Canadianfan 76 Posted August 18, 2018 Let's talk a little bit about this guy. Kind of under the radar. Going in the late 2nd in most mocks, but almost like a consolation prize after missing out on Mcaffrey. Not a guy I get excited to take. He had a great rookie year, but struggled a bit last year. Dropped 1 yard per carry which is a little bit of a concern. Maybe he was battling injuries. The emergence of cohen is another concern. Too explosive not have in the lineup. Any homers out there keeping tabs? How does he look?
weepaws 2,516 Posted August 19, 2018 I think he’s a top ten rb in non ppr. I think he is what he was last season in ppr, a rb2. Cohen is the ppr rb on the Bears.

Moe Money 4 Posted August 19, 2018 Love Cohen in ppr this year, but hes climbing fast and may no longer be a value pick.

Any homers out there keeping tabs? How does he look? Howard is a tad underrated. The Bears were horrible last year and ran a crazy low number of plays on offense. And all of their WRs were hurt. A chunk of their oline was hurt often too. And John Fox. Howard still managed to be serviceable/good on some weeks. Hes boring but hes a good, tough rb. If Trubisky can be less terrible and their offense can improve even a little, Howard should be top 10-ish again pretty easily. It probably wont be a Gurley-level resurgence, but theres still a chance for Howards situation to improve quite a bit on a week to week basis even if Human Joystick takes a leap this year. bobby heenan 60 Posted August 19, 2018 the thing that scares me about howard is just hes not a good fit for a matt nagy offense...not the kind of lead back they really want....hes more of a fit for that john fox style/scheme stuff they were doing....but right now they dont really have the kind of guy id think theyd want on that roster...then again they didnt really go out and and address that so maybe they do like howard or are at least going to give him the chance to see if it can work to me he sort of reminds me of gordon in LA....although prob less talented....not that i think they are really similar...i just think that howard could underimpress and still put up decent numbers if things fall right.....alot will depend on gameflow for howard....if the defense is playing well and they are moving the ball he will do well enough..... i think cohen is the guy youd want in ppr(agree with others that have said it) because i think that cohen will be on the field even with howard......if the bears are in catch up mode than cohen could be real big....but i think that defense is pretty decent and should keep them in some games.....but they have some decent offenses in that division and could be playing a faster paced catchup type of games more often than not we will se.... Super Cubs 134 Posted August 19, 2018 If the passing game and o-line are improved I think Howard is improved. The overall offense can not get much worse than last year. I think Howard did pretty good with what he had to work with.
Super Cubs 134 Posted August 19, 2018 Some of you are saying Cohen is the rb to own in ppr. Why? Do you think he will put up better overall ppr numbers?
Frozenbeernuts 1,653 Posted August 19, 2018 Howard is a great runner. His vision and instincts are top notch. He just isn't a high end athlete and can't catch well. While he isn't multi dimensional, and he may not fit the Nagy scheme perfectly, the combo of him and Cohen are perfect for the offense. The Bears should run a ton of 2 rb sets with both of them. The threat of pass or run will always be on the table. Besides having a Leveon Bell or David Johnson type guy, Howard is just fine for the team I root for. He will have scoring chances because of the overall improvement on offense. There isn't anyone else on the roster who should be taking goal line dives. Frozenbeernuts 1,653 Posted August 19, 2018 Some of you are saying Cohen is the rb to own in ppr. Why? Do you think he will put up better overall ppr numbers? Value wise, he is going in the 6th round about, maybe the 5th. He had 53 catches last year in that horrid John Fox and Dowel Loggins offense. Instead of capitalizing on the first two weeks where Cohen was carving up defenses, they decided it was working too well and stopped going to him. Still, 53 catches is a lot for a little known rookie rb who isn't even the starter. He will add to that total, but he will also be used in more creative ways. It's not just the catches, I can see 6 TDs as his floor. His catch total gets closer to 70 imo, and he is still going to take some carries. He will be used in goal line packages as a receiver. It's really a belief in the overall improvement of offense by the team. Oh and I just think he is really good with the ball in his hands

LOD01 195 Posted August 20, 2018 How did the Bears O-line stack up to other O-lines last year and have they made strides to improve for 2018 ? Not sure how they ranked last year but this year the are ranked anywhere from 12th best to 15th best.
TheUsualSuspect 207 Posted August 23, 2018 My predicy is Howards production will be the same as last season. Not suggesting thats a bad thing, I just dont get that tingly feeling when thinking about drafting this guy. Cohen was all or nothing every game last season. Always nothing when I plug n played. 2018- Better TE, with slightly better WRs does not get me too excited about either back.

