How much did your parents contribute to the cost of your wedding?

Recommended Posts

Ex wife's dad paid for everything except the rehearsal dinner. I paid for that.

I really have no idea how much he spent, but I know her dress was some sorta Vera Wang That cost over $5K.

The reception was an elaborate affair held at a place in New Rochelle that does pretty much nothing but weddings.

More food than anyone could ever eat, open bar, champagne being poured everywhere, 3 photographers, a videographer, a live band, over 500 people. Rolls Royce Limos for the wedding party.

What a stupid colossal waste of money on that filthy, cheating kunt.

Glen Island?

I would have loved to put the money into the house, but my wife wanted the dream wedding. It was just this past June, and we are both in our mid 30's. All of our friends have been married with kids...we were the last of our group. So we made the wedding all about family and friends and kids. Had the music geared towards them, had cookies and milk for a snack, there was a big yard out back of the location for them to run around and play games, etc. Everything turned out beautiful, and everyone said it was one of the best weddings they had been to.

It should have been...as it was open bar all night, and they had some of the best prime rib i ever tasted.

The wife had a rough life. Neither parent cared about her. Her father passed after not wanting to battle kidney issues. Her step father, who was a better man, passed after battling cancer twice.

Then to top it all off, her mother and sister didn't attempt to throw a shower or be involved in the dress shopping, planning, etc at all.

I wanted to make sure she was appreciated, at least for one night.

Whats her man do? He can foot most the bill. Your a single woman for fricks sakes.

This.

My father in law paid for our wedding, ~25K in 1995. I can't even fathom how much that would be now. I certainly couldn't afford that.

Don't kill yourself paying for a big wedding, Peenie. Your daughter will understand.

My dad has a nice house, and back yard with a water garden back there. So we just had a simple back yard wedding with a JP at the garden. About 80 people total.

We paid for the Photographer, DJ, flowers and Caterer. My sister did the wedding cake as her present to us. Another Cousin did the makeup and hair for the bridal party as her gift to us.

And along with the use of his house, my dad also paid for renting the tents, tables and chairs. And bought a couple kegs for everyone.

Simple wedding that doesnt bankrupt is most definitly the way to go.

My parents paid for the rehearsal dinner (nice meal and open bar)

Her mother is a caterer and did the cakes (she is fantastic at cakes) and then also like heavy hors d'ouvres for the church reception. Wife and I helped them pay for flowers...paid for the pictures and so on.

Then both of our parents and us paid for beer, wine, champaign, and did a bunch of food for an after party at the house of a friend of my wife's. Since I had a bunch of family from out of town, we didn't want to just send them off with the short church reception. So family and friends had an after party.

My recommendation is to figure out what you can afford and set a hard limit right now. E.g. I'll give you 5k or 10k and you can do whatever you want with it but that's what I can afford.

What you don't want is an open-ended arrangement.

If one or both are Catholic I highly recommend staying away from the church wedding.

I bet that's more than a DJ gets in rural Pennsylvania.

That is with lights too. I do 1000 without lights

I'm still the cheapest around. (around here that I know of)

just 3 years ago I was charging 500, but I had a weekly residency at a bar. I pretty much just do weddings/parties now.

I have a graduation party booked for may 2017, it's here http://www.hammondcastle.org/common/index.php?com=HAMM&div=AA&nav=AA&page=A91

they are paying me $1500 for a freaking graduation party!

I've thought about getting back in numerous times but lost track of a lot of popular music.I actually considered Retro Joe's specializing in class reunions, birthday parties and the like for us older fockers.

We paid for everything and then her parents gave us an amount that was close to 45% of what it cost. Having 4 girls must be brutal.

Wife's parents paid the whole wedding, around $20K back in 1993. At the Ritz in Phoenix.

My mom was pretty poor so we paid for the rehearsal dinner which was about $2K (we had lots of out of town guests because we got married in Phoenix and threw a big party). We also paid for the rings and honeymoon.

I went to a wedding in June in Basking Ridge, NJ which was crazy lavish. Probably pushing 6 figures. At the Old Mill Inn:

They are clearly paying you $750 too much.
