13.09 - Supertramp - The Logical Song

Thank you...prefer this to the first ST song off the board.

Step dad was a big fan...this was one of the albums pulled out in November with my uncle.

I made a list of songs during the 12th round that I think should be picked for this draft, this is only the 2nd song from my list that's been chosen. :shocking:

Well people can afford to wait in good songs now and pick their favorites.

With ST. Really could be where someone has them on their lists but feels several songs are equal and not sure which to pick and maybe justvwaiting til one or two go. Id have probably done that.

Glad to see us branching out a bit. I'm going to funk/blues this place up if it kills me. Or you. :D

Remade in 1978, which is why I asked for clarification on remakes. Vastly underrated on guitar.

13.12 On Broadway - George Benson

Check out this awesome live performance:

13.13 I Want You to Want Me - Cheap Trick

My grade school music teacher used to give Robin Zander music lessons. Was really odd thinking of this woman who taught us Frosty the Snowman teaching a rock star to sing.

14.01 Life in the Fast Lane - The Eagles.

WHAT! I would have had that on my little after the draft list, cept I assumed this had to have been picked rounds and rounds ago.

I just think it's crazy it was still available. Great pick.

Just my .02 but a 70's draft could go 100 rounds and there would still be great songs missing

I'm looking at a lot of songs that I'm thinking the same thing. But there is just so much. I almost didn't pick it because I wanted something else, but decided how can I pass it up. This is a lot harder than I expected. And a lot more fun than I expected.

Only one Springsteen song picked? Seems criminal. Here is one of my two favorite Boss songs ever:

14.04 Thunder Road - Bruce Springsteen

Thought I was safe with all the Bruce bashing around here. Great version in that video, it's from the No Nukes concert at MSG in 1979. E-street band at their best. The last line of TR is one of the all time great lines in rock history. Doesn't matter where you're from or where you're going, everyone has felt that at some point. It's the song I made sure was playing as I drove through the gates of Camp LeJeune for the last time.

It is criminal,if I weren't trying to pick all fresh artists that would've been gone long ago my friend.

It does. And there are still bands that haven't been touched that should have been. But you look at your list and say "I should pick this, but I love this one and I want to share it with the guys."

We could have made it where you get to pick 2 songs in each round and there would still be stuff sitting there that make you think, "how is this still available."

It was more than that. With all the alt takes with studio chatter that have been released, the experts mostly agree Elvis was the producer of his music. Now that they can listen to the first takes to the final product the say he was an interpretive genus. He sang with passion. That's what Sam Phillips of Sun was looking for. A white guy that could sing with the passion of the black artists. Phillips was the only one out there recording R&B. People like Muddy Waters. But it just wouldn't sell. He found his guy with Elvis. One piece of studio chatter pretty much says it all. After a few takes Elvis says, "OK, Let's get mad at it. That's why he reached so many people. You could feel the passion that he felt.

He got it right, but he was essentially copying what he heard Muddy, Big Momma Thornton and others do.

But thats how the music industry is. Everyone has a core group of influences.

He was certainly influenced by them. Copying? Or some say stealing. But when they asked those old R&B guys they said no. They loved Elvis. Most say that they made more money from Elvis recording one of their songs than they made in their entire career.

You have to remember Elvis was poor. So poor that he went to school barefoot wearing a pair of overalls. It was the only piece of clothing he owned. In Tupelo there's an area called shake rag. It was the black neighborhood. Elvis spent a lot of time there as a child, listening to people playing guitars and singing R&B. Later in Memphis long before he was famous, he was known to spend a lot of time on Beale Street. Places would let him in for free because they liked him and knew he didn't have any money.

He loved R&B. Elvis could sing the blues because he had lived a life much like the black people that sang R&B. You don't have to be black to suffer and feel the blues. Being dirt poor is enough.
