***Official Presidential Debate thread - Part II****

Recommended Posts

He definitely won. Not as big as Romney won the first one, but he definitely won. Right wingers who can't admit that are out of touch. Just like they were when they said Ryan won.

I will say Barry came off better than Romney did on TV and that Romney was more agressive than he should have been. Romney missed on several things where he could of won it on TV but he missed. I do though think Romney came up with several very good TV ads to run on Libya and Oil Permits.

Stepping in to provide cover for Obama's lies about his Rose Garden speech wasn't the role of the moderator.

Don't worry, I'm sure Politifactcheck.dem will set us all straight.

Surprisingly, the mood on Fox News seems to be that Obama won thus far.

Well you have to acknowledge that, or you lose all credibility. Kinda like those few liberals who tried to insist Obama won the first debate. A spade is a spade.

The Frank Luntz focus group has a lot of Obama voters switching to Romney after the dabate.

I am not a total right wing person infact even voted Obama in 08. I have been seeing alot of 50/50 on this debate by the public and focus groups- which I admit I thought most would be saying Obama flat out won. I think he did alot better and even won but I think Romney came out of it with the most ammo.

Initial thought is that it seemed pretty even to me.

I may be out of touch though.

I love Luntz and his numbers, but that segment seemed a bit contrived.

Romney and the RNC have a good amount of commercial material to use. That will last longer than anyone's initial impression of this debate.

You know what could end up being a big part of this debate is that Romney effectively got silenced on Benghazi. What's he going to bring to the third debate on foreign policy? That was his whole line of attack right there. I guess he'd better come up with stuff on Iran, quick.

There's plenty on Libya. He should have hammered Obama on this tonight. I'm sure he didn't expect Obama to lie, and the moderator to back up his lie. It kind of threw him off. I'm sure he'll be more prepared for that tactic in the next debate.

You basically right it was even -- Barry was better on TV and won the actual debate (mostly becasue Romney missed a huge oppurtunity on Libya) but Romney walks away like I said before with more ammo. BUT it does force Romney to adjust his strategy and start spending heavy on Ads before he wanted to to either match or eclipse Barry

On behalf of hoytdwow, donnahs, Newbie and a few others, I'm going to be the first to say that Obama absolutely crushed Romney in this debate. He was more forceful, he called Romney out immediately on all of his obvious lies and he made up all the ground he lost in the first debate, and more. This election is now over, Romney's only chance is if Obama gets hit by a bus and nobody wants to vote for Biden.

On behalf of RP, Little Rusty, drobeski, gocolts, budbro and others, I'm going to go ahead and call this debate a slam dunk victory for Romney. He continued his aggressive ways, he was very personable in the town hall format and he won over all of the independent, undecided voters. The election is now over and Romney has pulled so far ahead that the only way Obama can win is if he brings Bin Laden back to life and kills him with his bare hands.

Then there are MDC, IGotWorms, KBS and jerryskids and a couple of others. These are a few of the rare posters that will watch the debate and actually call it as it looks to them. These will really be the only comments worth reading in this thread.

No Slam Dunk.....but i'll settle for 65-35 Romney

There was a lot of spin in the first debate but I don't remember many, if any, flat out lies as I saw tonight. Sorry.

Howsabout Russia and Putin biotchslapping Obama by pulling out of a two decades old agreement to safeguard chemical and nuclear weapons?

Never underestimate the level of fayle Obama has to offer.

I agree that Crowley helped Obama. Not by a ton, but you could tell she was more comfortable telling Romney to STFU than Obama.

Obama just butchered his Benghazi answer. I thought he was about to be buried. Then Romney found a way to come out of it looking even worse. Yes, the fat moderator overstepped her bounds there and gave Obama a giant assist. But it was the most memorable moment of the night and it went against Romney.

I also thought it was a horrible move by Romney to go back to his China investments when that topic hadn't been talked about in 25 minutes. It seemed desperate.

Romney's best moment was hammering Obama on the promises he had come up short on with specific numbers.

I would say by not asking follow ups to Obama on Romney and making statements to help Obama (which wern't even true) while Romney was talking helped out a lot. But the Crowd was Liberal anyway and Barry took advantage.

Did I see that right :o CNN or CBS poll says 65 - 35 for ROMNEY ?????

In the long run, I think Crowley helping Obama out in the debate will hurt Obama more than it helps because it made it look like the President needed help.

Just curious, why do you think Obama butchered his Benghazi answer? I thought the only real problem is that he wasn't forceful enough in the beginning, but he ended very forcefully with that line about how the Commander In Chief DOES. NOT. DO. what Romney did re: trying to politicize a national security emergency. But I'm curious about your thoughts, because I know you're pretty middle of the road and try to look at this stuff objectively (I obviously have my biases, I admit).

CBS poll had Obama winning the debate. http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=50133279n

I think these snaps polls are BS anyway, unless it's a huge landslide like for the first debate. People need a little time to digest and reflect before we know the true impact. I think the instant poll had Ryan edging out Biden slightly in the VP debate, whereas the general consensus now seems to be that Biden got the upper hand or it was a draw at best.

If you're referring to the softballs such as those outlined in this article,

http://factcheck.org/2012/10/dubious-denver-debate-declarations/

then yeah I don't have as much of a problem with a little exaggeration. I'd prefer everything be perfectly accurate but there's nothing in that article, at least from Romney, that rises to the level of flat out lies Obama told tonight. Feel free to post your egregious lies from the first debate that I should be outraged about.

National security emergency? When did it become one of those

For two weeks it was just a protest over a youtube video. Now it's a national security emergency?

And we know Obama would NEVER politicize someone's death.

Felt for that Lorraine lady asking the immigration question. Romney: "Is it Lorraina...Loraine?" Lorraine: "Lorraine, yes. How are you doing, President?" .... .. Romney." :D Something I would do.

Also think Obama was a little confused when the guy named Kerry was next, scanning the crowd for a woman and some guy is starting to shuffle around.

Crowley NOW says she was wrong on her Libya remark to save her cred.

I will also say that On Libya Romney blew it!!!!! He had a big opening and allowed himself to be thrown by Obama's Rose Garden comment he totally missed a GIANT chance -- I think that was where he "lost" the debate and Crowley helped him.

So you just made up the "national security emergency" stuff.

I don't recall Obama ever using those words....or any of his minions.

Obama totally avoided the question that was asked. The question was something along the lines of "they repeatedly asked for more security as they were worried. Why didnt that happen?". Obama then gave a speech about finding whoever was responsible for the attack and hunting them down, then he ripped Romney for politicizing the incident. Yeah, those were great answers and I loved the passion, but they were great answers to a different question than the one asked.

But then Romney blew it even worse.