It's always interesting how we all have our guys that give us the tingly feeling. Howard is actually a guy that does for me. As safe of a rb2 as there is, because he is a RB1 in non ppr. He is a very good running back who just doesn't have high end athleticism.
mobb_deep 919 Posted August 23, 2018 I'd grab Mixon or McKinnon over Howard at the back end of the 2nd. I think both of them have considerably more upside than Howard. Mixon started off slow last year, but came on strong down the stretch. He also reported to camp this year in much better shape than he did as a rookie. McKinnon is a little trickier, with the shoulder injury, but he has a bunch of stiffs running the ball behind him. I can't see a scenario where McKinnon will be splitting carries when the season starts. The 9ers are obviously a better team than the Bears as well... Flgatorguy87 160 Posted August 23, 2018 Howard feels safe to me. He won't be in my target range unless he falls which I would be more than happy with. Would be a really nice pair to go with a top 5 back.
mobb_deep 919 Posted August 23, 2018 Howard is safer. Give me boring old top 10 Howard any day. Hey, if you want to play for 2nd/3rd go for it. I guess that's better than playing for 4th in the Norris, like the Bears. I play to win.

rallo 132 Posted August 24, 2018 I'm hoping Yahoo ranking stay how they are, as they currently have Howard going late 2nd early 3rd, which is ridiculous IMO. If that holds up I'll be looking at Gurley howard and a wr to start the draft. Also, nothing wrong with a safe RB... I'll take 1,000/8+ any day.
weepaws 2,516 Posted August 24, 2018 Yeah I agree, Howard’s ADP is great right now. Just read that coach Nagy sees Howard playing on third downs also. Shhh coach let me draft first.
cyclone24 1,836 Posted August 24, 2018 Yeah I agree, Howards ADP is great right now. Just read that coach Nagy sees Howard playing on third downs also. Shhh coach let me draft first. Bears coach Matt Nagy said Jordan Howard will stay on the field for third down. "Well do different things with [Howard] and well keep him on the field on third down Ive told you that before," Nagy emphasized. Nagy stated last month that he believes Howard "can play all three downs" and this statement reaffirms that belief wasn't just coach speak. Hmm....early second in standard ok for him? Gladiators 1,914 Posted August 24, 2018 I got Howard in the 5th as my RB3 behind Gurley and Cook. Sorry guys, he should probably be on your DND list.

Flgatorguy87 160 Posted August 24, 2018 That's big time. Heavy workload in an (assumed to be) improving offense. I am not sure if everyone has looked at the RB's in the 2nd round...but there is nobody with his projected workload (including goal line work) in the same ADP area that he is in. jasoncollington 1 Posted August 24, 2018 Nagy is the guy who took over play calling from Andy Reid to bring the Chiefs offense back to life last season. He made a late round rookie lead the league in rushing. Advantage Howard. The Bears quarterback has played about 18 football games in his life. He's going to hand off and dunk a bunch. Advantage Howard. Tarik Cohen is not special. Advantage Howard. Howard averaged 6.5 yards per carry on runs from the shotgun during his first two seasons, compared with 4.3 yards when the quarterback was under center. Nagy loves to run from the shotgun. Advantage Howard.

TBayXXXVII 2,204 Posted August 24, 2018 Sproles was pretty special at his role. I think Cohen could be and possibly be even better. Ok. I wouldn't use the word "special", but the comparison is reasonable. I think he's too small to be better, but he'll help the team.
