I just don't buy that slippery slope. Any person should not and cannot under federal law be denied rights to a job or a loan or a scholarship or a restaurant or a etc. based on "who" they are. That would get struck down in Federal Court so fast it would make your head spin.

 

But this particular tangent issue seems different than that. I don't see this as discriminatory. But I'm telling you the shiit has hit the fan round here.

Just saw a tweet from a former female turned male who has a full beard, looks like a dude, he is now required to use the womens restroom. (Although how are they really going to enforce this bill?) How are women going to react when he walks into the restroom? Its kind of messed up either way.

Might have to do somewhat with the fact there is a little more to it than just transgender bathrooms.

 

In a span of 12 hours, the GOP political leadership of this state called the General Assembly back to Raleigh for a special session, introduced legislation written by leadership and not previously made available to members or the public, held "hearings" on that legislation, passed it through both chambers of the legislature, and it was signed by the GOP Governor.

 

The special legislation was called, ostensibly, to prevent an ordinance passed last month by the Charlotte City Council, from going into effect on April 1. That ordinance would have expanded the city's LGBT anti-discrimination ordinance, and would have allowed transgendered people to use public restrooms that corresponds with their gender identity.

 

But the legislation introduced and passed into law by the General Assembly yesterday didn't simply roll back that ordinance. It implemented a detailed state-wide regulation of public restrooms, and limited a person's use of those restrooms to only those restrooms that correspond with one's "biological sex," defined in the new state law as the sex identified on one's birth certificate. (So yes, by law in NC now, transgender porn star Buck Angel (look him up) will have to use the women's room...isn't that precisely what these lawmakers are actually wanting to prevent?).

 

But the legislation didn't stop there. It also expressly pre-empted all municipal and county ordinances or policies broader than the official state anti-discrimination statute, which does not include sexual orientation or gender identity among the list of prohibited bases of discrimination. So that effectively wipes out local LGBT anti-discrimination protections in numerous NC cities (and, ironically, wipes out the protection of discrimination based on "veterans status" in Greensboro and Orange County (Chapel Hill)).

 

But wait, there's more. The legislation also expressly states that there can be no statutory or common law private right of action to enforce the state's anti-discrimination statutes in the state courts. So if a NC resident is the victim of racial discrimination in housing or employment, for example, that person is now entirely barred from going to state court to get an injunction, or to get damages of any kind. The new law completely defangs the state's anti-discrimination statute, rendering it entirely unenforceable by the citizens of the state.

 

But wait, there's more! The legislation also prohibits municipalities and counties from passing a higher minimum wage than the State's. Not that any municipality or county had done that...but in case any of them were thinking about it, that's now prohibited, too.

You absolutely, positively can not allow grown men and grown women in locker rooms with kids or teens of the opposite sex. You have a ######=male gender. You have a vagina=female gender.

 

Transgender individuals at the most, should get their own restroom. If they can't, or don't get a transgender only style restroom, then they must use a restroom that matches their genitals.

What about hermaphrodites and those with ambiguous genitalia? Post-op transgender?

Exceptions and understanding for those born a certain way. I personally don't feel sex change operations should be allowed. Therapy should be made available for people who contemplate mutalating their bodies

I have an opinion but it's already been addressed above.

What my point is, I'd be interested in hearing a legitimate response by a transgender individual. AND what determines a transgender individual.

So, which Geek wants to admit it and give us their view.

I'm interested. Not trolling.

I'm not transgender, but I've taken care of a half dozen or so over the years. The individual determines with which gender they identify. Some take hormones to superficially resemble the opposite sex, and a small % go through with gender reassignment.

 

I don't know how they would feel about which restroom is appropriate, but I will say the transgenders I have met have all been pretty flamboyant males who felt like females. With a single exception they were pretty nutty, too.

Why are gheys and transgender groups lumped together? Sexual preference and Gender are two totally different things.

Most transgenders are males wanting to be females, who are sexually attracted to males. In effect, they are gay until their parts are swapped out.

 

Also, I think there is a segment of the gay community that doesn't want to be lumped in with them, as many perceive transgenders as pretty wacky.

Yeah if you knew every bearded looking tranny who was in the same bathroom as your daughter was originally a female, then sure its fine. You are missing the real issue completely. When this person walks into a restroom, how do you know he is originally a she? People are going to freak out. Is this person suppose to whip out their hooha to prove he is a woman? Its going to be impossible to tell who is who right away and make a rational decision about how to act.

I get the point. I understand the point. Still doesn't change their biological makeup. Until a sex change occurs, people should use restrooms based on genitals. Children and teenage/young adults shouldn't be exposed to the opposite sex in their restrooms/locker rooms.

 

Why can't transgender people use bathrooms that coincide with their genitals? Do we have a medical or scientific way to distinguish who's really a transgender and who's a perv? Why are we making laws to allow the opposite sex in bathrooms without a positive way to prove who's a transgender. Are we going to issue medical ID cards (like medical pot) to Transgenders?

 

Eta: Imo, this is one of those times where an estimated 0.5% of the US population doesn't get to dictate laws on the other 99.5% based on a psychological issue.
