Why most of us hate bicyclists

Recommended Posts

Those guys shouldn't be riding side by side, but there isn't a great way to pass such a large group on a road like that either.

Most cyclists don't travel in huge pelotons though.

The second link doesn't work.

I hate those critical mass bike rides, those rockers block every damn intersection and there are thousands of them. Just annoying. Then they wave at you like they're a parade.

I have zero problems with byclists.

Why would I?

Healthy lifestyle, no pollution... good on 'em! Wish I was comitted enough to join them

I bike quite a bit in the summer and have for years and I don't think I've once gone on a road. I always use bike trails because I'm not a complete moron and I understand that while legal it's not very smart to have a slow-moving unprotected bike around fast moving cars that already don't like you.

And Ive buzzed a few bicyclist that were riding two wide and not getting over or not obeying traffic signals. That crap drives me nuts

Like I said, I ride my bike all the time when weather is permitting. It's those c0cksucking critical mass folks I hate. They don't obey the lights and fvck everything up. Hate those bastards

I would love to ride my bike to work or even around town. Thing is even though the law is on my side it's not going to stop 2 ton truck from hitting me. The road is for cars.

First paragraph, I agree. Unfortunately there are far too many morons and assh0les out there, so I personally think it is generally reckless to bike on the roads. Shouldn't be, and they're well within their rights to do it, but I personally want to live so I don't.

Second paragraph makes you a focking assh0le. You could kill someone. Whether you like what they're doing or not, you should not take other people's lives so lightly

They shouldn't take their own lives so lightly. Bam

You guys are such poosays. Biking isn't a death sentence, though you do need to be very aware of your surroundings. The odds of a serious accident aren't much different than that of motorists. And I bet you partake in plenty of other activities which increase your risk of death and disease.

There a bunch of asswhole drivers too. But most cyclists arent critical mass activists, so I don't understand the hatred.

I don't mind cyclists, it's only these

The idiots using the Parker rent-a-bikes downtown are also insuffereable. They view traffic signals as Christmas decorations that only apply to cars. They are frequently going the wrong way even at night.

i just reread it, and still don't get it?

you're telling me or "you guys" that we are such poosays and that cycling isn't a death sentence... but I never said it was.

I was responding to Worms who said that buzzing a cyclist makes you an and that you're taking someone elses life lightly because you could end up killing someone. \

I'm saying that maybe cyclists are the ones taking their lives lightly by putting themselves in that situation, insisting on riding in groups of 4 or more, not single file on the shoulder of the road, etc... As a cyclist (and i have no real problem with them), you should understand that you're riding a bike around fast moving hunks of steel that weigh tons.

the one thing that does piss me off is when you see 2 or 3 bikers and one guy is riding along side the other so that he is in the actual road and then gets all pissy and makes a gesture when you drive by like "WTF man you could have clipped me"... well what the fock are you doing in the middle of the road, you think im going to drive 10 mph behind you while you chat? gtfo

Didn't have that much of a biker problem in SA. It was mostly when I went to Austin. Lots of hipsters there and it was trendy to bike everywhere. I've got no problem with cyclists riding in the bike lane or single file. But when they ride the in the middle of the focking road like they are meant to be there and everyone else should just wait on them is when I have a problem with it.

I don't know any cyclist who intentionally puts himself in harm's way. But there is a certain amount of trust inherent in the act, a part of which is motorists will try to avoid you. And believe me, even cyclists riding single file in dedicated bike lanes are "buzzed" by asswhole motorists, intentionally or as a component of distracted driving.

All that being said, stats don't support cycling is particularly dangerous. And you guys are using outliers to stereotype bad behavior for the group as a whole. We've all encountered sh!tty drivers too, but for some reason they don't seem to have the same vitriol directed at them. My guess is most people can relate to bad driving behavior, but haven't ever experienced cycling amongst traffic first hand.

Of course they shouldn't take the lane willy nilly, but they have the right to do so if the shoulder/bike lane isn't safe to ride. Which is often, and it isn't always obvious to motorists, who assume the cyclist is just trying to make a douchey statement.

Look at these focking ######

Just wow.

I had no idea what "Critical Mass" meant before this thread. Hell, I've never even heard the term as related to cyclists.

Can we just agree that some should die horribly in a bike vs car / steamroller accident and the majority will learn from that and respect the road like some /most of "Truck" drivers do?

Sad part is that even the most lawful cyclists on the road today are still at a disadvantage given the general lack of awareness of the common driver today. Worst part :(

I don't care what the "stats" say. Of course it's dangerous. So many assh0les and morons out driving around - how could it not be?

We claim all women and Asians are bad drivers.. I think among motorists there is a LOT more vitriol toward bad drivers than cyclists. Its only natural as there are far fewer cyclists. Ask a driver what pisses them off most and they are probably more likely to say slow drivers, bad drivers, tailgaters, etc before they randomly think of that self awareness lacking biker they passed last weekend.

I never said any cyclist intentionally puts themselves in harms way. Doesn't mean they don't do it withough realizing. In northern NJ, I see tons of bikers biking down the middle of the road with no regard to traffic behind them while motorists are forced to cross the yellow line to go around them. That's not safe biking and I'm sure it's not only happening in NNJ.

I also don't know how any stats would suggest that cycling is particularly dangerous.... So you've got me there... with stats that likely dont exist for safe or unsafe cycling. Though again, I never said it was inherently unsafe.

my point was simply to say that anyone claiming a motorist does not have regard for a cyclists life needs to be asking if the cyclist has regard for their own life or if they are putting themselves at risk by not realizing, right or wrong, that bikes don't own the road and they need to have their heads on a swivel.
