he should have accepted 4 games?

My opinion never changed. He should have come clean immediately. (Yes, I know it was Super Bowl prep weeks). He would have saved his team two draft picks. And there never would have been a suspension. But yes, once the punishment was handed out and appealed, he should have accepted his four games. Harsh? Maybe. But cheating should be handled harshly. I'd like to think that's the league we all want. But now the pendulum has swung and Brady won, so Goodell is the one who needs to man up.

As far as appeal goes, I think goodell waits on that. He'll wait to hear from the owners and I would think there is a chance they tell him to put this behind him.

Agree completely, but will he, can he? I swear the ego is the determining factor, as crazy as it sounds. I think the other owners have had enough as well, and likely tell him to back down. Besides, strategically you know the Pats are going to keep cheating, he likely thinks he can get them later on something else, based on his previous conduct you have to believe he already has a plan in place to do so.

Meh, I think the cheating part was not the "thing" here, I think it was more the active effort to weasel out of that cheating that bought him the 4 games.

Just so we are clear what happened today.

The judges ruling is not about guilt or innocence. It is about the fact that Roger Goodell and the NFL over-stepped their bounds in regards to the severity of the punishment.

Roger has got to stop trying to make examples out of people and just making shit up as he goes. BUT we all know Tom was deflating footballs. But in reality it's not that big of a deal (as some have made it out to be) and the proper thing was for the NFL to give them a much lesser punishment.

This whole "If you do not cooperate with me I will drop the hammer" stuff has got to stop.

Part of it was about Brady's innocence. If you were following the case the judge is asking for the evidence the NFL has against Brady. When they provided it he comments "that's it?" He also states the "independent" Wells report isn't independent and also that there's nothing that shows Brady as guilty. If they did have evidence that did then he would have ruled in their favor. The people who claim "Brady still cheated this ruling proves nothing" are just fooling themselves.

The funny thing is that the Judge does not call it the "Wells Report". He calls is the "Wells/Pash Report".

I'm less clear than you. Technically you are correct, but....

The judge made it reasonably obvious during hearings that if he would have ruled Tom Brady not guilty, were that what he was allowed to rule on. Granted, a not guilty ruling doesn't mean innocence, but it's the closest thing we have to an innocence ruling.

But the judge was only allowed to rule on the process, so he did that as harshly as possible. I read the entire 40 pages. I would guess that if the judge thought Brady was guilty, he would have at least had 1 sentence in those 40 pages in which he admonishes Brady or the NFLPA at least a little bit.

Money quote;

Denied the opportunity to examine Pash at the arbitral hearing, Brady was prejudiced.

He was foreclosed from exploring, among other things, whether the Pash!Wells Investigation was

truly "independent," and how and why the NFL' s General Counsel came to edit a supposedly

independent investigation report.

Just saw where Goodell is planning on appealing the verdict to "protect the integrity of the game". Yea right bozo. Hes just pissed he lost and got smacked around by the judge

He has to appeal it, or else the NFL will be in court every time they discipline someone. That being said, I wish it would happen quick. It is now where I want to see Goodell get his ass handed to him on as many fronts as possible. Fockin fake bro huggin spoiled rich kid who never worked a hard day in his life.

Or....the league could just hand out penalties based on a legal and fair process.

The NFLPA has legit grounds to fight on Hardy, as the rules state it should have been a 2 game suspension, yet Hardy got 10 reduced to 4 (although I'm hoping Hardy doesn't appeal, and I say that as a Cowboys fan)....but the NFLPA isn't going to start fighting every punishment. Just be fair and legal.

In the end - what have we learned?

* Bob Kraft and his team are smarter than Goodell and his.

* Goodell is an out of control egomaniac who will go to any length to win a pissing match - this includes leaking false info, making policy up on his own and flat out lying.

* Collective Bargaining agreements and bylaws aren't worth the paper they're printed on. Big Brotha in a robe ultimately has the final say.

* Destroying evidence really does work. :D

Kraft isn't that smart, and it was the NFLPA that repped Brady.

