Recs for Amazon food stuff?

Recommended Posts

Any interesting food stuff you've discovered on Amazon and highly recommend? I figure I'll inaugurate a gift of prime membership by ordering snacks, etc...don't need anything at the moment but food is never a bad idea personally.

If you're into candy, check out some of the old fashioned candy sites and pick up some beer nostalgic candies from the 70s and 80s. It's kind of a kick.

If you can indicate what kind of snacks you're into. It would be helpful. For example, if your an ice cream person, there's a ton of regional ice creams that people swear by. Graeter's is freaking delicious and pretty much local to Ohio.

Seems like damn near every region has its favorite local potato chip.

Also, Regional berries and Berry Products. Damn, I had never had huckleberries before and they make some of the most delicious jams jellies and ice cream. Even the damn tasty margarita.

Same thing with hot sauces or whatever. That'll be one of the great advantages of Amazon is that it'll give you countless recommendations and list from individuals and regions.

Good place to start is British sweets meaning biscuits / cookies. They have some really tasty ones. You don't have to worry about spoilage and you can't really get them around here very easily. There's one I'm thinking of with dark chocolate and orange marmalade or something it's actually really tasty and highly addicting.

Thanks for all the ideas! I'll let you know what I go with in the end. I didn't know ice cream could be ordered through Amazon sellers  I would imagine that's not Prime eligible.

Generally speaking, I try to stay away from sweets (a bit is fine though, especially if novelty) and I dig savory stuff.

Healthy food recs are appreciated too, I just imagine the pickings are slim, but maybe I don't understand how fresh some things can be via Prime.

Prime Pantry is another option. You put items in box and after each item it tells you how much more room you have. The shipping is not usually free though, 5.99 I think although sometimes they run deals where you add certain items for free shipping. I tried this for awhile and it was convenient but more expensive than buying local. Maybe Wiff lives in an area where they do delivery within an hour. I know Amazon is trying that in certain markets.

never even crossed my mind to order food via Amazon.... is it cheaper than going to Shoprite? Do people use it just for condiments and stuff they don't need right away and the free prime delivery saves the hassle of going to the store?

as far as snacks, ive really been into Snyders pretzel cheese sandwich things.

I live less than 10 mins from an Amazon distribution center. Its absurdly convenient to order with Prime now. I just ordered a bag of dog food. Its 4.99 for a 1 hour window of delivery, and free for a 2 hour window. I will have it between 10a and 12p tomorrow.

The Prime Pantry program enables Amazon Prime members to purchase “everyday items at everyday prices.” Prime Pantry items are packed and shipped in dedicated boxes, which are a specific size and are shipped at a flat rate of $5.99 each. So even if you buy 3 items versus 13 items, you’ll still be charged the $6 shipping fee.

Since Prime Pantry boxes are a fixed size, each item you add to your order will fill a certain percentage of that box. Amazon keeps track of how full your box is as you go, which helps you get a better idea of how much space you have left for other items. For example, a package of toilet paper may fill 10% of the box, while a box of cotton swabs will fill about 1%. If you’re paying the $6 shipping fee, it obviously makes financial sense to buy more of what you need at once (though that’s not a hard and fast rule, as you’ll see below).

Seperately, Prime Now sources from local stores and Amazon facilities. You can buy fresh food as the order comes within two hours.

I don't think it's cheaper, esp if you shop sale ads. It's convenient though and with an Amazon card you can save 5%. Walmart does this too but they recently raised their prices substantially and they pack their items like crap. Amazon packs awesome and the boxes are solid.

I signed up for Prime Panty.

Don't judge.

So I just did basic Prime.

Got some pure Ginger candy (apparently from Indonesia), sounds like it tastes pretty good and doubles as a stomach soother.

Blood orange and mandarin tea from Israel that was highly rated. Not usually a fan of citrus for hot tea but other people who aren't like it.

Onion marmalade with black olives and balsamic vinegar from Scotland. This sounds like it could be incredible or disgusting. Most reviewers like it, a couple do find it disgusting.

And some rye crackers for the marmalade.

eta: Also Snyder's chocolate covered pretzels for the mum.

so in short, if there is a shoprite 10 minutes from me, just go there and shop like a regular person?

i dont shop sale ads really. I mean i have a shoprite card and ill keep my eye out for certain sales on stuff I like such as 10 for $10 or 2 for $4 cans of soup. stuff like that.

I like going to the grocery store too much to order food off amazon. Especially when I go to Publix. I do order some spices off there that I used to get in SA but cant get anymore since moving to SC. Been eyeing some spicy ramen on there as well but not really much of anything else.

What does people which order a lot from Amazon do with all them boxes? I don't get a ton from them, but I always hate having to break down and dispose of them boxes. <_<

The county I live in gives everyone a trash bin and a recycle bin. Most boxes from online shopping go into the recycle bin. I usually don't break them down; it's a big bin. Big bin..

I've read that you can also reuse the box for donations:

https://www.amazon.com/p/feature/xde6cauvpfp66o2

So basically you put whatever trash you want to get rid of in the box, tape it up and let the mailm'n take it to Goodwill for them to deal with.

We should go in halvsies and start something similar but with laundry. We need a name.

Our slogan, Nobody likes a dirty box.

Not enough fat in venison.

You want fat in your jerky?

I want flavor in my jerky. Fat = flavor.

Jerky gets it's flavor from salt and spices. Even beef jerky is incredibly lean. :dunno:

That's why it lasts so long without refrigeration .

Yum. Jerky is the kind of thing I would imagine a thread is made about it and multiple people come in saying they have never tried it even once in their lives. Not even a slim Jim from the store as a kid. Just a GC kind of thing.

You need stuff. I have subscriptions for toilet paper, paper towels, ziplock bags, kuerig pods, dish soap, hand soap, dishwashing sponges, 5 hour energy, and trash bags. Set it to get delivered every few months or whenever you need it. It's pretty nice.
