Yep, and Chief Best just announced her retirement.

Ironic that SCC voted to cut her salary to below what the white former chief was making.  BLM, baby!

Edit: oops, didn't realize that CNN link was about her leaving.  Thought link was just about the SCC vote. CNN didn't mention anything about them cutting her salary, though.

There was a rumor that the Hiants were trying to trade for Russell Wilson a few years ago. Supposedly RW was down with it but the Giants said no. Bet he regrets it now.

is that a solution?  Honestly?  Jersey is too

I have more faith in the NY metro area getting back to normal than Seattle. Or close to normal. Normal is probably in the past.

For that matter most athletes out here live on the east side of Lake Washington (Bellevue, Kirkland).  I doubt many actually live in Seattle proper.   Just like other people with a choice they only work in downtown Seattle.

Exactly.  HT, do you have faith in New Yorkers to elect a better Mayor or will they fall for the BS the next DeBlasio will no doubt throw at them during the campaign?

Well, DiBlasio won his primary the first time with only 30 something pct of the vote. Then he got re-elected because of the anti Trump wave. It’s really only Brooklyn, home of the urban pioneers, that have supported him. The last time NY fell into ruin we got Guilliani. NY was a majority minority city then too. There is just too much money in the city. Real estate is king around here, not Wall Street or tourism. We shall see. But the crime rate affects everyone now, it’s touching the elites as well. I know where the power really lays , and I believe power tends to get its way. We’ll see.  But I sat there when Dinkins was running for re-election and watched black people screaming at him about crime. They don’t like it either. And they had a taste of it being very low.

I'm willing to bet that a lot of athletes live outside of the major city they play in.  There are a lot of Philadelphia athletes who live in South Jersey (Vorhees, Cherry Hill, Haddonfield), and Philly suburbs.

A fundamental flaw of liberalism is acting on emotion without thinking things thru.  Somehow "defund the police" became a thing and shallow-minded liberals said "yeah, let's do that, what can go wrong?!"  Ignoring the fact that these systems likely evolved into what they are for a reason.  That is not to say there isn't room for improvement, but when the edict from the mayor is to "cut $20M from the police budget," you've stopped looking for objective ways to improve the police department, and you've jumped head first into virtue signaling wokeness.

Exactly. Never mind they don’t think about any downside , they don’t even mention it. It just doesn’t exist. If they acknowledge any downside, their idea is now subject to analysis. Gotta shut that down.

There's also the cause/effect issue.

The whole "defund the police" thing is based on the premise that high police budgets cause crime because of lack of investment in other areas. Suburban and rural areas don't have crime issues because they don't spend as much money on their police.

When the reality is that increased police budgets come as a RESPONSE to high crime. Crime rates have been halved in the past 40 years as a result of increased police, with upticks in some types of crime coming in the past few years coinciding with the rise of anti-police sentiment among politicians. Suburban and rural areas don't spend as much money on their police BECAUSE there's not much crime in the area.

Throwing money at something else will make it worse. Go ahead and open new civic center, library. Criminals and homeless will take that over as well. As for social workers, they only work because they feel they have a level of safety. Take that away and they will quit. All these police budgets will be restored when their social experiment fails. Have to make examples out of criminals. There is no other way. Put it into new non lethal weapons that stop them cold. Itch spray, super glue gun that glues their clothes together.

That type of thinking would require... well, thinking. Those people are not thinking. The whole "defund the police" thing makes no sense. They have no concept of the complex reasons that the police exist and the reasons that they have to wear so many hats. However, that is how things are done today - no thought, massive over-reaction due to a lack of thinking and any attention span.

Weird, I wonder what the difference is? Lots of rural areas are dirt poor so it can't be economics. I guess we'll never know.

@Patriotsfatboy1 any updates from your law enforcement buddy out here?

He is still working and counting down until retirement. He is with King County, so this doesn't really affect his pay directly. I know that he said that he is putting in for vacation for the days right after the election.

  • Thanks 1

Let him know that I'm at least in Snohomish County, so I have a bit more of a buffer.

I hope so. I know first hand what his kind can do to a nice city and yes, Detroit was nice until 1974 with Coleman Young.

What Coleman Young did to Detroit is what's in store for all these cities with local government leaders that embrace rioters, defund police, and don't prosecute criminals.
