I think one of the biggest disagreements I see are about the books and what should be allowed in school.  IMO there are several variables:  is it inappropriate or not?   Why is it inappropriate, and are we applying the same to all books?  How much should we control what other parents think is OK for their kid? (for example I think there is a big different between a book being assigned in a classroom or one that is read allowed to kids vs. one that happens to be on a shelf in the library).    

But again, this is the internet so there is no need for any of that type of discussion.   If you don't agree with somebody on every single point, that means you support pedos and groomers.

People on the right (primarily a bunch of Christian fundamentalist organizations) released a hitlist of books for people to attack schools over. So you saw a ton of schools across the country having meetings on these books because "They are in the library." At the district where I work the one book was listed as an online copy that was accessible through a database that the kid would have to go to the library, and search for the book by author or name, and then download the PDF version of the novel to their computer. It just so happens that the kid of one of the parents who runs with one of those organizations found the book. 

There were 5 or 6 books that crept up on all the lists. I wish I could remember the names of them. But none of them were in curriculum. They were not spotlighted in the library. They were just sitting on the shelves. Still- people complained, because they were conditioned to complain.

Also, on the topic of banning books with sex content. Hell Great Gatsby (the great American novel) has a scene that in a roundabout way implies Nick Carraway fooks the photographer guy as he is standing there in his underwear with him in bed.

I've come and gone, sometimes months, maybe a year at a time.  The Geek Club was the first "Social Media" for me, it's a bunch of random misfits that talk shiot together.  I've enjoyed and still do the back and forth on things like Abortion, Gun Control, Healthcare, on and on.  I especially enjoy the drafts and golf leagues, all sorts of Geek Club nonsense.  I've learned some things and my stances on some issues have ebbed and flowed over the years.

I have seen several of the lists of these offensive books.  Maybe you should take an honest look at them too.  When your list of objectional books that have to do with sexual situations are largely:  a book with an questionable sexual situation .... between lesbians.   a book with a questionable sexual situation .....  with an interracial couple.    I think you are bright enough to get the picture.    That was what I was talking about with the ridiculous application of these objections.    People look right past examples that are probably in the same library and a parents probably don't think twice if their kid is reading and readily available - I usually give the example of Stephen King and IT.   Nope, not upset about that, it's the random LGBTQ book that is probably not even at their kid's library that they saw a passage from on SM!

Funniest note I've ever seen on a book that someone tried to ban was in Canada. They tried to get Hop on Pop pulled from a community library because the book encouraged violence against fathers and the library should be forced to pay any and all medical costs incurred by the dads getting hurt.
