Captain Kirk

Recommended Posts

Which QB's threw at least one TD pass in every game last season? Wilson and Cousins.

Who was the most accurate QB in the league last season? Cousins (70% completion)

I am surprised (pleasantly) from a FF perspective that Cousins in getting no love this season (not a Redskin homer BTW). He is ranked as the 13th QB here at FFToday, with an ADP of 10.03. I always like to use late-season surges as a possible indication of next-season buys, and he was lights-out.

He also only tossed 11 int's, although not afraid to go downfield. He was North of 4,000 yards, with 34 total TD's, although initially coming pretty slow outta the gate.

I am not sure how much of a factor that Doctson will be this year, or how healthy Reed will be....which are huge. However, my only question for you guys is this:

Why no love for Capt. Kirk this year......and I missing something?

Shhhh!!!!!

Don't worry......I don't foresee any fantasy popularity surge coming for Cousins.

His history works against him a bit. He was great at the end of last season, about to be cut the year before. I think he's a good bargain, but I would be likely to grab a solid #2 QB if he was my starter.

At his current price I'm buying. Good (healthy) wrs, good command of Grudens system and his first seven weeks are good matchups. I expect he'll have a good chance to be a top ten qb during that stretch.

He finished as the #9 fantasy QB last season with a vast majority of that coming in the 2nd half. In fact if you double his last 8 games he would be #1.

Can he keep connecting on those floaters that he throws up? The guy just doesn't seem like he should have been able to have that much success.

Indeed. Trying not to let it factor in, but damn if it's not tempting as late as I an still seeing him go.

I like him. I think the reason he isn't getting any love right now is the Eagles and Giants have improved defenses. The Cowboys may have an improved Secondary. Time will tell there....

Doctson seems as though he will be lightly used in 2016 in preparation for 2017. Reed, whom Cousins had his great run with, is always iffy. Morris is gone, but the line should be better... It's a toss up as to whether the offense has improved or not.

All that being said, I still like him. If you look back at the Lindy's magazine the year he was drafted, they made the claim he could be the future starter in Washington over RGIII. At the time, that was a pretty controversial statement. Now, it looks like they knew what they were talking about. Gruden is a great offensive coach. Had the ownership allowed Cousins to take over in the practices last season, prior to the preseason, I think his start would have been much better. I'm not convinced, yet, he is a true stud. For fantasy purposes, he has great WR's, a great TE and an inexperienced backfield. That should equal a lot of attempts..... I'd put him as my 8th overall QB currently, with a chance to move up higher. Definitely a QB1 in my book currently though. I haven't seen him fall far enough to be a QB2.

I saw him play a few times early in the year and he sucked. Just did not pass the eye test at all.

Now I know he did much better in the second half of the year so maybe a light went on or whatever. But I saw that he sucked and couldn't play and I'm sticking by that.

Yup this is what I'm trying to say.

The jury is still out on him a bit but he took me on a deep playoff run last season and I would feel comfortable with him as a starter most weeks He is quite consistent and has a decent week to week upside. He probably won't win you the league but he shouldn't lose it either. They could have a pretty good offense in the works in DC. He's a low QB1.

Excellent for depth.

Romo now has a steel clavicle thanks to a rod they put in to reinforce it. He is going to have a huge year. The Cowboys play the easiest schedule in the league. Have probably the most god awful defense with no pass rush which means Romo will be playing catchup all season long and have to throw often since the defense will not hold leads. Draft him as a # 2 QB and rake in the points.

I like Cousins as a spot starter only. He needs to take that next step.

You guys can have him. Not sold on the little bit we've seen him start. Only thing enticing for me is his draft position but I'd rather get Stafford.

I'd only draft him as a QBBC which I really like doing. There's a ton of cheap options at QB, but as pointed out, it may be better to target a guy with an easier schedule.

Romo is not for me , and is ranked to high . He won't last the season .

I'm taking Cousins over him all day .

I am a Cowboys fan, but fail to see what all the love of Romo is this season. He's got one top flight WR, who is also coming off injury.... He has the best line in the league, but Witten isn't getting any younger and has noticeably slowed since 2014. Terrence Williams is more of a great WR3 (real football) than a second option behind Bryant. I think they should have been looking for another WR this offseason, one of the bargain types, like Boldin. Why not? They aren't winning with defense.... I think he's a very good QB, but his options just aren't there. I'd prefer Rivers over him.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. I don't see Washington having a much more difficult schedule than last season. On top of that, Cousins now has a grasp of the offense. I'm not trying to compare him to the greats, but I will in this instance. Does anyone look at Rodgers or Brees schedule when selecting them? Well, Cousins has better weapons than Brees and a coach who designs great offensive schemes. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he's anywhere near as good as Brees, but I am saying his WR's are better as is his tight end. I don't think he is totally matchup proof just yet, but the team is not as bad as people are claiming. I watched Cousins play last season and do not recall all the "lame duck" passes. Sure, every QB has some of those during the season, but was he any worse than the other QB's? I didn't see it. People get an idea in their head and run with it. Don't do that. lol Does Brees throw the perfect spiral and throw hard on every pass? LOL No. Not even close. The ball gets to the place it needs to be though.

That steel rod is going to break though the skin and poke his eye out by game 4. Up to that point he will have 1500 yards and 11 TDs. Sell High after game 3.

Low end for Cousins is 4000-30-15. High end is 4500-40-7. That average puts Kirk around 5th-6th overall.

I can see this. He will throw a bunch more INTs this year. He gambles and got really lucky last year with few INTs.

The Washington Post's Mike Jones reports Kirk Cousins "hasn’t looked the sharpest on downfield throws" early in camp.

Jones reports all but one of Cousins' interceptions have come on deep throws or fade routes. Cousins struggled downfield early last season as well, but his completion percentage improved dramatically once DeSean Jackson returned to the lineup. Jones adds Cousins has been "really sharp in that short to intermediate range." Despite this report, Cousins is still a nice pick in the later rounds of fantasy drafts.

With a whole year of game tape to study, opposing DCs know this as well and will plan accordingly.

I would think they saw that last season also .

Last five games he avg 29 fantasy points .

And what stands out to me more vs the teams he playes within his divison he had better games against them the second time he played against them then he did the first time he played them .

Yes but that was his first season as a full time starter. As I said, with a whole year of tape, things can be gameplanned for better. When a guy has a deficiency in his game, like a lack of deep ball accuracy, defenses can exploit that. the great ones like Brady can overcome such a thing, but that takes alot of talent and vision.

I'm on board with drafting him, but no way will he be my only QB or even my top option. Is anyone who's supporting him willing to go all in with him?

I was thinking more that I'll grab him as possible upside backup.

When healthy, Romo is one of the best regular season QBs ever. Dez is healthy and they have Zeke. I dont see how he could possibly not be ranked ahead of him.

As a Skins homer I'd take Romo over Cousins easy. Now, if Cousins can do what Brady did and work on strengthening his arm he might really have been the steal of that draft. That's a big if. I'm still amazed at how Brady worked on that arm strength. Every year his deep ball got better. Not rockets but he can really sling that long ball. There is a video of Brady talking about it.
