2 words. Shane Halter.

I assume you are comparing JD Martinez to him? Let me throw a couple more names out there....Brennan Bosch and to a lesser degree, Chris Shelton.

The one thing working for Martinez is that he isn't some kid who is in his first big league stint and running hot until teams get tape on him. He had a few years experience (and he wasn't exactly awful), made some big changes to his swing and now is able to make contact more consistently. I don't expect him to go David Ortiz, but I think he should have a better shelf life than those other two.

Chase Headley traded to the Yankees...

I saw this couple hours ago, not newsworthy.

I'd rather listen to people stand on their soapboxes and talk about Tony Dungy

I don't know about that... His splits are much better away from Petco in his career:

Petco: .243/.331/.372

Away: .286/.360/.444 (in 120 more AB)

He is definitely on the watch list IMO...

Of course it would suck if you owned him in a NL-only league...

The Yankees have a -31 run differential, I don't care who they got.

Only 2 worse teams in the AL are Houston and Texas.

Why does the state of Texas suck at baseball?

John Lackey has been dealt to the #Cardinals as first reported by @JonHeymanCBS

Wow….@Pgammo reports Allen Craig and Joe Kelly for Lackey…..if so... that is a landslide win for Boston

Zero homers in 26 plate appearances in Fenway in his career...

kinda active trade deadline this year

Best trade deadline in sports...

Too bad they added the second wild card last year or there would be many more trades...

I don't get this one. Craig and Kelly are meh. Lackey is only due $500K next year. I'd of kept him.

Yep, wonder if that has ever happened?

Obviously I think most of us loved AJ, but he was a mediocre bat that went through torrid slumps, even though his defense certainly makes him an above average CF overall.

Jesus. If JV can find his game again, I think the ALCS is pretty much set.

Yes. many...many times over the years. If you make a trade and the person is in the game you pull him right away. You dont want a carefully crafted trade go down the drain because of a freak injury.

The royals are never going to put it all together. They are in too tough of a division.

Lackey had indicated that he would have threatened to retire instead of playing for $500k next season. He was not happy with the fire sale going on and would have been focusing on fried chicken and beer again. I think that Clay Bucholz will be playing that role for the rest of the season.

Sox needed some offense and that is why they made their deals.

Javier Baez on his way up... Will meet up with the Cubs in Denver...

The kid is going to strike out a lot, but when he gets a hold of one, he has power that's out of this world. His swing is controlled violence, was fun to see him and Bryant in the same lineup in Iowa. Baez swings hard with ultra quick hands, Bryant you can see was like a maestro guiding an orchestra. Very different approaches but same results
