tubby_mcgee 701 Posted July 1, 2019 I searched front page here for "barstool", so if this has been discussed, forgive me. So, basically, employee posts some stuff about missing Utah college student. 3 hours later, she's found dead. Not long after that, writer is fired. https://twitter.com/stoolpresidente/status/1144726398776557569/video/1 So why was he fired? Poor taste? If so, then umm...almost everyone at barstool posts stuff that can be viewed as poor taste by many, so I guess more firings to come? The content of what he posted was no worse than anything posted any other day by any of the other barstool writers. Because she was found dead? I think this is it. I think if she woulda been found alive, he wouldn't have gotten fired. I think that "stung" more to the public, so then Dave had to fire him to appease the public. Whiiiiichhhh...if that's the case, then he shouldn't have gotten fired because she was found dead. That had nothing to do with the comment. He made it before she was found dead. So what are your thoughts on why he was fired? 1.) poor taste 2.) only because she was found dead 3.) other? If the reason is 1 or 2, I think it's b.s he got fired. *and yeah, duh, I know the owner can fire him just because "he wants to". That's not my point*
Bert 1,128 Posted July 1, 2019 Guy was a marginal employee and because of all the bullish!t HR insanity it was the only way they could fire him.

They were searching for a reason.... and boom...this happened...so they took advantage of it. But still complete bullsh!t if you ask me.

In an apologetic statement, Ellis explained that prior to writing the piece, Lueck's sorority sisters saw Lueck's Instagram activity as a "hopeful sign" and that a report from People Magazine said "no foul play suspected," leaving him to conclude that Lueck was "fine." "Tragically, a few hours later, it was discovered that Mackenzie had been killed. It was only then that I realized just how horrible my judgement had been," Ellis wrote. "Even if that hadn't been the case, I simply should not have written about the story. It was a horrific mistake and I am sorry to the Lueck family for their unfathomable loss... The last thing they need is some fool on the internet offering thoughts on their ordeal." He continued, "This was my error alone. Barstool Sports gave me complete liberty to post my work without oversight, and I abused that trust with my piece. For that, [Barstool Sports founder] David Portnoy fired me today, and I feel that was entirely justified."
avoiding injuries 1,580 Posted July 1, 2019 I listened to the Tweet. From what I heard, her (missing girl’s) account liked something on Instagram so he (the guy who was fired) assumed she was alive. He made some sort of comment about her that was a joke, thinking she was unharmed. When it was revealed she was actually found dead a few hours later, the optics were very bad. He (Dave) explained his rationale and thought process to my liking.

Intense Observer 344 Posted July 1, 2019 Recap of events: 1. College girl from Utah goes missing 2. Sorority sisters and MSM report that she is missing, no foul play yet 3. Girl's FInsta (fake Instagram) account and posts from a Facebook Sugar Baby/Daddy Private Group are released. They reveal she is a proud sugar baby (goes on dates with older dudes, trades sex for cash/Venmo/purses). She brags about it, offering advice to others. 4. Barstool has a podcast named "Call Her Daddy" which is 2 InstaHoes talking about how to be a slut, how to cheat, how to be a sugar baby, how to suck cack, etc. Utah girl posted the hashtag #callherdaddy on some of her posts indicating she was a fan of the show 5. Writer for Barstool publishes a blog post reporting the facts of the story (girl missing, sorority sisters think she is alive, girl likes to trade sex for money with strangers she meets online) 6. Deadspin, another sports/culture blog that competes with Barstool and hates their guts, publishes a blog post about the Barstool article and calling it "horrifying" and the writer should be fired. (Deadspin has a long and documented history of hating this writer and trying to get him fired). Deadspin article "goes viral". 7. For whatever reason, the leader of Barstool caves like a and fires one of his top writers. Forces the writer to put out an apology agreeing he deserves to be fired. My guess is Bastool leader is either connected/funded by someone close to the dead hooker's family, or Deadspin finally has some blackmail. Or he didn't want any blowback (or liability?) related to his cash cow podcast about girls being whores (which ironically is what led the Utah girl to her death) I don't follow Barstool or Deadspin, just know that one appeals to the CNN/HuffPo/Trannies are real crowd and the other appeals to frat guys. So I don't have a dog in the fight. It is an odd firing.

naomi 356 Posted July 3, 2019 On 7/1/2019 at 1:07 PM, nobody said: So he said she was a proud sugar baby and that was a fireable offense? Eh. I'll wait for more information. Maybe it was the observation of her Instagram following being "pretty weak" and the "thoughts and prayers" in his piece. The twitter link takes a few swipes to get the gist of his piece. It was cavalier and belittling but if that is Barstool's schtick, maybe rival Deadspin made the astute call to pounce on it in light of the developing situation, hoping Barstool would get more negative attention than they bargained for. My $.02, this is all gutter crap. Barstool's mentality, Deadspin's opportunism, the victim's choices. Seeing some of her Insta hastags...she was thinking in really stupid terms. What a price to pay.
