Millennials, starting to feel bad for these kids

Recommended Posts

This new generation has their challenges, but most of that we can probably attribute to the helicopter parent of our generation...

Everywhere you turn you see an article or a news story on how bad/misguided these kids are. They said the same stuff about generation X, baby boomers, etc.. Even the greatest generation, yeah they won two wars, but couldn't anyone get along back then?

Instead of a pay for my college, I'd start a movement of go fvck yourself.

For every whiny little out there, I'd bet there are thirty who are good kids who don't want to be lumped in with the whiners

I don't know, we have a chick here who is educated, has a masters of taxation, is a professional tax person making good money, her husband is also a professional, and she is having a temper tantrum because her mother told her she doesn't want to watch her infant kid everyday anymore. It is like watching a four year old being told they can not have any candy. I want to slap the biotch.

Childcare probably means that she and her hubby need to sacrifice other areas of spending; fun stuff they can't do anymore, etc. and that's what she's pissed about.

Not with the money they make. Her husband bought her a $2,000 purse because she was so tramatized by her mother.

Spoiled bitchez are not a problem of a single generation. They have always existed.

I agree but her husband also fully believes that the mother is somehow screwing them.

This is kind of making my point....with childcare they possibly won't be able to buy purses that are $2k.

And that's just dumb, IMO. $2k on a purse? Jeesus.

More like it is below their standard to have their child go to daycare.

Starting in June, my child care cost is going to $1,900 a month...but that's for three kids. He may be able to swing a $1,000 purse a month if they only have to pay for one kid. Trying to look on the bright side for those poor peeps.

When we had two in childcare, one infant and one toddler, it was close to that as well. It wasn't until they didn't need before/after care that we could afford to move.

Second greatest generation of all time... theres more whining about millennials than the actual whining coming from millennials.

Have two nephews in their mid 20's. One is a civil engineer who paid for his school through the National Guard. No student loans, no debt, making borderline six figures in his 20's. He's got life by the balls. Other one had his own company in the North Dakota oil fields and was making money hand over fist until the bottom fell out. Sat around for a couple weeks, then got a job as a mechanic at a car dealership. Never heard any whining out of either.

They start off deep in debt both individually and as a nation that's not theirs. They've got beginner jobs that area taxed like mad to pay for old focks. For this same reason their health insurance costs are so high. Meanwhile the jobs are sh1ttier ones in the service industry.

I have a generational chip on my shoulder too but it's against the focking Boomers not the millennials. A generation that votes for LBJ in their youth and Deficit George in their old age is the problem. Everything was so good until their hippie asses came along and focked it all up.

And taking a pill to take the problems away, the suck it up factor is pretty low in both.

A big probkem with these millenials is that the threat of an ass kicking isn't something they have experienced, never mind a real one.

Lets be real, that doesn't necessarily mean they won't be successful human beings.

Maybe not, but it does affect their behavior.

I think that is fair. But those who have been beat down, literally and/or figuratively, tend to have the internal fight to stand up and move forward when knocked around. We can see that many in our society prefer to point fingers, cry, complain or protest rather than stand up and move forward. Thankfully, it diminishes the competitive pool for those of us inclined to persevere.

True, but there are also those who were beat down, and stayed beat down or suffered from some real emotional issues. Then they over-medicated themselves and are now living off the gov't dime.

In the end it is more about what drive was always inside you. Smart people will find a way to get that drive out no matter what.

Absolutely. Not everyone has the ability to compete, they simply lack that characteristic. We have convinced ourselves that we owe it to them to carry their weight, and so they live because of our ability and effort.

If anything, I think that society is moving towards accepting their behavior and demands on living. Companies are being more generous with millenials wanting that work/ life balance by offering flex work options, paternity time off, etc... I saw a headline on MSN referring to the cost that companies are paying to understand more about the way they live. Remember when a break room used to be where you grabbed a snack, ate lunch, drank coffee, etc... Now they are introducing ping pong tables, pool tables, nap rooms all in an effort to attract the generation.

The company I work for has a ping pong table, dart board, and pin ball machine the break room... keeps the employee moral up .. no one has to be reminded to work everyone loves being there.

As I am posting this I am at work not working though, I'll get back to that.

Kids going to private schools today have a huge advantage over the majority of public school kids. Sending your kids to private schools is a huge advantage for these kids today. Ask any recruiter. If you have the means, I highly recommend that you do. It will greatly benefit them down the road.

I checked into this, found that it was not exactly true, but could be depending on your area.

Louisiana has a school voucher program?

It does. And it has turned my daughters Catholic elementary school into basically what amounts to a public school. It's a Catholic school that was having trouble. Attendance was low at the church. Which caused the enrollment numbers at the school to go down also. The state came in and used the school as a guinea pig and started a Pre-K program for lower income families. The system showed promise so the state approved vouchers to some of the families to attend just this school. When word got out, other families from failing schools in the area started applying. The church was more than happy to accept the governments money to keep the school open. Within five years of starting the voucher program, the school is run like a public school and the kids placement scores show this. By all accounts from the teachers that I know that work there (I was president of the Dads Club for five years), they tell me it's been an ultimate failure in their opinion.
