You shouldn’t have to get a vaccine, but you do know that just because you’re not sick now, doesn’t mean you’ll never be sick, right?

Yeah, what's your point? Everybody gets sick sometimes.

If I catch the Wuhan Flu, I'll wear a mask. Until then, nope.

That was more in reference to the vaccine.  If you want to reduce your risk of getting "the Wuhan Flu," the vaccine might not be a bad idea.  But sounds like you don't, that is your prerogative

Some folks don't want to buy the PS5 yet because they want all the bugs to be worked out first. Others, may feel the same way about the putting something into their body that will definitely have an effect on them in one manner or another. Plus, the chinese flu is not that bad against healthy people. Let nature take it's course in this case. It's not polio.

I agree.  I do think “most of the bugs should be worked out” by the time most young and healthy people would be able to get it though

They can release patches to fix the PS5, just like a new iphone. Can they do that with a vaccine? 🤡

young and healthy people don't transmit the disease

Lol yes they do, especially if your definition of young includes people over 12 or so.

Interesting article summarizing some of that info, including a new study of over half of Iceland’s population saying that while kids 15 and under still get and spread it, they are about half as likely as those over 15 to do so - https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/2020/12/we-now-know-how-much-children-spread-coronavirus/

Also includes a comment that I’ve seen elsewhere saying that many outbreaks are driven by those in their 20’s and 30’s

Think I posted this earlier - but several nursing home deaths in a Wisconsin college town were linked to students returning to campus for the semester - https://www.mcknights.com/news/college-town-coronavirus-outbreak-linked-to-rise-in-nursing-home-cases-and-deaths/

So you read the part where most colleges did testing of students when they came back to school but the schools around this area did not do that?

Yes.   My main point for bringing it up here was drobeski's ridiculous claim that young people aren't transmitting covid

He said young and healthy people.  If you have Covid you are by definition not healthy.  HTH.

Healthy..

Now the effectiveness of masks...

More masking,  more cases. Unless you have a link with measured proven data that cases dropped because of mask usage?

OK I thought he meant healthy as in no underlying conditions.   Since the comment he said that to was about people getting the vaccine...

However, I would bet some here would consider a young presymptomatic covid positive person or even someone who only lost their sense of taste or smell as "healthy" - hence the mask discussion - if not then you all shouldn't have a problem with wearing masks since you never know if you're "healthy" (unless maybe you've had a recent negative test)

What is the accuracy rate of the tests. Cycle rate of positive tests  ? These things should matter.

Are you in the business?

The tests are pretty accurate in telling whether you have the virus.   However in the cases of some of the "false positives" you may no longer have enough to be contagious

Huh?  Just pointing out the environmental impact of masks.

Sorry it censored out "aholes."   That is implying they are littered.   That's not the mask's fault

But but they slowed no spread of this terrible disease,  so terrible you have to have a test to know you have it. A test they had to amplify the results of beyond scientific norms to prove you have this deadly disease.

Whats wrong with you.

Same thing as plastic straws.  Just wondering where the outrage is regarding environmental impact. :dunno:

For a disease so infectious they need to shove the test into your brain.

Most studies show that mask mandated areas saw better results than non mask mandated areas.  At worst (best for you), some results have not been significantly significant.   Haven't seen any studies except 1 based on 4 people that was retracted that actually claims masks made it worse.    Looking at case numbers especially where masks were mandated early on and comparing to when it hadn't even spread yet and/or it was impossible to get tests is crazy.   No one is saying masks will stop the spread, but they can't hurt.

No I didn't.   It's not the "environmental impact of masks."   It's the environmental impact of people that litter.  I'm sure there are a lot more Lysol wipes that are going to end up in the ocean too

If they don't help contain the virus, but they do significant harm to the environment, I'd say that's "hurting."   Heck, even if they do help contain the virus, which is debatable, they still do "hurt."

But yes, "they can't hurt," was specifically in regards to containing the virus, which most studies show they do help.

Well, accept the medical doctors who say bacterial pneumonia cases are on the rise from mask-wearing.

There's a reason why the experts laughed when the media kept pushing for the general public to wear masks. They don't help and do make things worse.

The very best thing to do is:

1. Socially distance

2. Don't touch your face

3. Wash your hands and or use hand sanitizer.

4. Do nothing

New England Journal of Medicine, April 2020:

“We know that wearing a mask outside health care facilities offers little, if any, protection from infection. ”
“It is also clear that masks serve symbolic roles. Masks are not only tools, they are also talismans that may help increase health care workers’ perceived sense of safety, well-being, and trust in their hospitals. Although such reactions may not be strictly logical, we are all subject to fear and anxiety, especially during times of crisis.”

Took longer than I thought for this to rear it's ugly head. How long until AOCtard blames Trump when it is the D party that pimped the stupid mask BS.

The main benefit of masks is to prevent spread from the wearer.   Early on (like April when your quote is from) we didn’t know the extent of presymptomatic and to a lesser extent asymptomatic spread.   So yes, they weren’t wrong to say that the general public that is not currently infected wearing masks may not do much.  Unfortunately, some of the general public is infected but doesn’t know it yet, and that’s why it’s beneficial to wear masks.

You pretend like we didn't have asymptomatic spread with other viruses. All of this has been known and science has said for decades that the general public should not wear masks.

And no mask don't prevent the wearer from spreading a virus. Even in surgical settings with trained professionals masks do not stop the spread of a virus. You keep parroting what the media tells you but decades of studies say otherwise.

It's why Fauci LAUGHED at people like you.

Trumpeteers love this smoking gun of Fauci saying in March that we don’t need masks. It was more about leaving them for the people who needed it like medical pros etc. Once we learned more about the virus, he and the others then said ok we actually should wear masks. You learn and adapt, but Trumpers think it’s all part of some huge conspiracy.
