Mungwater 597 Posted October 20, 2015 I don't mind it, but what I don't really like is the extra songs in the seventh inning stretch. Here they play take me out to the ballgame, then America the beautiful, then the whole "dee in the heart of Texas" song. Just play take me out to the ballgame and be done with it. Â On a similar note, could the Cubs please stop doing the celebrity conductor during the game? Just play a tape of Harry doing it and be done..

titans&bucs&bearsohmy! 2,745 Posted October 20, 2015 How do you feel about those who sit or leave their hats on while it's played? As you know, I am not uber patriotic. I am willing to question my country. In fact I think it is vital. That said, show some focking respect. Take off your god damn hat, stand the Fock up, put your focking phone away for two damn minutes and put your hand over your heart.  People died for you. Pay your respects.  American life more and more lacks the small little rituals that bind a people together.   ETA: every Monday morning, my school has a flag raising ceremony. The marching color guard raises the flag, all 4000 students and hundreds of staff salute and chant sh!t, very over the top commie patriotism.  I always feel weird being the only person out of 4,300 or so that doesn't salute or say a word. I am respectful. I just stand in the back and watch. But it's kind of like being an atheist in church. Even though I love it here, and plan on making this my long term home, I will never salute that flag. Honor the customs, yes. Dabble in the religion, sure. Salute the CCP flag? Never.  My American freedom loving core simply will not allow it. Work for them? Sure. Take their money? Sure. Follow thier rules? More or less, when it suits me.  But EVER allow myself to be seen saluting or chanting or honoring the government? Nope. Not gonna happen.  I won't criticize sh!t. Not my circus, not my monkeys. Don't care. But I won't participate either.  How do you feel about that volty?

Djgb13 2,339 Posted October 20, 2015 I'm glad it plays before every game. I wish every school played it every morning before getting started with class. We as Americans are losing our patriotism and more of us are starting to hate not only our government, but also our country. The men and women who died and are continuing to die for us are represented by that flag. Be proud. Because of a country ever did decide to attack and invade us we would stand together to protect our home. I may not agree with the government or politicians but I do love my country. So stand, take your hat off, salute if you want but show at least a little respect and a little patriotism

Voltaire 5,321 Posted October 20, 2015 How do you feel about that volty? I'm like you. I leave the patriotism stuff to the Chinese. I've never been forced to participate and I don't. Really, at this school, I don't even go outside to do the flag raising stuff. On Mondays, when I hear the Chinese national anthem is playing as they raise the flag, chances are I'll be sitting on my ass in front of this computer communicating with you fine people instead while also following along on fantasy implications of the MNF game. TD Ryan2 316 Posted October 20, 2015 sad state of affairs... people legitimately don't want the anthem played anymore.... wow. Â Lack of civility, respect, values, and tradition are big problems in our culture today - people are more self-centered and self-serving than ever... and it's destructive to our communities - locally, nationally, globally. Â The Anthem is a respectful, poignant reminder of how people with noble ideas and a strong sense of community fought for the greater good of everyone even when self-sacrifice was required. Our country, the world, and humanity in general is better off today because this. It's also a fantastic work of history and art from the first person recollections of the battle at fort McHenry to the poem itself and the music it was set to. Â Like it or not, humans are social creatures. We require family, relationships, connection, community and cooperation to survive and thrive. We need to be conscientious of history and we should encourage and preserve artistry. Bagging the anthem is taking a big dump on all of these: community, history, art., tradition, respect, civility, values, etc... it's just one more small step towards creating a society of self-centered, dis-respectful ass-wholes. frank 2,307 Posted October 20, 2015 If you truly believe in freedom, you would respect people's right to wear a hat or sit during the anthem. I personally stand quietly. If I saw someone sitting talking on the phone, I would think they were a doosh, but I would think the same about anyone who hasseled them about it.

Magnificent Bastard 191 Posted October 20, 2015 I changed my mind. Considering the criminals and drug addicts that play in these games, stop playing it all together. BudBro 183 Posted October 20, 2015 A flyover is necessary to finish the anthem at all professional and college football games. We went up to CSU last weekend to the Air Force game. Sold out. About 100 cheerleaders. Beer (which we don't have at AF). And no flyover. The ROTC shot off this obnoxious cannon at every opportunity instead. Â The point of standing for the anthem is an opportunity for the govt to exhibit its prowess and superior firepower. It builds rapport among the masses. It's the "finish" to the foreplay. We all love to see that we can glass a squirrel-turd country at our whim.

Magnificent Bastard 191 Posted October 20, 2015 At some point WW2 has to stop being used as justification for our Military and foreign policy blunders. The smell of success from that great endeavor can only cover up the stink since then for so long.
