going for Murder 2, I'll agree with all the people here that have been saying we don't know all the facts yet. They must have a lot more than what has been released to the public.

Does anyone know if in Florida a jury can find him guilty of a lesser crime (say manslaughter), or is Murder 2 an all or nothing charge?

After reading some stuff about this Angela Corey... now I'm not so sure that they have a rock solid case for Murder 2. She is known as an extremely aggressive prosecutor.

Read this story about her prosecuting a 12 year old boy for First Degree Murder AS AN ADULT because he pushed his brother who hit his head and died (he also died 6 hours later after the mom didn't take him to the hospital for 5 hours). :shocking:

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/12/05/still-no-plea-deal-for-12-year-old-murder-suspect-in-florida/

As for whether he could be found guilty of a lesser charge, I believe that only happens if the prosecutor leaves that option open. A lawyer will have to respond to that.

Prosecutors went for too much of a crime when Casey Anthony was on trial, also in Florida.

This only delays the eventual riots.
