But, he, like Trump is ignorant, and hides behind the same anti-intellectual veneer of being a "real American." But in Trump's case it's actually a very cynically contrived position meant to play up to the Flat-Earth™ wing of the party. He's not a conservative at all. His bombast gets press, end of story. If the libbies want him to disappear, press him on his stances, which are weak, instead of going chicken little when he says someone is on the rag. So I think he has no legitimate shot. But even aside from that, I am not sure a candidate with Bernie's views could work with Congress to effectively govern. Working with Congress and unfortunately charisma and stage presence is part of the job. I can't imagine this cranky old hard line progressive is going to get people behind his agenda. You have a point in the second paragraph, except I'm not sure any democratic president could work with Congress. The Republicans' sole plan for years has been to obstruct. They have no interest in working with a democratic president or in doing any sort of governaning at all. In fact I think one of Obummer's failures was to not see this sooner. The ACA could've gone a lot smoother if he realized from the get-go that Republicans never had any intention of cooperating or acting in a bipartisan fashion whatsoever. He lacks Obummer's political skill and has an agenda that's further out of step with mainstream politics. I like him in theory like I liked Ron Paul in theory. If your mother is American and your father is a foreigner and you were born in the US, well, you still need a birth certificate because we've been spreading rumors that you may have been born outside the US. And if it turns out that you really weren't born in the US, then we think you are ineligible to run for president. Now we realize that if Obummer really were born outside the US, then the situation becomes identical to Ted Cruz's, but under those circumstances, Ted Cruz can still legally run for president anyways whereas Barack Obummer cannot.