100%. I think everyone knows that. The cheating is only part of the reason everyone hates the Patriots. It's their smugness and lack of contrition about it. They think they should be able to do what they want.

No different than when Brady was pissed that he lost. I was really hoping that Goodell would have just let it go at this point. I still am.

Not sure about Kraft being smarter. He still lost a million bucks and two draft picks.

I agree that Goodell is an egomaniac. He and Brady may be the two biggest in the game. There was bound to be a showdown.

Refusing to cooperate now seems to be the route to go. As long as there's no video, deny deny deny

Is anyone else worried about Sho Nuff? Despite how wrong he was about life, I still like the guy.

Once Newbie secretly realized he didn't have facts on his side and a ruling became imminent, at least he was wise enough to start hedging to such a point that he can still claim to be so sure Brady cheated that he is willing to sacrifice his own life if incorrect...and unless God informs us Brady was innocent, he can stand by it.

But poor Sho Nuff...he refused to hedge at all. He stuck with it and never opened the door for Brady winning.......And then this today, and he hasn't even logged on to the board. I'm worried about him.

What I think really happened:

1. The care and "protection" of game balls has been nearly irrelevant throughout the entire league. Refs and equipment people have been pretty care-free about measuring/checking/recording PSI.

And really, who can blame them - it ain't like you need a gauge to tell you if a ball is flat.

2. NE's footballs were over-inflated in the Jets game. Brady was not happy about it. He let the equipment guys know he likes them at the lower end, 12.5

3. The equipment guys were pissed at Brady. But fine, we still want a tip and free equipment (as is the case for all locker room guys) we'll deflate them for you. They were probably letting air our of the football whenever they had the chance. Even if it was after the ref checked the balls. They probably didn't think it was a big deal.

4. The Ideal Gas Law made the deflation even worse.

5. NFL Officials, who personally have issues with Belichick/NE, were over-zealous in their attempt to "catch" them.

6. Mort publishes the false report that 11 of 12 were 2lbs under.

7. Brady and Belichick are unprepared during their initial press conferences. They believe Mort's report must be true but they have no focking explanation for why/how.

8. The NFL proceeds down it's "independent" Gotcha', Guilty no matter what Path, and NE goes into defensive mode.

9. The NFL Leaks false/shocking headlines to sway public opinion. Goodell is seizing the opportuinty to show 31 owners that he is still an all-powerful commissioner, capable of keeping their work force in line, despite the Ray Rice and A.P. fiascos.

10. The whole thing goes to legal /tabloid/ headlines hell.

11. Brady wins. Goodell is a lying, manipulative ass whole who also isn't very good with labor law.

That all seems likely to me.

I imagine Brady got pisssed about how inflated the balls were after that Jets game and he told the ball boys that it better not happen again......They didn't want to feel his wrath or lose their jobs, so they decided to make damn sure it never happened again. Did they know they were breaking rules? Of course. But they were more afraid of Brady getting pisssed off again than they were of anything else.

And I bet that's the extent of Brady's involvement before the AFC title game. It just seems the simplest and most plausible scenario. But some can't believe that because it's not sexy or evil enough.

I don't think he knew or was really sure, at least for quite a while.

And simply throwing the equipment guys under the bus would be a terrible PR move.

Thing is Newbie, I don't think the equipment guys really thought they were out-of-bounds... sound like things are pretty "un-checked" there and that's the culture throughout the league.

Goodell's mistake was trying to push this to Murder One levels and suggest that Brady was part of some elaborate scheme to deflate footballs... he's just a QB that wants his equipment guys to get the balls the way he like them (as do all QBs).

Brady made ten calls to the one equipment guy in the 24 hours after this all came out. What were those calls about? He knew exactly what happened. In the teeny tiny chance he didn't order it and know beforehand, he sure as hell did after all those phone calls.

Newbie has said he is literally willing to die right now if Brady didn't order these guys to cheat. Therefore, he is dug in and can't even consider this post. And frankly, I am with him. I love my daughter too much to be willing to gamble on never seeing her again, but if was dumb enough to do so, I'm never admitting a defeat that would require me to kill myself.
