Evans was the last real stud player at a position we needed pretty badly. Clearly the gm knew the pats wanted him. Agreed. The Titans did not give up much to make that jump and they got a good player. I would be concerned that Evans was a one-year starter and he has some injury concerns, but I think that the Pats were going to jump on him. Mike Honcho 5,129 Posted April 27, 2018 I didn't want James although wouldn't have been too upset. We needed a true cover corner. They haven't covered anyone in years. The Packer prerequisite for corner has been 6 foot. That has hurt them over the years as you move more talented smaller corners down your board. In what looks like a 7 on 7 drill touch football league, I would rather have skilled corners and wide receivers and forgive the height. When you have to cover guys like Brown, Odell, or quick slot WRs making sudden moves....you need quick, skillful, cover corners. I just don't think we need another safety that early. I am open to drafting one but a fairly deep draft for them. With HaHa and Josh Jones they have 2 guys who can play. Jones has a lot of potential. I think they did really well. I think they would have taken him at 14. They saw an opening to move back, win out on picks gained, and still take him. I was sort of wanting Edmunds there. But I am not certain on Pettine's scheme. Obviously he knows what he is looking for. I like the pick and the 1st next year. Wouldn't mind trading some 4ths or 5ths to get a 3rd round. Or to move up atop of the 2nd and get an impact player. I don't want to sit around with these 2 4ths, 4 5ths and just pick a bunch of players like they always do. Go for impact over depth for once. They don't have a ton of glaring holes. Order of needs 1. Edge rusher 2. WR 3. a guy who could play guard or tackle for grooming to fill a right side spot next year. My reasoning for James is based on last year I Jones looked more suited for the Charles Woodson/slot corner/blitzing from the edge type of player rather than a full-time safety. Last year when he was playing all over, he looked particularly bad at safety(lost in coverage). Hopefully his issue was more of too much/too fast/complicated Capers defense and he makes big 2nd year improvements---then great his athleticism will be huge back there. I have edge rusher below WR, because I read that Petine is going to use the D-line more to bring some heat---so I'm hoping for DJ Clark tonight. And traditionally they have drafted well with WR in the 2nd. I don't really care for Chark however I'd rather have a good route runner. Not a fan of Mike Wallace type guy. He and his friends have all been speculating about who is going to go where in the draft. He and I were talking through things leading up to 23 and I was telling him that I thought Evans would be a good fit because the 2 OT's were long gone. Once that pick happened, my son was telling me that he thought they would go for Ronald Jones in round 2 and maybe Jackson at 31. I did not see a RB being a big need right now, so I was surprised as well. I figured a DB. BTW - I could see the Pats making one of their 2nd round picks on a QB (Lauletta or Rudolph) and possibly a CB like Oliver. Great move by Baltimore. Moving into round 1 adds that 5th year option on him. I'm hoping to add some oline help (trade up for Hernandez?) or maybe a CB. Name wise, I'd be happy adding Nick Chubb.
