Ever ask her to "show me yours and I'll show you mine" whilst watching Kung-Fu theatre playing with Weeble Wables and a Sux Million Dollar Man doll? If you answer yes to any of these questions, I'd say "Yes!!!" Go for it.

Could be a panel, crackattack gives it one and half legs, cmh gives it one and a third teef, BLS two halves of a car. Add that up and it would be a good score, be even better if the producers could punch them in the face (like a price is right game) beforehand

I always thought the Wheel of Fortune and/or Jeopardy would be much more entertaining if the the little buzzers they held shocked them if they guessed wrong. I'd like to buy a Q please. ZAP!!!! No Q. Actually, it's not illegal anywhere....only first cousins in some states. Also I've learned that the whole "kids having deformities" thing is blown way out of proportion. Basically, 1st cousins having kids is "only" about 3-4% greater risk of deformities vs. couples who aren't related. 2nd cousins have a <1% difference. Like many other things we learned growing up, it isn't always factual.
joneo 556 Posted September 8, 2016 Except we've established that they are second cousins, not third. Also, good to see you. You are correct...2nd. The way I see it, our great grandfather who was born circa 1870 is the issue. Again, I remember meeting her once as an 11 year old and once last fall in 2015. We're basically complete strangers. Haven't even held hands. 2. Absolutely a possibility of it not working out. Here's the deal though, we are basically strangers. We've never had a family reunion in my 50 years on this Earth and don't see one happening. Basically saying that it wouldn't really affect the family situation in that regard. 3. I'm thinking about the "weirdo" thing. I have 4 people in my family that I am concerned about and how this will affect them. I plan on talking with them openly and will then decide. I don't want any of these 4 to throw me out of their lives for this. Although, I have to wonder how why I should have to have "permission" to do anything in my life. i don't want any of these 4 people to take the position of never talking to me again. Ok, but once you mention it, you might as well go ahead and do it. There's no walking that back. Saying you want to but won't if it upsets them doesn't make the weirdo part go away. If I remember correctly, that would make it about double the likelihood of deformities if you have common ancestry than if you don't. Given your current set of deformities, it is probably triple. joneo 556 Posted September 8, 2016 Out of curiosity, where are you getting these numbers, CuzLuv.com? Cousin marriage is marriage between cousins (i.e. people with a common grandparent or people who share another fairly recent ancestor). Opinions and practise vary widely across the world. In some cultures and communities, cousin marriage is considered ideal and actively encouraged; in others, it is subject to social stigma. Cousin marriage is common in the Middle East, for instance, where it accounts for over half of all marriages in some countries.[1] In some countries outside that region, it is uncommon but still legal. In others, it is seen as incestuous and is legally prohibited: it is banned in China and Taiwan, the majority of U.S. states, North Korea, and South Korea.[2] Supporters of cousin marriage where it is banned may view the prohibition as discrimination,[3][4] while opponents may appeal to moral or other arguments.[5] Worldwide, more than 10% of marriages are between first or second cousins.[6] In the past, cousin marriage was practised within indigenous cultures in Australia, North America, South America, and Polynesia. Various religions have ranged from prohibiting sixth cousins or closer from marrying, to freely allowing first-cousin marriage. Cousin marriage is an important topic in anthropology and alliance theory.[7] Children of first-cousin marriages may have an increased risk of genetic disorders, but this can only be estimated empirically, and those estimates are likely to be specific to particular populations in specific environments. Some scientists contend that the risk is relatively small at 5%, compared with a 3% risk for children whose parents are not genetically related.[2][6] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cousin_marriage This says the difference for 1st cousins is about 2% greater for birth defects over non-related couples. I can't find where I read the 2nd cousin being less than 1%, but it would certainly fit with this information. Also, kids aren't even in question since we are of the age of not wanting any. The genetic risk isn't too high; one could argue many people with heritable diseases shouldn't be allowed to procreate if the goal is decreasing the likelihood of defective offspring. With multiple generations of inbreeding or closer relatives it becomes a bigger problem though.

With multiple generations of inbreeding or closer relatives it becomes a bigger problem though. Absolutely...certain regions/cultures of the world encourage marring close relatives. It's this inbreeding over generations that has fueled the distorted numbers concerning my situation. https://www.theguardian.com/science/2013/jul/04/marriage-first-cousins-birth-defects Marriage between first cousins doubles the risk of children being born with birth defects, according to a study seeking answers to the higher than expected rates of deaths and congenital abnormalities in the babies of the Pakistani community. Researchers have concluded that the cultural practice of marriage between first cousins is a bigger factor than any other – outweighing the effects of deprivation in parts of Bradford, where the study was carried out. Marriage to a blood relative accounted for nearly a third (31%) of all birth defects in babies of Pakistani origin. People hear this kind of number but don't take into account the many generations of in breeding.
