Spinoff: Name a stereotype...and make a comment.

Recommended Posts

I know not all of these may be exactly "stereotypes" but...by golly...they are just like them. Am I off base with these?

1.) Teen Drivers are worse drivers than 40-50 year old drivers - How come doesn't anyone cry foul or discrimination on this one? I mean...if you were gonna raise rates based on color...holy crap...you'd have a war started.

2.) Amish work all day. I dunno. Sure seems like it to me they work an awful lot. More than most.

3.) Women are the weaker sex. I dunno. Take a look around. Seems like it me. You say it, jeezuz...you might get slapped or boo'd. I don't get the problem with it. So what? Do people want to pretend women, as a whole are as physically strong as men?

4.) Whites are more likely to molest a kid. Watch any prison shows? News? Pretty obvious. If I say this am I a racist? I should be (even though stats say its correct).

5.) Blacks are more likely to steal, rob, burglarize, and commit violent crime. You say this...you're a racist? Why? I mean, what is the definition of racist? If the definition of racist, means, I've looked up stats, and made a comment based on actual live statistics and life experiences, then I guess that makes me one. Also, you can raise rates on auto insurance based on teen vs middle age, and life insurance policies on fat, old, ill people are more expensive. It's okay to base those things on statistics.

6.) Pitbulls are mean. Rottweilers are mean. Do you hear these terms thrown around about black labs? Why not?

6a.) Indians (dots) are brain and heart surgeons.

7.) Islams are more likely to be terrorists. This one..is like the rest....

As with all stereotypes, how did they become "stereotypes" ? Is it because one fella in some town of 400 people said it once?

By the time something becomes classified as a stereotype...there is a reason it became well known/spoken about enough to become a stereotype.

Is there a stereotype buzz going around that Tennis players beat their wives? Or that Amish people are lazy? Ever heard the term "Autistic Strength?" How about "Retard Strength"? If I tried really hard, could I get the term "Autistic Strength" to become a stereotype?

There is a reason for stereotypes...and that is...because they aren't.

Whenever any of this comes up in discussion...It always seems there is the one guy that blurts out "I have a pitbull and it isn't mean" or "my grandma smoked 3 packs a day her entire life and she lived to 94"

I understand there are good teen drivers, mean black labs, nice rottweilers.

So...what else ya got?

Indians that aren't doctors own gas stations, hotels and subway restaurants.

I think those are Pakistani's. Same accent as Indians, but not as intelligent. Neighbors to India.

Sterotyping is wrong Tubby. UNLESS you are sterotyping:

Republicans

Southerners

Christians

Those people are always in season to sterotype, degrade and make fun of. Everybody else is off limits, you have to treat with kid gloves and walk on egg shells.

Somebody get the vagisil - KSB's having another episode :(

Take out the Geek Club shenanigans we do here and I'm being truthful.

For whatever reason, what I said is the truth. It just is....maybe there are valid reasons or whatnot but its true. You can have a comedian standing in Times Square with a megaphone making stereotypical White / Redneck jokes all day long and people will laugh and not think twice. You get the same guy make a black joke and people get all uncomfortable and put their head down and walk away walking on egg shells.

I don't "care", its doesn't "bother" me, but its simply an observation. One rooted in truth.

Sterotyping is generally frowned upon. With a couple exceptions where its still okay...... :dunno:

Nah...my neighbors are Indian. They have a gas station and a subway.

Friend from college is Indian and his family owns a couple hotels.

Though...Id say there is a mix of that going on.

And not a stereotype...but almost 90% of Indians I have met have the last name Patel.

Yes, black comedians. And even they have toned it down

Chris Rock, Jerry Sienfield all have stopped doing college campuses for similar reasons.

Everything I said is the truth. And I don't "care" so there is nothing to get over. It's a simple observation.

We have an Indian customer who has acquired 4 stores/gas stations in less than 10 years. And still runs the first one almost solely by himself. While other Mom and Pops are going out of business, he's quietly building a thriving mini-empire. Incredibly driven. His name is Singh, which also seems really common.

Except for the customer part I could've typed this word for word about a Singh I know in Northwest Missouri.

In a recent interview on ESPN Radio with Colin Cowherd, Jerry Seinfeld discussed the growing trend of comedians avoiding college campuses for fear of backlash over political correctness.

“[The younger generation] just want to use these words,” Seinfeld said. “‘That’s racist, that’s sexist, that’s prejudice.’ They don’t even know what they’re talking about.”

The topic came up when Cowherd mentioned to Seinfeld that Conan O’Brien made a Caitlyn Jenner joke two days before her interview with Diane Sawyer. Cowherd believes that, had Conan done the joke two days later, he would have been labeled a “bigot.”

This led Cowherd to ask Seinfeld whether the climate is concerning, particularly on college campuses.

“I hear that all the time,” Seinfeld said. “I don’t play colleges, but I hear a lot of people tell me don’t go near colleges — they’re so PC (politically correct).”

Seinfeld proceeded to give an example.

“My wife says to [my 14-year-old daughter], ‘Well, you know, in the next couple of years, I think maybe you’re going to want to be hanging around the city more on the weekends, so you can see boys.’ And you know what my daughter says? She says, ‘That’s sexist.'”

Seinfeld isn’t the only comedian to point out potential issues with performing at college campuses. Cowherd also mentions that he’s spoken to Chris Rock and Larry the Cable Guy about their fears at performing at college campuses. Chris Rock gave an interview for New York where he discussed the topic.

“I stopped playing colleges, and the reason is because they’re way too conservative,” Rock said in the interview. “Not in their political views — not like they’re voting Republican — but in their social views and their willingness not to offend anybody. Kids raised on a culture of ‘We’re not going to keep score in the game because we don’t want anybody to lose.’ Or just ignoring race to a fault. You can’t say ‘the black kid over there.’ No, it’s ‘the guy with the red shoes.’ You can’t even be offensive on your way to being inoffensive.”

A classic stand up, Rock is so awesome. This video is hilarious because its more topic relevant today than it was in 1996. Wow he really says it here...he says what everyone is thinking today and this was only when the whole culture was getting off the ground and finding its legs.

Islams?

really

Is that worded wrong? Isn't "Islams" a group of those following the Islamic religion. Sort of like "Christians"?

Or should the term have been "Muslims" ??

They are the most profitable for the majority of comedians.

Perhaps...but not going to lose sleep over Rick and Seinfeld losing profits while other comedians continue to grind.
