MDC 7,888 Posted September 2, 2016 Favorite comedies: The Big Lebowski. Maybe not the funniest movie but it is technically a comedy and one of my favorite movies. The Naked Gun and Airplane. There were some great early Eddie Murphy movies: 48 Hours, Trading Places, Coming to America. Loved Borat. Love Team America World Police. Young Frankenstein is my favorite Gene Wilder movie. Vacation and Christmas Vacation. Harold and Kumar for straight up stupid comedy. Many more.
dain11279 980 Posted September 2, 2016 If you wanna go really back in the day the Marx Brothers movies were comedy genius
parrot 789 Posted September 2, 2016 The Big Lebowski. Maybe not the funniest movie but it is technically a comedy and one of my favorite movies. I just saw that John Polito, who played the private investigator in The Big Lebowski and Johnny Casper in Miller's Crossing, and a bunch of other roles in Coen Bros movies, died yesterday. I use "gave me the high hat" all the time.
penultimatestraw 473 Posted September 2, 2016 I agree. I also don't like Old School. Hangover was mediocre, but Old School is a comedic masterpiece
wiffleball 4,797 Posted September 2, 2016 Can we all agree that the 3 stooges was never funny? and whomever decided to remake that should be kicked out of Hollywood. ....And his synagogue.

MDC 7,888 Posted September 2, 2016 Hangover was mediocre, but Old School is a comedic masterpiece I like the first half hour or so, then it turns into pretty much the same dumb Porkys style comedy it was parodying and gets old real real fast.

wiffleball 4,797 Posted September 2, 2016 It's a scientific fact that the only people who find Monty Python funny are significantly smarter than the average person. The converse can be said about current American Sit-coms.

wiffleball 4,797 Posted September 2, 2016 I find wimmens in general have horrible senses of humor. Did you know that the topology of male vs. female brains is different? Vastly so. It's true. It's not just comedians and husbands thinking so, it's actually true. There's a reason why those stereotypes (both good and bad) exist. I think part of it is because women are too focking literal when it comes to satire. I also think it's because they 'feel' more whereas men are raised ripping on each other - and don't generally take it perrsonally - whereas broads take everything as having some kind of hidden, deeper meaning. For me, I tend to find that humor appreciation - and the kind of humor one appreciates or doesn't - speaks a lot to intelligence. Not always, but often. There's a reason why The Big Bang Theory is AMURICAS NUMBER ONE COMEDY!!! YUK YUK!

Frozenbeernuts 2,332 Posted September 3, 2016 I don't think I get Office Space. Some of my buddies who I usually completely see eye-to-eye with think it's hilarious and I think it's just okay. They've worked in that environment though. I think that's the difference. Office space is the opposite environment I work in and I thought it was hilarious. However a lot of younger people, my wife included, don't like it and find it stupid. Not quite gold, but pretty good if you're in the right mood. Same with The Meaning of Life and Life of Brian. I'll add Napoleon Dynamite and Superbad to the list of sh!tty comedies. Office space was mediocre, but I think Parrot is right about needing to work in that environment to appreciate it.
