That said, show some focking respect. Take off your god damn hat, stand the Fock up, put your focking phone away for two damn minutes and put your hand over your heart.

ETA: every Monday morning, my school has a flag raising ceremony. The marching color guard raises the flag, all 4000 students and hundreds of staff salute and chant sh!t, very over the top commie patriotism.

 

I always feel weird being the only person out of 4,300 or so that doesn't salute or say a word. I am respectful. I just stand in the back and watch. But it's kind of like being an atheist in church. Even though I love it here, and plan on making this my long term home, I will never salute that flag. Honor the customs, yes. Dabble in the religion, sure. Salute the CCP flag? Never.

 

My American freedom loving core simply will not allow it. Work for them? Sure. Take their money? Sure. Follow thier rules? More or less, when it suits me.

 

But EVER allow myself to be seen saluting or chanting or honoring the government? Nope. Not gonna happen.

I'm glad it plays before every game. I wish every school played it every morning before getting started with class. We as Americans are losing our patriotism and more of us are starting to hate not only our government, but also our country. The men and women who died and are continuing to die for us are represented by that flag. Be proud. Because of a country ever did decide to attack and invade us we would stand together to protect our home. I may not agree with the government or politicians but I do love my country. Our country, the world, and humanity in general is better off today because this. It's also a fantastic work of history and art from the first person recollections of the battle at fort McHenry to the poem itself and the music it was set to.

 

Like it or not, humans are social creatures. We require family, relationships, connection, community and cooperation to survive and thrive. We need to be conscientious of history and we should encourage and preserve artistry. Bagging the anthem is taking a big dump on all of these: community, history, art., tradition, respect, civility, values, etc... it's just one more small step towards creating a society of self-centered, dis-respectful ass-wholes.

A flyover is necessary to finish the anthem at all professional and college football games. We went up to CSU last weekend to the Air Force game. Sold out. About 100 cheerleaders. Beer (which we don't have at AF). And no flyover. The ROTC shot off this obnoxious cannon at every opportunity instead.

 

The point of standing for the anthem is an opportunity for the govt to exhibit its prowess and superior firepower. It builds rapport among the masses. It's the "finish" to the foreplay. We all love to see that we can glass a squirrel-turd country at our whim.
