Wasn't he referencing something there? He's never typed that much about anything, and that's most certainly not the way he talks.

Don't know what it was. Reservoir Dogs maybe?

Good Gawd, this bored is full of retards lately.

What about Hotel Maids?

Already mentioned.

My understanding is that you really should tip them if you stay multiple nights. I usually tip them though even if it's only one night (assuming the place was clean when I got there). It's a crummy job and I'm sure their wages are paltry.

Tip daily, assuming a service is provided. Then a bigger tip after your last night, because a more thorough cleaning is done when you leave.

Or don't have them come every day. Who the he!! needs new sheets/towels every day (besides Sux)?

You don't have much of a choice in most hotels. If you try to keep them from cleaning the room they go in anyway. They want to make sure you aren't trashing the place.

Not true. Leave the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door and call the front desk. Some high-end hotels even give you the option to opt out for $ - just stayed at one in Beaver Creek CO.

I just picked up a to go dinner at The Old Spaghetti Factory a few minutes ago.

Price: $11.59

My tip: $5.00

I may not be as rich as most of you focks, but I tip often and tip hard.

No problem with the tip, but what kind of white trash eats at OSF? Fock man, you can do better on your own for half the price at the grocery store. You realize that's a losing-ass chain, right?

It's the "Arby's" of Italian Food. :barf:

Yes, you tip at buffets: 10-15% depending on quality of service, in contrast to 15-25% at formal restaurants.

Do you have a link for this "fact"?

Do you have a link for this "fact"?

None of tipping etiquette is factual, but here we go: My link
Q: What is an appropriate tip for your server when you dine at a buffet restaurant?

-- Kari Harwanko, Downingtown, Penn.

A: The appropriate tip is 10%, says Peter Post, a director of the Emily Post Institute. That's less than the 15% to 20% you would tip a server during a typical restaurant meal because the buffet server isn't doing all the work involved in serving you, including bringing you your food. Still, he says, a tip is necessary because the server during a buffet is still generally providing some service such as clearing your plates, bringing water and taking drink orders. The tip also should always be calculated off the pretax amount regardless of whether you're dining at a buffet or a full service meal. "You don't want to pay a tip on the tax," says Mr. Post.

I tip a bit more because the extra 5% is inconsequential to me, but may make a difference to workers at buffets, as quite a few people don't tip at all...know anyone like that?

What if the dishes pile up on your table? Still tip the "expected" amount?

I tip based on service. And wait staff LOVE having me at their table. I tip very well if given proper service.

With that said - I really dislike tipping at all. I feel I am helping the owners pay their employees. It bugs me for some reason. :dunno:

I don't believe that you tip well with that attitude. My guess is you're one of those guys who thinks he's a real mensch for doing 10% IF there's nothing to complain about, when in actuality that's a pretty sh!tty tip. :dunno:

I re-use my dish at buffets. :dunno:

But lets say the service sucks in some other way. Then I tip 10 instead of 15%. If the server is rude, I tip nothing.

I agree the system is stupid, but don't lose much sleep over it. Would you prefer the food/drinks cost 20% more?

Valid point. I'll need to mull that over a bit first.

It seems just about every service inductry has the token tip bucket or jar awaiting someone to help pay the owners employees a "fair" wage.

I guess it is just a pet-peeve.

It must be a State Health Code law here in NC, but restaurantes demand you use a clean plate when going back to a buffet.

I always compare it to someone in sales, which I think there are more people who are/were in sales than a gratuity based job like Bartender/Serving(or so they would claim). You have a sh1tty base salary, but make the large majority of your money off of commission. If you sell someone whatever inventory you sell, the company makes money off the sale, and you get a certain percentage of the cost of the said inventory as your commission. Serving is the same exact way, except the customer pays you the commission rather than the company. This way the cost of your meal is considerably lower than it would be, and it gives the customer the freedom to tip base off of the service they have.

When you go into a restaurant where you are being served by a waiter, the restaurant ASSUMES that you will be tipping at least 10%, thus their base salary is usually less than half of minimum wage. That way the gratuity will make up for the rest of the wage, bringing it back to and over minimum.

I am sure that most of you tip well. But even sh1tty service should warrant a 10% tip, otherwise the server is essentially paying YOU to serve them. If you don't like it, don't go out to a restaurant to eat. If you can spend $20 on a meal, you can pay an extra $2-3 dollars. Again, if tipping wasn't customary/assumed, that meal would be $25-30 easy. So, just keep that in mind if you are a cheap SOB at restaurants.

It is in a lot of places, based on concern you'll spread cooties when a serving utensil touches your unwashed plate. It's more for show than anything, as the real culprit in transmission of foodborne illness is you unwashed hands - if they really were concerned you would be required to wash your hands each trip.

I just take it before the server can stop me. :ninja:

Nice

I did something similar a couple years ago. Brutally cold and snowing. If memory serves the bill was about $16. Gave the driver $30

She was very appreciative.
